This is one of the nicer areas that flood out annually. Many of these people have no functioning utilities, missing windows and black mold. These White low income areas are completely ignored by the mainstream.

Mission complete. My new babies are able to roam with the older hens without any problems.

These girls are very smart and follow directions.

All you have to do is talk to them. I can domesticate any chicken in less than 2 months.

My girls are getting big and I share an observation about mountain folks and Jesus people.

There's girls we're a nice distraction from losing my Baby Girl.

Whenever I lose one I replace them with a few more.

She was the friendliest hen I've ever seen. Always happy to see me and followed me around like a puppy. I used to sing her and her sisters name them when they'd sit in my lap. She loved to hear me sing to her. I love my girls.

When I started research for my book I never realized what I would find here. We attempted to do missionary work to help those in need here but to our surprise, it wasn't welcome. The hardship here is not viewed that way by much of the locals. It was just another day in the Appalachian mountains. It quickly became clear that they prefer to be helped by their own and I now understand we were imposing ourselves on them. It was hard to watch but in these parts you cannot simply knock on your neighbors door to check on them. You'll often end up staring down the barrel of a gun as they shout "Get the f@ck off of my property!" We also learned that those who are helping them are also taking advantage of them. These small towns have controlling families that have rigged the economy against them. We stopped our charity work because it wasn't worth the risk to our own safety.

In my previous life as a musician I had the privilege of playing music with a very talented Milwaukee drummer. I got to party with Faster Pussycat amongst other amazing and talented musicians until he took his life with a heroine overdose. All that hard work went up like smoke and I haven't played music since. R.I.P. Taj, you are not forgotten.

We really had our hands full with this move. The remodel was one thing but the runoff after a snow or rain would go beneath our mobile home causing the braces to sink. It's important to watch the runoff in the mountains and direct it away from the foundation with a spade.

This place had black mold, faulty wiring, plumbing issues, bad ventilation, caved in floors and a bad gas leak. Turns out we weren't very well received by the locals. These small mountain communities aren't very friendly to out of towners. Resources are very limited in remote areas like this and are very expensive. Building supplies are easily twice the price of what we were paying in Illinois. It's important to be as self sufficient as possible when moving to another world like this.

We successfully escaped the prison city of Chicago and after a long drawn out closing we are officially moved in to our shanty in the Appalachian mountain community of Vancleve Kentucky. This is the beginning of our journey through the Bible belt on our way to Tennessee. Flip number one is now under way.

This video is from 2020. Covid killed my business and was denied SBA assistance based on not being a female or minority owned business. My car was repossessed and was falling behind on the homesstead. I had no choice but to sell before losing that too. I left illinois and moved to the mountains of East Kentucky but the closing was held up. I stayed in a garage in Southern Illinois in late December with my chickens until the wire transfer from the sale went through. I had no idea what would soon follow.

She's my special needs chicken. Because she looks so different from the others, they tend to beat up on her so she gets to stay in the house whenever she wants. When I talk to her, she answers.

Hens are so dramatic.

I am not a fan of mice but I don't support torturing them.
