The Benefits of Loquat Leaf
LOQUAT LEAF HEALTH BENEFITS
Loquat leaves have been well studied over the years and research shows that many of its health benefits are related to its powerful antioxidant capacity. By now, most people are aware of the importance of getting as many natural antioxidants into our system as possible to prevent serious illness. One of the most significant findings involving loquat leaves is its ability to help the body to fight diabetes. It has anti-diabetic potential because the leaves produce chemicals called triterpenes including an acid called tormentic acid.
Research shows that tormentic acid can increase the body’s production of insulin which may help combat the symptoms of diabetes. In addition, the Chinese Government approved the use of loquat leaves to support blood-sugar levels because they help produce polysaccharides which are known to stimulate the production of insulin in the pancreas.
FOR LIVER SUPPORT
Your liver is the body’s powerhouse when it comes to eliminating harmful toxins from the body. Sometimes your liver gets overwhelmed and needs help to perform its important functions. Loquat leaves can help because they contain an antioxidant compound called Amygdalin which can support proper liver function.
In addition, research shows that loquat leaves are a rich source of plant sterols linoleic acids which help the liver perform properly.
FOR RESPIRATORY HEALTH AND ALLERGIES
One of the traditional uses of loquat leaves is a natural remedy for certain respiratory issues such as congestion, coughing, allergic reactions and lung irritation. It is sometimes used to alleviate symptoms of conditions such as bronchitis, asthma, and other respiratory issues.
FOR ECZEMA AND OTHER SKIN COMPLAINTS
Loquat leaves can be applied topically in cream form as a remedy for redness and irritation. When applied topically, loquat leaf can combat allergic reactions where it soothes inflamed skin and improves overall skin health.
FOR BRAIN HEALTH
Experts believe that oxidative stress resulting from free radicals is one of the main reasons of cognitive decline. Because of its powerful antioxidant effects, loquat leaves may prove beneficial in maintaining brain health.
FOR COLDS
Scientific evidence shows that loquat leaves have antiviral properties because of antigens produced by the acids contained in the leaves.
BONE STRENGTH
Our bone density becomes lighter and weaker as we age. This more common in women post menopause. Recent research shows that loquat leaf may help combat bone loss from estrogen depletion.

Mushroom Coffee vs Regular Coffee - Which is Better?
In the world over 2 and a quarter billion cups of coffee are consumed daily with 87% of Americans considering themselves either somewhat or fully coffee obsessed. So, it’s no surprise that coffee is a big part of many people’s lives. Recently, there has been a surge in popularity in mushroom coffee which is seen to be healthy. This video will investigate the benefits of both to see which one is more beneficial. Coffee is known for the amount of caffeine it has. The average cup of coffee contains about 95mg of caffeine, but it could go as high as 300mg. It’s a popular belief that caffeine gives us energy, but that is not altogether true. Caffeine simply blocks certain receptors in our brains that tell us when it’s time to sleep. This could be helpful, especially if we need to wake up early to go to work or to stay up and study for that important test. The downside is that too much caffeine can cause you to feel more anxious or jittery. Mushroom coffee provides about half the amount of caffeine at about 45mg. While having less caffeine than regular coffee, mushroom coffee provides extra energy without the added caffeine. The ingredients in some mushroom coffee brands actually enhance metabolism by increasing the metabolic threshold by increasing oxygen levels in the blood. This in turn provides us with more energy similar to exercise but without the fatigue that comes with it. Regular coffee contains a substance called acrylamide, which is a byproduct of the roasting process and is known to cause cancer. Commercial coffees are also one of the most heavily chemically treated foods in the world. According to the National institute of Health, the ingredients in some mushroom coffee brands are known to complement chemotherapy and radiation therapy by countering the side-effects of cancer, such as nausea, bone marrow suppression, anemia, and lowered resistance. It was also found that the polysaccharides in reishi mushrooms may help cancer-fighting immune cells, called lymphocytes, stay active. According to the NIH, around two-thirds of Americans have gut issues. There could be numerous reasons for this. A simple reason could be that that people are not getting enough fiber in their diets. Another reason is that people don’t have enough good gut bacteria. Regular coffee doesn’t help with either of these problems. When the coffee is brewed, the coffee beans are filtered out and with it, the beneficial fiber that contributes to healthy gut flora is also filtered out. Also, coffee is heavily treated with chemicals which can also kill the healthy bacteria in your gut. With mushroom coffee, the fiber isn’t filtered out and it supports the growth of healthy bacteria and contributes to healthy gut flora. Also, most mushroom coffee is organic, so it isn’t heavily treated with chemicals. While regular coffee can contain certain compounds that can help strengthen your immune system, you would need to drink around 3 to 5 cups a day to really reap any of those benefits. The downside to drinking that much coffee is that you can take in too much caffeine which could lead to other problems. Mushroom coffee tends to be extremely rich in antioxidants which support a healthy immune system. While drinking a single cup of coffee usually won't affect blood sugar, studies showed that drinking at least 2 cups of coffee daily increased blood sugar by 8%. This is due to the higher levels of caffeine. Mushroom coffee on the other hand seems to provide additional benefits over regular coffee. Reishi mushrooms were shown to have hypoglycemic effects which in turn can lower blood sugar. Cordyceps, which is another common ingredient in mushroom coffee seem to have a beneficial effect on insulin sensitivity which helps regulate blood sugar levels. Chaga, which is another common ingredient in mushroom coffee has anti-inflammatory properties. This is important since chronic inflammation is linked to diabetes. High blood pressure is common in the United Stated which an estimated 122 million people suffer from it and more than a billion worldwide. Blood pressure is called the “silent killer” for a reason. Heart-related deaths are the leading cause of death in the United States. High blood pressure is responsible for 12.8% of all reported deaths. Drinking 2 or more cups of regular coffee a day was shown to double the risk of death from cardiovascular disease. Caffeine can cause a short but dramatic increase in blood pressure. It was reported that reishi mushrooms help protect the heart and reduce the risk of heart disease by improving cholesterol and blood pressure levels. Cordycepss has a positive effect on the treatment of arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeat, by possibly regulating certain pathways in the cells of the heart. Inflammation is at the root of every chronic disease and illness that we suffer from. Inflammation is our body’s natural defense against certain stress whether internal or external. Inflammation over a long period of time can lead to other serious health problems. I’ve talked a lot about the downsides to drinking regular coffee. If the coffee is 100% organic, it may also help to lower inflammation to the antioxidants in it. Mushroom coffee also has antioxidants. The antioxidants in mushroom coffee are much higher and do a better job at fighting off free radicals as well as aiding antioxidant enzymes in the body to break down harmful molecules. Due to caffeine levels in coffee, it may increase alertness, energy, and concentration. The negative effects are anxiety, restlessness, and insomnia. Lions Mane, which is a main ingredient in mushroom coffee has been shown to improve mental clarity, focus, and memory retention. Lions Mane contains compounds that stimulate the growth of brain cells. Turkey Tail which is another ingredient in some brands of mushroom coffee have immunomodulatory and antioxidant properties which have been shown to be neuroprotective, according to the Alzheimer’s drug discovery foundation. Research shows that the more caffeine a person drinks, the more calcium is excreted from the body. Since calcium is the main mineral component in bone, this could create a calcium imbalance and stop bone formation. According to the NIH, Mushroom Extracts Decrease Bone Resorption and Improve Bone Formation which is important in preventing osteoporosis. Accordingg to the NIH coffee consumption reduces fat accumulation and collagen deposition in the liver. If the coffee is 100% organic. If the coffee isn’t organic, the impact on the liver could be negative. The main function of the liver is to regulate chemical levels in the blood and excrete a product called bile. This helps carry waste from the liver. Because the main functions of the liver are filtration and detoxification, it isn’t hard to see that regular coffee; being one of the most chemically treated foods in the world could put strain on your liver. Mushroom coffee on the other hand is usually organic. Reishi mushrooms, which are common in mushroom coffee, is rich in adaptogens and help prevent liver disease and improve liver function by helping wastes and toxins to be flushed from the body more efficiently. As we all know, coffee is high in caffeine. Caffeine affects collagen synthesis and production. This could lead to dehydration and loss of skin elasticity which leads to wrinkles. Mushroom coffee is jam-packed with antioxidants which decrease oxidative stress in your body. This in turn can increase both protein and collagen synthesis which can help your skin look younger. Also, the positive effects that mushroom coffee has on your nervous system, it can help keep you sharp and stave off cognitive decline. Proteins are made up of chemical building blocks called amino acids. Amino acids are used in the body to build and repair muscles and bones as well as make hormones and enzymes. Protein is one of the most important things in our diet. Regular coffee doesn’t contain protein. Mushroom coffee on the other hand does contain the necessary amino acids to make a complete protein. We all know that drinking coffee close to bedtime is a bad idea. It’s no secret. Coffee contains a generous amount of caffeine that can keep us awake. Most mushroom coffee contains reishi that helps promote relaxation and helps to balance the body's stress response. This in turn helps to improve sleep quality. Basedd on 14 different metrics, mushroom coffee is clearly superior to regular coffee in every area. Mushroom coffee seems to accomplish what we want normal coffee to do but falls short. The downside to mushroom coffee over regular coffee is mostly the price. Mushroom coffee is on average 2 to 3 times more expensive. But in the long run, it may be worth it to you. What makes mushroom coffee so beneficial is that it contains ingredients all with different health benefits. Chaga: Helps fight Cancer, Boosts Immune System, Reduces inflammation, Helps with blood sugar, Helps lower cholesterol. Reishi: Boosts Immune System, Helps fight cancer, Boosts Energy, Combats Depression, Contributes to heart health, and Helps control blood sugar. Irish Sea Moss - The Thyroid Miracle Plant
The benefits of irish sea moss were well known to the natives of Ireland long before it took on the status of "Superfood". Perhaps one of the most important and undervalued benefits of this sea moss is its ability to help balance thyroid hormones. Irish Moss contains the vital thyroid hormone precursor DI-Iodothyronine (DIT), and the thyroid hormones Thyroxin (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3). If the thyroid doesn’t produce these hormones as it should, this can have a detrimental effect on metabolism and many other bodily systems. These have been found to be the main organically bound iodine compounds in brown sea moss (Irish Moss). Irish Moss is also extremely high in the trace element iodine – the thyroid gland contains the highest concentration of iodine than any other organ in the body. You cannot make thyroid hormones without sufficient levels of iodine. It was found that over 95% of patients with thyroid disorders were iodine deficient. While it is best to work with a doctor who is knowledgeable about iodine therapy if a thyroid disorder is present, keeping your iodine levels up will go a long way to ensure a healthy thyroid remains that way.
Being a potent source of potassium chloride, this sea moss dissolves phlegm and soothes inflammation of the mucus membranes to prevent congestion which helps to clear out the lungs of any phlegm that builds up with a common cold. Because of these expectorant qualities, Irish moss may help to prevent a common cold from turning into pneumonia and can treat other respiratory problems such as bronchitis. Irish Moss also has powerful antiviral properties, helping to prevent or treat several conditions such as flu, sore throats, coughs and more. The human body is made up of 102 minerals and Irish Moss contains a total of 92 of them. It also provides a wealth of other important nutrients including; protein, beta-carotene, B vitamins, pectin, vitamin C and Sulphur. One of the most important of these nutrients is a Sulphur-containing amino acid called taurine, which is more abundant in Irish sea moss than any other seaweed – a nutrient that is commonly lacking in vegetarian and vegan diets.
It is an excellent immune boosting food that can be important in the recovery from debilitating illness. Its high vitamin and mineral content make it the perfect food to replenish and revitalize the body after a long battle with disease. The high fiber content in Irish Moss gives a mild laxative effect while soothing inflamed tissues at the same time within the intestinal tract, which potentially provides relief from a host of intestinal disorders. Its properties promote healthy digestion – soothing the membranes of the digestive tract. The gelatin like content helps to ease gastritis, upset stomach, nausea, heartburn and indigestion. Irish Moss is thought to help reduce the appetite due to its ability to absorb moisture, increasing its volume and filling the intestinal tract with a bulking type of material, which in turn increases the feeling of fullness.
Its gentle laxative effect can promote the elimination process of waste through the gastrointestinal tract. The iodine content can boost metabolism which in turn will increase energy and can help to accelerate weight loss. Irish sea moss is available in many different forms whether it’s capsule, tincture, gel, or dried. If you like to know where to get a pure form of Irish sea moss, we listed our website in the comment’s section.

