Evan McMullin 2022 vs Evan McMullin 2016. McMullin has taken opposing stances now compared to a few years ago, specifically in the realms of abortion, gun control, and the Affordable Care Act, sometimes called ObamaCare. Now is it OK for people to change their minds? Definitely! But I'm also a fan of political candidates who are transparent with their positions and principles, and when they might change their opinions on a given subject they could point to an overriding principle they are striving for, or new information that has come forward to change their minds. So far, McMullin has shown a whole lot of change in opinions, but has yet to show his foundational principles common to both his past and present political campaigns. He could surprise me with just such information when debate season rolls around, but I’m not holding my breath. What's the first thing that comes to mind when I say "mental health week"? For Utah State University, the apparent answer is "intersectionality", followed closely by "discrimination, oppression, marginalization", and identity politics. They even go so far as pole dancing for mental health week. The jokes write themselves, and you can't tell parody apart from reality. The good news is apparently everyone agrees that mental illness is connected to activism, intersectionality, and universities. The bad news is a significant portion of the local university's mental health week was actually just ideological indoctrination sessions. Projecting racism everywhere is what Systemic Racism and Critical Race Theory (CRT) does best. Racism is always a tragedy, but not all tragedies are racist. Unfortunately Systemic Racism seems to assume that every tragedy or discrepancy is due to racism, and that includes the video of George Floyd and any sort of different outcomes for different races. This bugs me, so I decided to make this video specifically pointing out that there is no evidence that Floyd's death occurred was because of his race. And assigning racism to a tragedy because of the color of people’s skin is racist and wrong. A video on hipsters, millennials, and a girl with a love for goats. The idea is that I think hipsters have faded from public perception and are now lumped into the millennial tent, which I can understand, but I think is a little silly. I also think hipsters hate mainstream, but they went mainstream, so that’s a little ironic. Ultimately, I feel like hipsters try to be unique, but in flaunting their unique hobbies, they end up as part of a stereotype, rather than a unique individual. And the people who are truly interesting and unique don’t need to flaunt it, because they are happy with who they are and what they like. The second episode of Divisive Definitions: Political Vocabulary Defined. This episode covers the terms ‘your truth’, ‘believe all women’, ‘Latinx’, and ‘hate speech’. I talk about your truth’s meaning, and how your truth isn’t the truth. I discuss the #metoo backlash related to the term ‘believe all women’ – women are people, and I don’t inherently trust people. I do a short section on Latinx explained, and how it Latinx doesn’t mean anything. I finish with a short dive into the hate speech vs free speech debate, and who decides on hate speech.
