On Mental Health Awareness and Suicide
We live in a culture which requires us to follow an unwritten “Mental Health Awareness Script.” And you can get in big trouble if you deviate from its course.
The Approved Mental Health Script requires that you agree with at least three, sacred pillars:
“-Mental illness is a disease, just like cancer.
-“It’s not a choice, not a sign of weakness, and we cannot blame the mental illness on the individual.”
-“If you are experiencing depression, you should seek professional help.” (Note: this usually means a person with an advanced degree in psychiatry—not a church pastor or Theologian.)

The "Race" of Life--Where Do Kids Get Privilege?
Did you see the video that went viral a couple years ago, in which a teacher explained the concept of “privilege” to a gym class full of students by having them race to the finish line and try to win a $100 bill?
Kids got to take two steps forward if their parents are still married…and if they have a relationship with their fathers…and if they “never had to help mom or dad with bills.” And, sadly, far too many Black American youth can’t say those things apply to them...
This experiment resonated with a lot of people. But I note several improvements that need to be made, to more accurately represent American Capitalism and the PROBLEMS with teaching kids about "White Privilege."

Marriage Feels Like WORK, Don't Expect Differently--Mom Rant
There’s nothing quite like marriage to reveal our weaknesses and remind us how much we prefer BEING SERVED rather than doing the serving. Every day, as both a wife and mother, I’m shocked by how much I’m tempted to become an ugly, shriveled, self-obsessed monster.
I have to struggle every, single day to remember that my husband is not my Need-Fulfillment Vending Machine. He does not exist solely so that I can push a button and get him to dispense what I call “love” and “joy,” whenever I think he owes me.
I have to cling to Jesus every, single day, lest I view my husband and kids like smartphones built for my convenience.
Do you know how much work that is?

Please Start Judging, or We Can't Be Friends--Mom Rants
Humans are the only creatures able to think-critically and exercise good judgment, which is why they make the best friends.
If I wanted “no judgment,” I’d forge a relationship with a piece of artificial intelligence software that just repeats everything I say first. I could type “I’m awesome!” and the robot would type back “You’re awesome!” But that would get old very fast.
Software can’t judge what I’m saying.
But I want REAL friends who REALLY think critically and bring their own perspectives to the table…
Christian women: stop trying to become robots who parrot things they've been told. Good friends JUDGE each other righteously.

Public Schools are Failing ALL Kids, but Still Focusing on Color--Fed Up Mom Rants
I’m doing a video today instead of writing on my blog about this... Why? Because we live in the most ILLITERATE generation since the Dark Ages.
According to a document created by a non-profit called “Stand for Students, Indiana,” less than 32% of white students were able to pass both the Math and English portions of the state achievement test. That means a whopping 68% of them failed.
So WHY are the social justice non-profits out here focusing on "helping" the black and brown kids catch up to the white ones...when the majority of ALL students are still failing?
Why are we breaking this down by color and accepting low standards--as long as all the student test scores are "equally" BAD?
I'm FED UP with pitting communities against each other while covering up the ways the public schools are making our kids dumber.

My Testimony of Postpartum Depression
After the birth of my second child, I struggled with unrelenting insomnia and panic attacks which eventually caused me to contemplate suicide. In the midst of my suffering, I wrestled with questions about the type of God who would allow something so painful to happen to me, while still claiming to be good.