The Health Benefits of Horehound
For centuries, people all around world have used horehound to naturally treat respiratory conditions. Top makers of herbal cough drops, and cough syrup include horehound, which is no surprise since it is said to be one of the oldest known cough remedies! This is just one of many impressive horehound benefits. Horehound is a perennial plant. This means once it is planted it will return year after year. The horehound plant (M. vulgare) is native to Europe, northern Africa, and southwestern and central Asia. It has small white flowers. The flowers as well as all the plant’s parts are used for medicinally. Horehound is an ingredient often found in herbal lozenges and syrups used for the natural treatment of coughs. There’s a good reason why this herb is employed in cough remedies. Horehound can help people get rid of that nasty mucus that is clogging up their airways. Research has also shown that horehound has both antispasmodic and analgesic properties, which are more commonly known as pain-relieving effects. These are two good reasons as to what makes horehound a great natural cough remedy. Along with foods like horseradish, horehound is believed to be one of the Bible’s bitter herbs. Its bitter flavor makes it an excellent choice for improving digestion since plants that taste bitter have been shown to help in managing indigestion or upset stomach. Bitter foods like horehound are a great choice if you struggle with poor digestion. When your food is broken down in optimal fashion, you’re much less likely to suffer from digestive issues such as indigestion and gas. For some people, symptoms of motion sickness can result from the movement of travel by car, boat or plane. Motion sickness will typically go away usually when the motion stops.
But many people who commonly suffer with motion sickness are curious about natural ways to improve their queasy feelings. Horehound has been used as a traditional remedy for motion sickness. The recommended dosage is one to two milliliters as a tincture. Or use one to two teaspoons of leaves steeped as tea, taken three times per day. As an expectorant herb, horehound could be a helpful remedy when it comes to the intense congestion caused by bronchitis. When you have bronchitis, the bronchial tubes that carry air to your lungs become inflamed. This inflammation causes a cough, which can often be uncomfortable.
Horehound can be helpful since it has been found to not only act as an expectorant, but also to promote vasodilatory effects. Vasodilation is when the smooth muscle within the blood vessels relax and widen. This results in a better flow of blood filled with oxygen. Sometimes people struggle with a lack of appetite for different reasons including stress, pregnancy, hypothyroidism, metabolic problems, liver disease and more.
Bitter herbs like horehound have a long history of use as a digestive tonic as well as an appetite stimulant. Horehound’s ability to improve saliva and gastric juice output makes it helpful for increasing appetite.

