A man was saved by a police constable at Dahisar railway station in Mumbai, India, from coming under a local train on Friday (Jan 1, 2021). The man was seen getting on the railway track to pick up his shoe which had fallen while he was trying to cross the platform via the track.
The man kept standing on the railway track to wear his shoe even as a local train was approaching.

The man was trying to cross the tracks after the gates were closed at a level-crossing to let a train pass.
He saw that the train was too close and backed off leaving his motorcycle behind. The incident happened on Jan 24 (Sunday) and reportedly at Annapurnamma Peta station in Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh. Officials are yet to confirm the exact location of the incident.

Bridge collapses under weight of moving truck near Indo-China border
A bailey bridge nearly 50 km from the Sino-India border, collapsed when a truck carrying a JCB machine was crossing it, an official said.
The truck driver and the JCB machine operator were injured as the 40-ft-long bridge, built in 2009 in Indian state of Uttarkhand, crashed on June 22 under the combined weight of the truck and the JCB machine, Munsyari Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) AK Shukla said.
The weight-bearing capacity of the bridge was 18 tonne while the combined weight of the JCB machine and the truck was 26 tonne, he said.
The SDM said the truck driver and the JCB machine operator had been admitted to a hospital in Munsyari.
Around 15 border villages of Johar Valley have been cut off. Legal action would be taken against the truck driver, the official said.
Construction of another bridge would take at least 15 days, the SDM said.

A pair of robbers in Pakistan apparently had a change of heart after their victim broke down and wept.
A CCTV footage of the incident from Karachi shows the two robbers pulling up next to an employee of a popular food delivery platform in Pakistan.
One of them gets off the bike and tries to wrest valuables from the victim, the other is seen keeping a watch during the mugging attempt.
However, the delivery man broke down heartbroken at the loss of his hard-earned money.

In freak accident, woman dies after running into bank's glass door in India
In a freak accident, a woman died after crashing into the glass door of a bank where she had gone to.
The incident took place on June 15 in Ernakulam district in Kerala, India.
A 46-year-old Beena Jiju Paul had gone to Bank of Baroda's branch in Perumbavoor town.
She realised that she had left the key of her scooter in the vehicle and ran out to fetch it. She did not realise the door was closed and collided with it.
After the collision, the glass door shattered and a piece pierced her stomach, leading to her death.
CCTV visuals of the accident show Beena falling down after the collision and managing to get up. Seconds later, blood could be seen dripping to the floor from the wound she had sustained.
She fainted and was rushed to a hospital where she passed away.
Beena ran an electrical shop along with her husband Noby. Apart from Noby, Beena is survived by three children.

Dramatic video of a three-story building collapsin in India
A triple-storey building in West Midnapore district in India collapsed on June 13 allegedly due to the cleaning work that was being carried out in a nearby canal. The incident happened in Nischintapur area of Daspur block in the district.
The building was owned by a local businessman, Nimai Samanta. It had a store for marble and household goods on the ground floor.
For the past few weeks, cleaning and dredging operation of the nearby Gomrai Canal was on. Locals say the work was being carried out under MGNREGA and employed mostly unskilled-workers. They say since the building was located close to the canal (in violation of local norms), its foundation was damaged when mud was taken out of the canal.
Early morning, residents of the building felt uneasy and vacated the house. However, around 8am, the building started shaking and collapsed within seconds.
No one was injured in the incident but people could not recover their belongings in time.

Stunning moment snake rescuer gives King Cobra a cold bath on hot day
Snake rescuer Mohammad Ali was called to rescue a king cobra in Wadakkanchery town in Kerala, India, on May 22.
He caught the world’s deadliest snake easily but noticed that it was dehydrated. He gave it a drink and went on to pour a few buckets of cold water on it.
Ali said: “Its scales had expanded due to heat, so I decided to pour water on it. I seems ro enjoy it.”
The cobra, which was agitated and tried to bite him a few times, enjoyed the bath and calmed down. Local officials took the snake away and released it in a nearby forest later.
Ali’s father Basheer was also a well-known snake catcher.

Tactful rescuer gently catches King Cobra in Indian home
A family spotted a deadly 10-feet-long king cobra inside their home in Ganjam in Odisha, India, on May 13.
In panic, they called a local amateur snake catcher Jagabandhu Padhy, who is over 60 and has immense experience in rescuing snakes.
Jagabandhu came with an assistant and caught the snake tactfully. He gently held the agitated cobra by its tail and persuaded it to enter a gunny sack on its own.

A team of five forest watchers witnessed an amazing feat on May 19 in Silent Valley National Park in South India.
They had returned to their shelter at Kannampally camp around 6 PM. A wild elephant came close to them to pluck jackfruits. It lifted its body and stood on its hind legs to pluck jackfruits with its trunk from a height of 25 feet.
Bijoo Baby, who managed to film it, said he had never seen anything like that during his 12 years as a forest watcher. “It was effortless,” he added.
Elephants are known for their love of jackfruits and often raid villages looking for them.

Terrifying tiger caught after four months in India
A tiger that had created havoc by raiding human territories and killing cattle heads was captured by Indian Forest Department on May 19.
The massive adult tiger had been terrorising several villages in Kodagu district in South India. It had allegedly killed as many as 75 cattle and triggered panic in the region.
Following many complaints, Forest Department officials led by Dr. Sanath Krishna Muliya captured the tiger in a late night operation. The animal will be released in deep forest away from human habitat, said forest officials.

Drowning leopard pulled out from 45 feet deep well in incredible rescue
An adult male leopard found itself on the verge of drowning in a 45-feet-deep well in Otur village located near Junnar in India on May 20.
Officials from Maharashtra Forest Department and Wildlife SOS rushed to the spot and saved the big cat’s life!
The leopard’s panic-stricken roars filled the air, drawing out the occupants of Khodad village
located in Otur, to the scene. Struggling to stay afloat by paddling for hours had drained the seemingly powerful leopard, and it was at the fatal risk of drowning in waist deep water.
Rescuers lowered a makeshift platform for the leopard to climb onto for temporary support. They then lowered a trap cage into the well. After a few attempts, the leopard successfully climbed into the trap cage and was rescued from a near death situation.

Stunning spectacle flags off India’s colourful spring festival Holi
A spectacular celebration at Mathura, popularly believed to be the birthplace of Hindu god Lord Krishna, flagged off India’s colourful festival Holi.
Mathura and its twin city Vrindavan, traditionally host the first popular celebration of Holi.
A large number of devotees gathered at the campus of the majestic Shri Krishna Janmasthan Temple on February 26 to celebrate the festival with colours, songs and dance. A few came dressed as popular Hindu gods and were showered with flowers on the stage.
Many women could be seen mockingly striking men with sticks in a light-hearted ritual of ‘lath-mari holi’ or beating-with-sticks-holi.
‘Lath-mari holi’ is celebrated at two nearby towns, Barsana and Nandgaon, two days prior to the event at Mathura.
The women of Barsana beat the men of Nandgaon with sticks in a mock re-enactment of a legend in which Krishna was beaten by his lover Radha’s friends after he teased them.
Holi, a spring festival, which is played with colours and celebrates love, unfolds over the next few days in large parts of North India.
