In this DVD, Obata Toshishiro-sensei demonstrates the basic curriculum and techniques of bojutsu practice. Learning the bo (six-foot staff) is the foundation for learning all pole weapons, such as the jo (short staff) and yari (spear). Included are kamae (stances), mawashi (twirling exercises), basic striking, as well as bo kata (forms) and kumite (sparring), all performed by Obata Toshishiro-sensei, assisted by Obata Yoko-sensei. Special features include slow- motion sequences, step-by-step repetitions, and alternative views of techniques performed. English DVD. Approx. 30 minutes.

This DVD covers ashisabaki or footwork, the foundation of any martial art. Obata Toshishiro-sensei demonstrates various ashisabaki exercises, as well as taiso (body warmups), taisabaki (body movement), and sotai (partner practice, using sword on some techniques). Obata Yoko-sensei assists. Special features include 3-dimensional movement grids superimposed upon the demonstrations for easy following, slow-motion sequences, and alternate views of techniques. Also includes a bonus tameshigiri (sword test-cutting) demonstration by Obata Toshishiro-kaiso. English DVD. Approx. 30 minutes.