There are many varieties of this herb, but the most popular are American ginseng and Asian ginseng. American and Asian ginseng vary in their concentration of active compounds and effects on the body. It is believed that American ginseng works as a relaxing agent, whereas the Asian variety has an invigorating effect. This video will focus on the various benefits of ginseng. Ginseng has beneficial antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Research shows that the compounds within ginseng could inhibit inflammation which can contribute to chronic disease. Short-term supplementation with American ginseng can reduce exercise-induced muscle damage. Ginseng could help improve brain functions like memory, behavior, and mood. Ginseng could protect the brain against damage caused by free radicals. Data involving over 6,400 adults found that regular use of ginseng for at least 5 years helped improve cognitive function later in life. Additional data showed that taking American ginseng significantly improved working memory after 3 hours. Ginseng could also help ease stress and may offer benefits for depression and anxiety. While other research found positive effects on brain function in people with Alzheimer’s disease. Some research suggests that ginseng may be a useful alternative for men with erectile dysfunction (ED). According to research, certain compounds found in ginseng may strengthen the blood vessels and tissues of the penis to help restore normal function. Additionally, studies have shown that ginseng may promote the production of nitric oxide, a compound that improves muscle relaxation in the penis and increases blood circulation. This means that ginseng could improve sexual performance in males. According to studies, ginseng contains anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, as well as anti-viral properties and may enhance the immune system. One study found that ginseng extract increased the number of immune cells and enhanced antioxidant levels in the liver. Ginseng may be helpful in reducing the risk of certain cancers. Health Benefits of Gingko Biloba - The Living Fossil
Ginkgo biloba, or maidenhair, is a tree native to China that has been grown for thousands of years for many different uses. Because it’s the only surviving member of an ancient order of plants, it’s sometimes referred to as a living fossil. While its leaves and seeds are often used in traditional medicine, modern research primarily focuses on ginkgo extract, which is made from the leaves. Ginkgo is associated with several health benefits, mostly focused on brain function and blood circulation. Ginkgo’s antioxidant content may be the reason behind many of its health claims. Ginkgo contains high levels of flavonoids and terpenoids, which are compounds known for their strong antioxidant effects. Antioxidants combat or neutralize the damaging effects of free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive particles that are produced in the body during normal metabolic functions, such as converting food to energy or detoxification. Yet free radicals also have the potential to damage healthy tissues, that contribute to accelerated aging and disease development. Inflammation is part of the body’s natural response to injury or invasion by foreign substances. In the inflammatory response, various components of the immune system are recruited to fight against the foreign invader or heal the injured area. Some chronic diseases can trigger an inflammatory response even when there is no illness or injury present. Over time, this excessive inflammation can cause permanent damage to the body’s tissues and DNA. Some specific conditions in which ginkgo extract has shown to reduce inflammation include arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), cancer, heart disease, and stroke.
Ginkgo’s apparent ability to increase blood flow to various parts of the body may be the origin of many of its claimed benefits. One older study in people with heart disease who took ginkgo revealed an immediate increase in blood flow to multiple parts of the body. This was attributed to a 12% increase in levels of circulating nitric oxide, which is responsible for dilating blood vessels. Additional research also points to ginkgo’s protective effects on heart health, brain health, and stroke prevention. There are multiple explanations for this, one may be because of the anti-inflammatory compounds present in the plant. Ginkgo has been evaluated for its ability to reduce anxiety, stress, and other symptoms associated with Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive decline which are linked to aging. Some studies show a marked reduction in the rate of cognitive decline in people with dementia using ginkgo. In one review involving 21 studies had revealed that when used along with conventional medicine, ginkgo extract may increase the functional capabilities of people with mild Alzheimer’s. Another review evaluated four studies and found a significant reduction in symptoms associated with dementia when ginkgo was used for 22–24 weeks. These positive results could be related to the role that ginkgo may play in improving blood flow to the brain. A handful of small, older studies support the claim that ginkgo may increase mental performance and perceived well-being. Results from studies state claims that link ginkgo to improved memory, focus, and attention span. Research suggests that ginkgo may reduce symptoms of anxiety. Studies have observed reductions in anxiety symptoms that may be attributed to the antioxidant content of ginkgo. Another study showed that older adults with post-stroke depression who took ginkgo biloba extract along with an antidepressant for 8 weeks experienced significant reductions in symptoms of depression compared to taking an antidepressant alone. In traditional medicine, ginkgo is a very popular treatment for headaches and migraines. It’s well known that ginkgo has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. If a headache is related to reduced blood flow or constricted blood vessels, ginkgo’s ability to dilate blood vessels may improve symptoms. Research indicates that ginkgo may improve symptoms of asthma and other respiratory diseases like COPD. This is attributed to the anti-inflammatory compounds in ginkgo, which may allow for reduced inflammation of the airways and increased lung capacity. One study involving 75 people evaluated the use of ginkgo extract along with medication therapy for managing asthma symptoms. The levels of inflammatory compounds in the saliva of those who received ginkgo were significantly lower than those who received traditional medication alone. Another study involving 100 people had evaluated the use of a mixture of herbs, including ginkgo, for treating COPD symptoms. Those who used the herbal formula reported a considerable reduction in cough and bronchitis at a 3-month follow-up. Preliminary research indicates that ginkgo may help treat both the physical and psychological symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

Ginger may help manage indigestion by speeding up the passage of food through the stomach. Functional dyspepsia is when a person has indigestion — with symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, feeling too full, belching, and nausea — for no clear reason. It often occurs with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In one study, scientists found that consuming ginger before eating a main meal significantly improved the symptoms of indigestion in people with functional dyspepsia. Ginger may help relieve dysmenorrhea, also known as menstrual pain. Research has suggested that ginger is more effective than acetaminophen/caffeine/ibuprofen (Novafen) in relieving menstrual pain. Ginger May help lower LDL cholesterol, known as bad cholesterol, which is linked to heart disease. In a 2022 review of 26 trials, researchers found that ginger consumption significantly reduced triglycerides and LDL cholesterol, while increasing HDL cholesterol which is good cholesterol. It may be hard to include such high doses of ginger in your diet, particularly if you don’t like the taste of ginger. Supplementation may help with this. Ginger may have anticancer properties due to gingerol and various other antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds. There’s evidence that these compounds may help reduce the risk of gastrointestinal cancers, such as colorectal, pancreatic, and liver cancer. Ginger may improve brain function and protect against Alzheimer’s disease. Some research suggests that the compounds in ginger — may help prevent degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. Oxidative stress and chronic inflammation may be key factors of Alzheimer’s disease and age-related cognitive decline. Studies suggest the antioxidants and bioactive compounds in ginger can inhibit inflammatory responses that occur in the brain. This may help prevent cognitive decline. Ginger’s antimicrobial properties could make it useful for fighting bacterial and fungal infections.
Laboratory studies have found it may be effective against:
Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), which is responsible for a range of diseases
Escherichia coli (E. coli), a cause of intestinal infections
Candida albicans (C. albicans), which causes fungal infections in the mouth, vagina, and others

