This is a short video, just simply about what mushrooms did I find on 10/9/21 in the conifer forests of Washington state, right near sea level in a county park in Kitsap County. I talk about the habitat I am foraging in. We have a look at some nice Golden Pacific Chanterelles, Boletus Edulis the porcini or King Bolete, The false chanterelle, the oyster mushroom pleurotus ostreatus, and the pholiota squarrosa. I put very little time or production value in to this particular update video, I'm just trying to give an update on what is growing in my neck of the woods. This is for entertainment purposes and not intended to be a guide for identification. I take no responsibility if you mis-identify a mushroom based on the quick and shaky images shot on a cell phone that are in this video. Just having fun picking and talking about mushrooms.

In this video I head out into one of the rare old growth stands of douglas Fir here in the PNW to see what kind of mushrooms are growing in early fall. This is a preserved old growth forest and has a unique mycoflora that is different from what I find in the common 2nd growth coniferous forests I usually look for mushrooms in. This video is purely for entertainment and not meant to be a substitute for real mushroom identification with a trusted field guide. Please do not try to compare mushroom's you find in the forest against this shakey cell phone footage. I don't elaborate on edibility too much, or about special features or medicinal uses for these mushrooms, just a fun walk in the woods.

All about the beautiful and delicious Cauliflower mushroom that grows here in the great Pacific Northwest. The latin name for this culinary delight is Sparassis Radicata, a close relative to its Eastern counterpart Sparassis Crispa. All mushrooms in the genus Sparassis are edible, and easy to identify, making them a very safe edible mushroom to forage and eat. In this video I find a beautiful patch of these delectable mushrooms, take them home and show you how to clean them and make an amazing stir fry dish with them. Spicy mushroom yakisoba. This video is a little different for this channel, but I decided to make a home made pizza with some king bolete, porcini, white porcinis..whatever you want to call them. They go by different names around the world like cepe or pennybun, or porcini. The latin name for these mushrooms is Boletus Barrowsii, and the common name "White King." Made simply with Boboli pizza crust, Prego sauce, mozzarella, Canadian Bacon, onion and peppers, and of course mushrooms, lots of mushrooms, then drizzled with olive oil and parmesan cheese. In this video I find a beautiful cluster of Boletus Barrowsii, aka the White King, aka White Porcini. This is a very handsome Boletus that is primarily "white." This mushroom is a very highly sought after culinary delight, and a somewhat rare and extremely awesome find here in the Pacific Northwest. These mushrooms are pored "boletus" mushrooms, referring to the pore filled, sponge-like surface under the cap where spores are produces. Boletus as a genus and are sought after all over the world for their sweet and amazing flavor. These mushrooms could fetch $50 lb in the north american markets. They are mycorrhizal mushrooms, meaning they associate with trees or plants. This particular mushroom is found mostly under ponderosa pine in the southwest US, and live Oak here in the Northwest, but as this video shows, they can also be growing under copper and american beech trees, as Tony Rousseau pointed out to me, these mushrooms like to associate with a variety of different trees, making them somewhat promiscuous. I was happy to find these mushrooms on a hint from a friend, and cooked some up in butter with a small pinch of salt tonight. These mushrooms need no accompaniment in the kitchen.

This video is about a mushroom thats fun for kids to pick too, and can be a great artists medium. Its known as the artists conch or artists bracket fungi, or in latin as Ganoderma Applanatum. This shelf, bracket, or conch fungi(whichever you prefer to call it, loves to grow on old decaying conifer logs and stumps in the forests of the PNW. It has a pore surface, as it is a polypore in the same family as the reishi mushroom, that is easily 'bruised' when scratched with a stick or your finger. Its a perfect mushroom to interest kids in so they can start to identify wild mushrooms and start to understand the usefulness and beauty of wild mushrooms.

