(This game is currently in a pre-alpha state and does not represent the final product.) Netmarble has released a pre-alpha test version for their new battle royale 3rd person shooter called "Squad Battle". The gameplay seems to be focused 3-man squads, melee and ranged combat and base capturing, along with the usual gameplay elements that one would expect from a battle royale game. My first impressions on the game: While I did enjoy the game's visual design, and having melee combat in a battle royal shooter is nice, but the overall gameplay doesn't feel very impactful. Melee attacks lack any hitstun or enemy feedback during attacks, and hitting opponents with ranged weapons feels more difficult than it should be (but my aim isn't the best, so that that assessment for what you will.) I do believe that if they can improve the game's pacing, and give melee weapons more impact, I could see myself enjoying this game a lot. As it stands, it feels like a very bog-standard battle royale/hero shooter in its current state.