The Benefits of Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus is believed to have a number of medicinal properties. This video will explain its potential health benefits as well as potential side effects. In 2016, researchers from Serbia found evidence supporting the antimicrobial effects of eucalyptus. A positive interaction between eucalyptus and existing antibiotics could lead to the development of new treatment for certain infections. This could eventually reduce the need for antibiotics. Eucalyptus is available in a wide range of preparations to relieve symptoms of cold and flu., such as lozenges and inhalants. Herbal remedies involve using the fresh leaves in a gargle to relieve a sore throat, sinusitis, and bronchitis. Also, eucalyptus oil vapor acts as a decongestant when inhaled. It is a popular home remedy for colds and bronchitis. It may act as an expectorant for loosening phlegm and easing congestion. Several cough medications include eucalyptus oil, including Vicks VapoRub. The antibacterial and antimicrobial potential of eucalyptus has been harnessed for use in some mouthwash and dental preparations. In promoting dental health, eucalyptus appears to be active in fighting bacteria that cause tooth decay and periodontitis. The use of eucalyptus extract in chewing gum may promote periodontal health, according to a study published in the Journal of Periodontology. The University of Maryland Medical (UMM) Center describes how traditional Aboriginal medicines used eucalyptus to treat fungal infections and skin wounds. Eucalyptus is an effective insect repellent and insecticide. In 1948, the United States officially registered eucalyptus oil as an insecticide and miticide, for killing mites and ticks. In 2012, researchers in India, found that eucalyptus oil was active against the larvae and pupae of the housefly. They suggested that it could be a viable option for use in eco-friendly products to control houseflies. Eucalyptus oil may stimulate an immune system response, according to findings published in BMC Immunology. Specifically, the researchers found that Eucalyptus could enhance the immune system’s phagocytic response to pathogens. Phagocytosis is a process where the immune system consumes and destroys foreign particles. Other conditions that eucalyptus may help with include:
Arthritis – potentially due to its anti-inflammatory properties
A blocked nose
Wounds and burns
Ulcers
Cold sores – perhaps due to its anti-inflammatory properties
Bladder diseases
Diabetes – eucalyptus might help lower blood sugar
Fever and Flu
Eucalyptus products can generally be used safely on the skin, as long as the oil is diluted. It should not be applied directly onto the skin until it is diluted with a carrier oil, such as olive oil. Eucalyptus can produce irritation and a burning sensation. It should not be used too close to the eyes. It is important to do an allergy test before using eucalyptus because it is highly allergenic. An allergy test can be done by adding the eucalyptus oil in the carrier oil and putting a drop on the arm. If there is no reaction in 24 hours, it is safe to use. It is not safe to take eucalyptus oil internally because it is toxic. In some individuals with asthma, eucalyptus can make their condition worse. Others find that it helps to relieve their asthma symptoms.
Side effects may include:
Diarrhea
Nausea
Vomiting
Upset Stomach
Signs of eucalyptus poisoning include dizziness, feelings of suffocation, and small pupils. It is important to note that eucalyptus may interact with other medications and can impact the liver.
Children are more sensitive to essential oils, so care should be taken when using eucalyptus with children. Use should be avoided during pregnancy.

Essiac Benefits - All You Need to Know
Essiac tea is an herbal tea that has gained widespread popularity among natural health enthusiasts in recent years. People in favor of the herbal tea, claim that it can kill cancer cells, stimulate immunity, and aid detoxification. However, others consider it questionable as a cancer therapy, claiming that the evidence noted is insufficient. This video looks at the ingredients, benefits, and potential side effects of Essiac tea. Essiac is a popular herbal blend that is often used as a tea. It is touted for its reported anticancer properties. In the 1920s, Canadian nurse Rene Caisse promoted Essiac tea as a natural cancer treatment, claiming that it was given to her by a patient who originally received it from an Ontario Ojibwa medicine man. Though the tea is still said to be a Native American natural remedy, evidence to back up this claim is noted. Essiac tea is a blend of different herbs, including:
burdock root
slippery elm
sheep sorrel
Indian rhubarb
In addition to its reported anticancer properties, Essiac tea is also believed to enhance detoxification, boost immune function, and reduce inflammation. The tea is usually sold in powder form, but capsule and tea bag varieties are also available. Herbalists recommend drinking 1 to 12 ounces (30 to 360 mL) daily for best results. Studies show that Essiac tea is rich in antioxidants and may offer anti-inflammatory properties. Its four main ingredients have all been associated with various health-promoting properties. These primary ingredients are:
Burdock root: This root contains compounds shown to promote blood circulation, improve skin texture, and stabilize blood sugar.
Slippery elm: Revered for its medicinal properties, slippery elm is rich in disease-fighting antioxidants and may aid in treating inflammatory bowel disease.
Sheep sorrel: sheep sorrel has been shown to have potent antiviral properties according to studies.
Indian rhubarb. One recent study found that Indian rhubarb is high in antioxidants and may inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
Research on the anticancer effects of Essiac reported conflicting results. For example, one test-tube study showed that essiac had antioxidant properties and prevented damage to cells and DNA, which could potentially help protect against cancer. Another study showed that Essiac blocked the growth of breast and leukemia cancer cells when administered in high concentrations, though more research may be needed. There is also some anecdotal evidence that certain types of cancer have responded well to Essiac— including one case report of a man who went into remission from prostate cancer and attributed it to essiac.

The Health Benefits of Echinacea
Echinacea, also called purple coneflower, is one of the world’s most popular herbs. Native Americans have used it for centuries to treat various ailments. Today, it’s best known as an over-the-counter herbal remedy for the common cold or flu. However, it’s also used to treat pain, inflammation, migraines, and other health issues. This video reviews the benefits, uses, side effects, and dosage of echinacea. Echinacea is the name of a group of flowering plants in the daisy family. Both the plant’s upper parts and roots are used in tablets, tinctures, extracts, and teas.
Echinacea plants contain an impressive variety of active compounds and studies have linked echinacea and their compounds to many health benefits, such as reduced inflammation, improved immunity, and lower blood sugar levels. Echinacea plants are loaded with plant compounds that function as antioxidants. Antioxidants are molecules that help defend your cells against oxidative stress, a state that has been linked to chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, and others. Research on echinacea suggests that it offers several impressive health benefits.
Echinacea is best known for its beneficial effects on the immune system.
Numerous older studies have found that this plant may help your immune system combat infections and viruses, which could help you recover faster from illness. That’s one reason why echinacea is often used to prevent or treat the common cold. In fact, one review found that echinacea could reduce the risk of developing an upper respiratory tract infection by 22%. Test-tube studies have found that echinacea plants may help lower blood sugar levels. In a test-tube study, an Echinacea extract was shown to suppress enzymes that digest carbohydrates. In theory, this means that echinacea might be able to reduce the amount of sugar entering your blood. Other animal studies suggest that the antioxidants found in echinacea could help improve blood sugar and insulin sensitivity.
Still, human-based research on the effects of echinacea on blood sugar is lacking. Anxiety is a common problem that is estimated to affect nearly 7% of adults in the United States. In recent years, echinacea plants have emerged as a potential aid for anxiety. Some older research has discovered that echinacea plants contain compounds that may reduce feelings of anxiety. These include alkamides, rosmarinic acid, and caffeic acid. One study found that taking 40 milligrams (mg) of echinacea extract twice daily for 7 days significantly reduced anxiety. Inflammation is your body’s natural way of promoting healing and defending itself. Sometimes inflammation can get out of control and last for longer than necessary and expected. This may increase your risk of chronic diseases and other health problems. Several studies have shown that echinacea can help reduce excess inflammation. In another 30-day study, adults with osteoarthritis found that taking a supplement containing ginger extract and echinacea extract significantly reduced inflammation, chronic pain, and swelling. Interestingly, these adults did not respond well to conventional non-steroidal inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) but found the supplement containing echinacea and ginger extract helpful. Research has shown that echinacea plants may help treat common skin concerns.
In one study, a supplement containing a botanical extract derived from eggplant and echinacea was effective at improving mild to moderate acne. In another 2010 study in 10 people, skin care products containing echinacea extract were found to improve skin hydration and reduce wrinkles. Similarly, a cream containing Echinacea extract was shown to improve eczema symptoms and help repair the skin’s thin, protective outer layer. However, echinacea extract appears to have a short shelf life, making it difficult to incorporate into commercial skin care products.
Cancer is a disease that involves the uncontrolled growth of cells.
Test-tube studies have shown that echinacea extracts may suppress cancer cell growth and even trigger cancer cell death. In one 2012 test-tube study, an extract of Echinacea was shown to trigger cancer cell death. In another older test-tube study, extracts from echinacea plants killed human cancer cells from the pancreas and colon by stimulating a process called apoptosis, or controlled cell death. It’s believed that this effect occurs due to echinacea’s immune-boosting properties.
There was some concern that echinacea could interact with conventional cancer treatments, such as doxorubicin, but older studies have found no interaction. Though rare, some people may also be allergic to echinacea, which can cause side effects like hives, swelling, and anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction. As echinacea appears to stimulate the immune system, people with autoimmune disorders or people taking immunosuppressive drugs should avoid it or consult a doctor first.