This video showcases the top 3 deadly mushrooms in th e Pacific northwest, and it might suprise some of you. Whether youre a novice mushroom hunter or a seasoned forager, these are a few of the mushrooms you should definitly know so you can avoid them! The false morel or Gyromitra Esculenta is one common killer if enough are consumed. The reaction in the liver produces jet-fuel in your body, affects the central nervous system, causes liver and kidney failure, coma and then death. Not a mushroom you want to mistakenly eat. The Galerina Marginata, AKA the funeral bell is a small wood-loving LBM that packs a toxic punch and will have bells ringing at your funeral. Sometimes confused with Psilocybe Cyanescens, this mushroom is not hallucinogenic and is very deadly, and one to watch out for. And of course the ever frightful Death Cap, or Amanita Phalloides makes the top of the list with its mega dose of deadly amatoxins that kill the liver and kidneys. All of these mushrooms you should familiarize yourself with so you do not end up a statistic. In this video Aaron Hilliard, creator of Mushroom Wonderland, walks through the forest of the Pacific Northwest in autumn and identifies 10 completely wild mushrooms growing alongside the trial. Some of these are poisonous mushrooms, some of them are choice edible mushrooms, and some are somewhere in between! I come across golden chanterelles, the false chanterelle, amanita muscaria and its cousin amanita pantherina, delicious king boletes, tree loving pholiota, as well as several more. I am not a professional mycologist, just a total mushroom geek who has been picking and identifying wild mushrooms for 35 years, an avid member of a mycological society, administrator of a Facebook group, as well as the creator of Mushroom Wonderland. I also studied video production and photography in college and have a degree in integrated multi-media, so it only makes sense to combine my love for mushrooms and my passion for film and photography and make these videos, with the hope that I can spark interest in the hobby of mushroom foraging as well as raise public awareness and interest in wild mushrooms, and their medicinal, culinary, and spiritual value. The chicken of the woods, also known as the sulfur shelf or Laetiporus , is a beautiful and easily identifiable shelf like mushroom that grows all around the world and is highly regarded for its culinary value. It gets its common name because it is said to taste a lot like chicken when cooked. This polypore mushroom thrives by growing on wood, and is known as parasitic. It can attack live trees or take advantage of dead wood to eat the nutrients within the wood before producing large orange fruiting bodies and spreading its spores across the forest. It can grow on hardwood, this species is known as L. Sulphureus, or on conifers here in the northwest, known as L. Conifiricola. This video shows how to identify it, find it, and harvest it. This is a slightly...ok...very goofy video about the different types of containers or vessels you can carry your wild mushrooms in when you are out foraging. I assure you I am usually way more calm, boring, and professional than this, but we were having fun that day. Its summer so we are busy scheming up ideas for videos, so this came up, and was a blast to make. I wasn't actually finding agaricus bisporus in the wild, those are just prop mushrooms. This is a video of how to Identify the "Shaggy Parasol" mushroom, AKA Chlorophyllum Rhacodes, C. Olivieri. A delicious saprobic mushroom, meaning that it grows on decaying matter rather than mycorrhizal fungi that need certain trees to grow. This mushroom can be found in the Pacific Northwest growing in deciduous forests, meadows, horse pastures, on the borders of woodlands, in tall grass, well...pretty much anywhere. They usually grow in large abundant patches and can easily be identified by the moveable ring on the stipe, the shaggy top, and the reddish staining and bruising. A somewhat fragile, large, and delicious edible mushroom that you should learn to forage and bring home to your dinner table.

This video is an update to people who follow the channel and/or are curious about what mushrooms can be found in the forest of the PNW, namely Washington State in the dead heat of summer. Some interesting mushrooms have been popping up, despite it being very warm and extremely dry out. Apparently it doesn't take much moisture to kick off another flush of Agaricus Augustus, the 'Prince' mushroom. A delicious edible wild mushroom that's a great find in the summer time. Also, golden and rainbow chanterelles are still flushing inn the forest and make a great compliment to nay meal. Also come across a 'Velvet Footed Pax", Tapinella Atrotomentosa, a well known dyeing mushroom, although no good for the dinner table. This latest offering to the YouTube world from Mushroom Wonderland is a video explaining all the things you should know about the bleeding tooth fungus, aka the devils tooth fungi, aka strawberries and cream. This interesting can be found growing near conifer trees in the Pacific Northwest, and it has been discovered in many other places around the world. This odd mushroom excretes a blood red guttation on its cap that can look like...well..blood. Hence the name "Bleeding tooth." The tooth part is actually because this is a 'tooth fungi' and instead of having gills, veins, or pores, it has small tooth-like projections under the cap and down the stipe. This beautiful fungi can be used as a medicinal mushroom and has anti-coagulant properties, anti-bacterial properties, and may be used in treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