All You Need to Know About Elderberry
Traditionally, Indigenous people used elderberry to treat fever and rheumatism, while the ancient Egyptians used it to improve their complexions and heal burns. This video takes a closer look at: the evidence supporting its health claims. And the potential risks associated with eating it. The most common type is the European elderberry or black elder and the American Elderberry or American elder. This tree is native to Europe, though it is widely grown in many other parts of the world as well. It can grow up to 30 feet (9 meters) tall and has clusters of small white- or cream-colored flowers known as elderflowers. The berries are found in small black or blue-black bunches. The berries are quite tart and need to be cooked before eating. The flowers have a delicate aroma and can be eaten raw or cooked. Other varieties include the dwarf elder, blue elderberry, danewort, red-fruited elder, and antelope brush. Various parts of the elderberry tree have been used throughout history for medicinal and culinary purposes. However, other than the ripe berries, every other part of the plant is considered toxic. The berries can be cooked and used to make juice, jams, chutneys, pies, and elderberry wine. The flowers are often boiled with sugar to make a sweet syrup or infused into tea. There are many reported benefits of elderberries. Not only are they nutritious, but they may also help address cold and flu symptoms, support heart health, and fight inflammation and infections, among other benefits as well. Black elderberry extracts and flower infusions have been shown to help reduce the severity and length of influenza. Commercial preparations of elderberry for the treatment of colds come in various forms, including liquids, capsules, lozenges, and gummies. One 2004 study of 60 people with influenza found that those who took 15 mL of elderberry syrup four times per day showed symptom improvement in as little as 2 to 4 days. Also, a study of 312 air travelers taking capsules containing 300 mg of elderberry extract three times per day found that those who got sick experienced a shorter duration of illness and less severe symptoms. Elderberry may have positive effects on some markers of heart and blood vessel health. Studies have shown elderberry juice may reduce the level of fat in the blood and decrease cholesterol. In addition, a diet high in flavonoids like anthocyanins has been found to reduce the risk of heart disease. Elderberries may reduce levels of uric acid in the blood. Elevated uric acid is linked to increased blood pressure and negative effects on heart health. What’s more, elderberries can increase insulin secretion and improve blood sugar levels. Given that type 2 diabetes is a major risk factor for heart and vascular disease, blood sugar management is important in preventing these conditions. A study found that elderberry flowers inhibit the enzyme alpha-glucosidase, which may help lower blood sugar levels. Also, research on participants with diabetes given elderberry showed improved blood sugar control. While elderberry has some promising potential benefits, there are also some cautions associated with its consumption if you plan to harvest it yourself. The bark, unripe berries, and seeds contain small amounts of substances known as lectins, which can cause stomach problems if too much is consumed. In addition, the elderberry plant contains substances called cyanogenic glycosides, which can release cyanide in some circumstances. However, commercial preparations and cooked berries do not contain cyanide, so there are no reports of fatalities from eating elderberries. Symptoms of eating uncooked berries as well as the leaves, bark, or roots of the elderberry include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Toxic substances found in the berries can be safely removed by cooking. However, the branches, bark, or leaves should not be used in cooking or juicing.

Cinchona- Fever Reducer and Malaria Treatment
Cinchona is both antimalarial and antibacterial. Like the other alkaloids, it is antispasmodic. The bitter constituents in cinchona, including the alkaloids and quinovin, produce a reflex stimulation of the digestion as a whole, increasing stomach secretions. It is known to reduce heart rate and improve irregularity of heartbeat. The indigenous people of Peru have taken cinchona for many centuries, and it is still a widely used remedy for fevers, digestive problems, and infections. It is also used to treat other feverish conditions. As a bitter tonic, cinchona stimulates saliva, digestive secretions, and the appetite, as well as improves weak digestive function. Apart from that, Cinchona is useful as a gargle for sore, infected throats. The herb is used in herbal medicine for cramps, especially night cramps. This remedy also relieves arthritis pain. In India, cinchona is used to treat sciatica and dysentery. It has long been used by native people in the treatment of fever and malaria carried by mosquitoes. Bark is also used in the treatment of neuralgia, muscle cramps and cardiac fibrillation. Modern research has shown it to be a very effective treatment for fevers, and especially as a treatment and preventative for malaria. Bark is a bitter, astringent, tonic herb that helps lower fevers, relaxes spasms, is antimalarial due to the alkaloid quinine, and slows the heart due to the alkaloid quinidine. It is an ingredient in various proprietary cold and influenza remedies. The liquid extract is useful as a cure for drunkenness. It is also used to treat sore throats. The traditional way of preparing the medicine was to grind the dried bark into a powder, boiling in water and then either drinking it as tea or mixing it with wine or other alcohol. There are suggested dosages given in several herbalist reference books. It should be stressed that the alkaloids contained in cinchona bark are powerful drugs and thus no one should self-administer a cinchona decoction without consulting a medical doctor. Tonic water, which consists of a much lower concentration of quinine than what is recommended for malaria treatment, is considered safe. Care must be taken in the use of this herb since excess can cause a number of side effects including cinchonism, headache, rash, abdominal pain, deafness and blindness. The herb, especially in the form of the extracted alkaloid quinine, is subject to legal restrictions in some countries. Large and too constant doses must be avoided, as they produce headaches, giddiness and deafness.

Chanca Piedra "Kidney Stone" Breaker
Chanca Piedra is an herb that grows in tropical areas, like the rainforests of South America. It also commonly known as “Stone-Breaker”. The plant has thin, leaf-covered branches and can grow up to about 2 feet (61 cm) tall. It gets the name “seed-under-leaf” because its seed pods, which bloom into small green flowers, grow beneath the leaves. The entire plant — including the leaves, stems, and flowers are used to make supplements. As a supplement, Chanca Piedra is reported to help with a variety of conditions related to the digestive system, liver, and kidneys. Supposedly, it contains phytochemicals that can increase urine flow, kill harmful bacteria and viruses, and relieve inflammation. Chanca Piedra is available in teas, liquid extracts, capsules, or tablets. Chanca Piedra is best known as a potential kidney stone treatment— which is how it earned the name “stone breaker.” The herb is alkaline, so it may help prevent acidic kidney stones. It’s a less expensive, over-the-counter alternative to prescription potassium citrate, an alkalizing agent that’s commonly used to prevent acidic kidney stones. It may also help you urinate more. In one study of 56 people with kidney stones who took 1 cup of hot water infused with an herbal sachet containing 4.5 grams of chanca piedra twice daily, researchers found that the kidney stones decreased in size and number in about two-thirds of participants. Chanca Piedra extract can kill the bacteria that causes stomach ulcers in test-tube studies. Studies have shown that the antioxidants in Chanca Piedra have been able to improve fasting blood sugar levels, which can help with blood sugar management. For the same reason it may help with kidney stones, the alkalizing properties of Chanca Piedra may help prevent gallstones as well. It’s used in some traditional medicine practices as a gallstone treatment. Gout flare-ups can occur when high levels of uric acid build up in the blood. Chanca Piedra may help balance out these levels and prevent gout attacks. Due to its antioxidant content, Chanca Piedra may improve liver function and help protect the liver from cellular damage caused by free radicals. Unstable compounds that can cause damage when they build up in your body in high levels. The herb also appears to be helpful for treating hepatitis B, an inflammatory viral infection of the liver according to studies. Because some other herbs in the Phyllanthus genus exhibit strong antiviral activity against hepatitis B —potentially rivaling that of the antiviral medication interferon — researchers theorize that Chanca Piedra may have similar effects.

Berberine - A Natural Answer to Diabetes
Berberine – A Powerful Supplement With Many Benefits
Berberine is a supplement that has been linked with several health benefits.
It’s been shown to lower blood sugar, increase weight loss, and improve heart health.
Berberine may also aid in the treatment of conditions like depression or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
This video takes an in-depth look at berberine, how it works, and how it can impact your health.
What is berberine?
Berberine is a bioactive compound that can be extracted from several different plants, including a group of shrubs called Berberis.
It belongs to a class of compounds called alkaloids.
Berberine has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine, where it was used to treat different ailments.
Modern science has confirmed that it has impressive benefits for many different health problems.
How does it work?
Berberine has now been tested in hundreds of different studies.
One of the main actions of berberine is to activate an enzyme inside cells called AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), according to some studies.
This enzyme plays a key role in regulating metabolism and energy level.
Berberine also affects molecules inside cells and may even affect which genes are turned on or off. This could help protect against many chronic conditions.
It reduces blood sugar levels
There are studies that show that berberine can significantly reduce blood sugar levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes.
It seems to work via multiple different mechanisms and may help:
• decrease insulin resistance, making the blood sugar lowering hormone insulin more effective
• increase glycolysis, which helps the body to break down sugar inside cells
• decrease sugar production in the liver
• slow the breakdown of carbohydrates in the gut
• increase the number of beneficial bacteria in the gut
A study conducted in 2008 involving 116 people with diabetes, taking 1 gram of berberine daily lowered fasting blood sugar by 20%.
It also lowered A1c, which is a marker of long-term blood sugar control, by 12% and improved blood lipids like cholesterol and triglycerides.
According to an older study, berberine has shown that it may be as effective as certain oral diabetes drugs, including glipizide, metformin, and rosiglitazone.
It works very well with lifestyle modifications and has additive effects when administered with other blood sugar lowering drugs.
Berberine may help you lose weight
Berberine may also be an effective weight loss supplement.
In a study conducted over a 12-week period involving people with obesity, taking 500 milligrams of berberine three times daily, led to an average 5-pound loss of weight. The participants of the study also reduced their body fat percentage by 3.6%.
Berberine also appears to inhibit the growth of fat cells at the cellular level, which promotes weight loss.
It lowers cholesterol and may reduce your risk of heart disease
Heart disease is currently the leading cause of death worldwide.
As it turns out, berberine may improve heart health.
According to a review of over a dozen studies, berberine could help:
• lower total cholesterol
• lower LDL (which is bad) cholesterol
• lower blood triglycerides (Which is Fat in the blood)
• And increase HDL (which is good) cholesterol
It's been shown to lower apolipoprotein B by 13-15% in some studies, which is a significant risk factor regarding heart disease.
According to some research, berberine works by inhibiting an enzyme called PCSK9. This leads to more LDL cholesterol being removed from the bloodstream.
Diabetes, elevated blood sugar levels, and obesity are major risk factors for heart disease. All of which seem to be improved with Berberine.

Health Benefits of Ceylon Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a spice used by many different cultures as a seasoning for savory and sweet foods. There are different varieties of cinnamon. But Ceylon cinnamon is different from other varieties. It has a distinctive shape, lighter color, and delicate taste. It also has properties that contribute to many health benefits. Ceylon cinnamon is what we are going to be discussing in this video. Cinnamon is considered as an alternative treatment for diabetes. In one study, Ceylon cinnamon brought insulin levels in diabetic rats to close to normal levels. Other studies support the idea that Ceylon cinnamon is useful for diabetes treatment. Ceylon cinnamon helps stimulate insulin-like activity. It reduces insulin resistance in the body. This helps glucose metabolize in the liver, according to research. Ceylon cinnamon is a promising treatment for people looking for alternatives to synthetic insulin therapy. To use cinnamon as an insulin stabilizer, at least 120 milligrams (mg) per day are recommended by most experts. Ceylon cinnamon has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial effects. This means that Ceylon cinnamon can support your immune health. Ceylon cinnamon was part of a study that showed it enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity. This means it may help prevent or treat certain types of cancer. This is good news for people who are considering dietary supplements to prevent their cancer from growing. You shouldn’t experiment with cinnamon to treat your cancer without speaking to your oncologist first. All varieties of cinnamon contain cinnamic acid which contains anti-inflammatory effects. The anti-inflammatory property helps blood flow through the body and puts less strain on the heart. Research on Ceylon cinnamon dates to 1975. The research concluded that Ceylon cinnamon could help improve blood pressure. Weakening of the heart due to problems in the cardiovascular system often causes heart disease. Ceylon cinnamon supports cardiovascular function and contributes to healthy heart function. Ceylon Cinnamon appears to improve how the brain responds to insulin. Ceylon cinnamon may help control high blood glucose levels in the brain. Hyperglycemic episodes happen in people with diabetes. This can contribute to cognitive decline. The metabolic effect also makes Ceylon cinnamon useful in certain neurological conditions, like Alzheimer’s disease, researchers theorize. Studies show a connection between diabetes and Alzheimer’s support the idea that Ceylon cinnamon may help to stop the onset of Alzheimer’s. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) states cinnamon supplements should be safe for most people when properly dosed. Cassia cinnamon which is another type of cinnamon, contains coumarin which can be toxic to the liver if taken in large amounts or over a long time. Ceylon has a smaller amount of coumarin in it, which makes it safer.

The Amazing Benefits of Calendula
Calendula, a flowering plant also known as pot marigold, can be served as tea or used as an extract.
The tea is made by steeping the flowers in boiling water, the extract is derived from both the flowers and the leaves. Despite its slightly bitter taste, calendula tea is a traditional remedy used because of its therapeutic properties.
You can find the extract in oils, ointments, and tinctures.
1. Packed with antioxidants
Antioxidants are beneficial compounds that neutralize the harmful effects of oxidative stress in your body. Calendula extract contains several potent antioxidants.
Calendula has many anti-inflammatory compounds. Inflammation is a normal body response.
Chronic inflammation is linked to multiple conditions, which include obesity, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes.
In a research study, rats were fed monosodium glutamate also known as MSG. Calendula extract reduced oxidative stress and reversed the depletion of antioxidant levels by up to 122%.
MSG is a popular flavor enhancer that may cause headaches, dizziness, and numbness in sensitive individuals or when consumed in high doses.
2. May promote wound and skin ulcer healing
Calendula extract found in oils, ointments, and tinctures may be used topically to treat wounds and ulcers.
You can also apply the tea to your skin using either a cloth compress or spray bottle.
Studies indicate that calendula extract may regulate the expression of certain proteins that promote wound healing.
One test-tube study determined that calendula extract increased the amount of collagen in wounds as they healed. This protein is necessary to form new skin.
In a 12-week study involving 57 people, 72% of those treated with calendula extract experienced complete healing of venous leg ulcers.
In another 30-week study involving 41 adults with diabetes-related foot ulcers, 78% of participants achieved complete wound closure after daily treatment with calendula spray.
3. May combat certain cancer cells
Calendula’s antioxidant content may provide anti-tumor effects.
Test-tube studies suggest that antioxidants contained in calendula may fight leukemia, melanoma, colon, and pancreatic cancer cells.
Research indicates that the extract activates proteins that kill cancer cells while simultaneously blocking other proteins that would otherwise interfere with cell death.
4. May have antifungal and antimicrobial properties
Calendula extract is known for its antifungal and antimicrobial properties.
Research shows that oil from calendula flowers were shown to be effective against 23 strains of Candida yeast — a common fungus that can cause oral, vaginal, and skin infections.
Research has also indicated that calendula extract inhibits the growth of leishmania, the parasite responsible for leishmaniasis — a disease that may produce skin sores or affect internal organs, such as your spleen, liver, and bone marrow.
You can apply calendula oils, ointments, cloth compresses, or sprays directly to your skin.
5. May support oral health
Calendula may help treat oral conditions, such as gingivitis.
Gingivitis, which is chronic inflammation of the gums, is one of the most common oral diseases.
In a 6-month study involving 240 people with gingivitis, those given calendula mouthwash experienced a 46% reduction in inflammation.
Gargling calendula tea is said to relieve sore throats — although the evidence is anecdotal.
6. May improve skin health
Calendula extract is widely popular in expensive cosmetics, including creams and ointments.
Both test-tube and human studies show that calendula extract may enhance skin hydration and stimulate its firmness and elasticity, which could slow signs of aging. These effects are likely due to its antioxidant content.
Exposure to (UV) radiation is the leading cause of oxidative stress in the skin. One test-tube study determined that calendula oil has a sun protection factor (SPF) of 8.36. As such, sunscreens formulated with calendula oil may safeguard against sunburn.
A 10-day study involving 66 children with diaper rash determined that calendula ointment may work as a safe and effective treatment as well.
7. Other uses
May regulate the menstrual cycle. Calendula is said to induce menstruation and relieve menstrual cramps.
May relieves sore nipples during nursing. When applied topically, calendula products may treat cracked nipples during breastfeeding.
May work as a face toner. Calendula is believed to reduce acne and breakouts due to its antimicrobial properties.
May boost heart health. Calendula’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential may help reduce the risk of heart attack.
May relieve muscle fatigue. Recent research indicates that calendula extract reduces exercise induced muscle soreness.
Side effects and precautions
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considers calendula safe for general use.
While it may improve skin health in some people, allergic reactions in the skin can occur in rare instances. You should test your skin’s reaction by applying a small amount of any calendula-based product prior to using it.
It's best to avoid calendula products while pregnant to reduce your risk of miscarriage because of the herb’s alleged menstruation effects.
In a review of 46 studies, it was determined that calendula may interfere with sedatives and blood pressure medications. If you’re taking either of these, it may be best to avoid calendula. Always consult with your doctor first.

The Health Benefits of Boneset
Traditional use
Boneset has a long and colorful history and a slightly misleading name.
Not to be confused with Comfrey (which is sometimes referred to as Boneset).
This herb takes its name from a particularly virulent strain of flu that was known as “Breakbone Fever”.
More commonly known as “Dengue Fever”, the pain in the bones was so intense it is like a broken bone, and Boneset was used to bring considerable relief.
Indigenous to the Eastern United States and Canada, Boneset was introduced to the colonists by the Native American Indians.
It was also used traditionally for colds, all kinds of fevers, malaria and typhoid.
One Native American named Joe Pye became so renowned for curing typhoid with Boneset that the herb was nicknamed “Joe Pye Weed”.
Anti-inflammatory
According to some research chemists, Boneset is one of the most versatile plants on the planet. Research shows that in virtually every instance where there is inflammation or infection, Boneset has proven itself most effective.
Immune Boosting
Boneset has been shown to possess antiviral properties as well as strengthening the immune system.
Other studies have found Boneset effective against minor viral and bacterial infections by stimulating the white blood cells.
Studies indicate that Boneset’s immunostimulant properties are due to the presence of certain lactones and polysaccharides in the plant.
Fever Reducer
While a high temperature or fever is a natural healing process in the body, over a certain temperature it can be dangerous and life threatening.
A powerful diaphoretic, the most famous use of Boneset is as a fever reducer.
Best taken in a hot infusion or tincture, Boneset promotes a therapeutic sweat in fevers.
It contains flavonoids and essential oils that stimulate peripheral circulation. By encouraging sweating, it forces the body to not only cool down but to also release several harmful toxins through the skin.
Colds/Flu
The immunostimulant and fever reducing properties of Boneset make this herb a good choice to alleviate the symptoms of colds and flu.
Boneset is an effective expectorant, able to loosen phlegm and reduce inflammation in the respiratory tract.
Digestive Health
Research shows that the lactones found in Boneset stimulate digestive enzymes that are deficient in the GI tract and stimulate bile flow in the liver.

Bladderwrack - Thyroid and Anti-Aging Seaweed
Bladderwrack is a type of brown seaweed that’s used in traditional medicine. It’s also known by other names such as rockweed, red fucus and black tang.
Traditional uses over the centuries include the treatment of conditions such as joint pain, iodine deficiency, obesity, aging skin, digestive issues, urinary tract infection, and thyroid dysfunction, including both hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, as well as goiter development.
This video will tell you all you need to know about bladderwrack.
Bladderwrack nutrition
For hundreds of years, many cultures have consumed seaweed as part of their regular diet.
Bladderwrack is a type of seaweed that’s rich in vitamins and minerals, such as calcium, iodine, magnesium, potassium, sodium, zinc, and vitamins A and C.
Bladderwrack is high in fiber, which helps to support a healthy gut.
Thyroid function
Bladderwrack contains high levels of iodine, a trace element that supports thyroid health by producing the thyroid hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). These hormones help regulate your metabolism and support proper growth and neurological development.
Iodine deficiency can lead to low T3 and T4 levels and may ultimately cause health complications, such as hypothyroidism which is a condition that is characterized by symptoms such as weight gain, fatigue, dry skin, and increased sensitivity to the cold.
Hypothyroidism is mostly related to an autoimmune disease known as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.
Although being a good dietary source of iodine which is a mineral that can support thyroid health — taking bladderwrack supplements or eating large amounts of it may provide excessive amounts of iodine. So, consult with your doctor first.
People with thyroid disorders, such as hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, should practice caution, due to the fact that it could lead to worsened symptoms, especially if iodine deficiency was not the root cause of the disorder itself.
To be safe, it’s best to speak with your healthcare provider before taking bladderwrack supplements.
Anti-inflammatory effects
Bladderwrack is rich in antioxidants and vitamins A and C.
Free radicals are harmful compounds that can damage cells and lead to chronic disease and premature aging.
Some test-tube and animal studies have concluded that brown algae like bladderwrack offer anti-inflammatory results and may also help reduce tumor growth, blood sugar levels, and the risk of heart disease.
In one large study involving over 86,000 people had shown a 12% decreased risk of heart disease with the daily consumption of seaweed.
Skin health
Bladderwrack has also been used as a topical treatment for skin issues, such as skin aging, cellulite, and burns.
Early research has shown that the antioxidants in bladderwrack promote collagen synthesis in the skin, which may help improve the look of cellulite, increase skin healing, and delay premature skin aging.
In a two-phase study, applying bladderwrack extract to skin samples had led to a 228% increase in collagen production.
In the second phase, a mixture of bladderwrack extract and other algae extracts was tested on human upper leg skin for a period of 3 months. The algae mixture led to a significant decrease in cellulite appearance and fat thickness.
Other older studies using topical gels containing 1% bladderwrack extract were associated with an increase in collagen production.
Also, bladderwrack’s high antioxidant content has been linked to less collagen and elastin breakdown when applied to human skin samples. Preventing the breakdown of collagen and elastin is important for the appearance of youthful skin.
Precautions and side effects
Though generally recognized as safe, bladderwrack may have some unwanted side effects.
Applying bladderwrack to the skin is likely safe. However, avoid applying it to open wounds and cuts, and discontinue use if you experience any adverse reactions, such as a skin rash.
Like other edible seaweeds, bladderwrack is safe to eat when consumed in small amounts. However, it contains high levels of iodine, salt, and heavy metals, which can pose health risks, especially when taken in supplement form.
Along with those with thyroid disorders, bladderwrack may be unsafe for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Moreover, bladderwrack may interfere with other medications and herbal products, such as blood thinners, antiarrhythmic medications, thyroid medications, St. John’s Wort, ginkgo biloba, and valerian root.
Be sure to consult your healthcare provider before taking bladderwrack.

The Health Benefits of Astragalus
Astragalus is a perennial plant, about 16 to 36 inches tall, that is native to the Asian continent. It has hairy stems with leaves which make up 12 to 18 pairs of leaflets. The root is the medicinal part of the plant and is usually harvested when the plant is 4 years old. The dried root is used medicinally.
Astragalus has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for millennia. It is usually combined with other herbs to help strengthen the body against disease. Astragalus is called an adaptogen, meaning it helps protect the body against physical, mental, or emotional stress.
Astragalus may also help protect the body from some serious diseases such as cancer and diabetes. Both of which are serious conditions that are life threatening with no cure. In this case, prevention is always the best medicine. Diabetes alone requires a lifetime of medication and a permanent change in diet.
Astragalus is used by many to strengthen the immune system. As most of us know, the immune system is the body’s defense against disease. When our immune system fails us, we get sick. It contains antioxidants, which help to protect cells against damage. Which means preventing colds as well as upper respiratory infections. When we catch colds, it means that our immune system is not functioning efficiently. Astragalus may also aid in helping to lower blood pressure, blood sugar, and protect the liver. High blood pressure is known as the silent killer. It’s estimated that over 116 million people are on blood pressure medication today.
Astragalus is known to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties as well. Many people also sometimes use it on the skin for wounds. This means that it’s also useful to use topically as well. This could be useful since even a tiny cut can lead to infection.
Researchers have looked into astragalus as a possible treatment for people who have immune systems that have been weakened by chemotherapy or radiation. In some studies, astragalus has been shown to help people recover faster and increase lifespan.
Research shows that astragalus may help people with heart disease and high cholesterol. Astragalus has few side effects. However, it does interact with a number of prescription medications. So always consult with your doctor first. Astragalus may also be considered a mild diuretic, meaning it helps rid the body of excess fluid.
Astragalus has been used for the following:
Adaptogen: Protects the body from stress and disease.
Anemia: One early study suggested astragalus may improve blood counts in people with aplastic anemia.
Colds and influenza: In TCM, astragalus is used as part of an herbal combination to prevent or treat colds.
Diabetes: Astragalus appears to lower blood sugar according to different studies.
Fatigue or lack of appetite from chemotherapy: Some studies suggest astragalus may help reduce side effects from chemotherapy.
Heart disease: Several studies have suggested that astragalus may act as an antioxidant and help treat heart disease. Other studies suggest astragalus may help to lower cholesterol levels.
Kidney disease: Early research suggests astragalus may help protect the kidneys and help treat kidney disease. In your body, the kidneys remove waste and extra fluid from your body. The kidneys also produce an active form of vitamin D that promotes strong and healthy bones.
Seasonal allergies: One study found that astragalus may help reduce symptoms in people who have allergic rhinitis or Hay fever.
Cancer: It is also suggested that astragalus may contain anti-tumor effects, specifically against melanoma and leukemia. Both of which are highly important to detect early for the best chance of survival.
Astragalus root may be available in a variety of forms:
Tincture (liquid alcohol extract)
Capsules and tablets, standardized and non-standardized
Topically for the skin
At recommended doses, astragalus has no serious side effects and can generally be used safely. It does interact with other herbs and medications so always seek advice from your doctor.
People with autoimmune disease should speak with their doctor first before taking Astragalus because it may stimulate the immune system.
Many practitioners recommend not using any single "adaptogenic" herb over long periods of time. Instead, they might suggest rotating among several "adaptogens" every couple of months.
If you take any of the following medications, you should not use astragalus without first asking your doctor:
Drugs that suppress the immune system: Astragalus may interfere with these drugs. If you have an autoimmune disease, or take any medication used to reduce the chances of rejection in transplant recipients, or corticosteroids, do not take astragalus.

Why we should use plant medicine
Over the last hundred years pharmaceutical drugs have become the norm. Plant based medicine that was used for thousands of years has mostly been forgotten. Knowledge of it was removed from textbooks and medical curriculums. Plant-based medicine is no longer taught in medical schools. It’s difficult, if not impossible, to find a doctor willing to recommend any herbal remedies to treat anything. It’s more common to be prescribed something you can’t pronounce after you pay a doctor a visit when feeling sick. Over the last 2 years, there has been an increasing amount of distrust by people regarding medicine that only seems to lead to other health problems. A silent revolution is taking place. Many people were able to end their dependance on many drugs and have become healthier as a result. They understand that putting a band aid on the problem doesn’t fix the problem. The solution is to remain healthy enough to not need pharmaceutical drugs in the first place.
Have you ever wondered why some people seem to live forever? Have you ever known a woman able to work well into her 90s? It is common for an elderly woman in her 80s to prepare an entire feast for over a dozen people herself with no problem. Well, that is very common in many parts of the world where plant-based medicine is common. In the United States where plant-based medicine isn’t common, does our elderly population remain capable or do they become fragile? Unfortunately, most of us know people who are in their 60’s who have both the body and health of someone in their late 80’s or 90’s. Is this a coincidence?
Many people throughout the world use traditional medicine. The truth is that only one thing actually heals us, our own bodies. There are many plants that help us do just that. For the record; I am in no way condemning modern medicine, in fact, most medications have one or more ingredients that consist of medicinal plants. Aspirin comes from Willow Bark. Certain Cancer medication comes from yew trees.
The point is whether you are trying to just relieve symptoms or do you want to heal yourself completely. Most people tend to focus on the symptoms instead of the source. We are all meant to live long and healthy lives. It’s not just about how long you live but rather the quality of the life you live. When we do things the natural way, we tend to live better quality lives. This is why when people switch to 100% organic diets or use plant-based medicine, they swear by it. The reason they feel better is because they are putting natural substances in their body. With people that take herbal medicine, it’s no different. The point is to let your body function the way it's supposed to function.
