The Importance of Wildlife Conservancies in Africa!
As human development expands, our precious natural resources are being consumed at an alarming rate. Land that was once home to countless species is now making way for cities and infrastructure. And as animals lose their habitats, they become increasingly endangered.
Thankfully, national parks have done an incredible job of protecting wildlife and minimizing human-animal conflict within their boundaries. But what happens when animals venture beyond these protected areas? This is where wildlife conservancies step in. By working closely with communities living alongside national parks and reserves, conservancies create new areas of protected habitat exclusively for wildlife. But this can only happen if the local communities can derive income and benefits that surpass other land-use alternatives.

Why Vultures Matter More Than You Think for a Healthy Environment!
Vultures have long been misunderstood and even vilified by many cultures. But did you know that they play a vital role in maintaining the balance of our ecosystem? These birds of prey are nature’s clean-up crew, consuming the carcasses of dead animals that would otherwise pose a threat to public health and the environment.
Vultures have an incredibly strong stomach acid that allows them to consume meat that is highly infected with harmful bacteria and viruses, such as anthrax and botulism. In fact, their digestive system is so efficient that they can even digest bones, which helps to reduce the amount of waste left behind.

Lion vs Tiger – Difference and Comparison
Lions and tigers are two of the most iconic big cats in the world. Despite living in different habitats, they share some similarities in terms of behavior and physical characteristics. In this article, we’ll explore the differences and similarities between these majestic animals.
Let’s start with their family history. Both lions and tigers belong to the Panthera genus, which includes other big cats like jaguars and leopards. However, unlike their smaller cousins, the big cats have the ability to roar due to their specialized vocal cords.

How Do Lions Care for Their Cubs?
In the vast expanse of the African wilderness, lionesses, the female lions, are the backbone of the pride. They are responsible for nurturing and protecting future generations of lions. When it’s time for a lioness to give birth, she does so away from the pride.
Cubs are born helpless and completely dependent on their mother for survival. The lioness keeps them hidden from all animals, including her own pride. When the cubs are about eight weeks old, the lioness finally introduces them to her pride.

What Is The Purpose of Stripes in Zebras?
When you think of zebras, the first thing that comes to mind is their striking stripes. It’s their most recognizable trait, that has been a source of fascination for ages. But have you ever wondered why zebras have such a distinctive look? Is there any reason for their immediately identifiable coats?
Well, for a long time, scientists thought that the zebra stripes acted as camouflage, making it difficult for predators to single out one animal from the herd. But there’s not much evidence to support that theory. It’s possible that it works this way, but that’s just a best guess; no experiments have tested the theory rigorously.

Hippo
In ancient times, when The Creator made all the animals, He created each one with care and attention. But there was one creature that He forgot, the Hippopotamus. Realizing His mistake, The Creator decided to use the remaining animal parts to create the Hippo.
When the Hippo saw himself for the first time, he was filled with shame and embarrassment. He was too self-conscious to live on the land like the other animals. So, he begged The Creator to allow him to live in the water, where he could hide away from prying eyes.
The Creator was hesitant to grant this request, fearing that the Hippo would eat all the fish in the water with its large mouth and teeth. But the Hippo promised that he would only eat grass and not harm any of the fish.
Still unsure, The Creator refused the request several times, but the persistent Hippo would not give up. Finally, The Creator relented but on one condition - the Hippo must scatter his dung on the land every day so that The Creator could examine it for fish bones.
And so, to this day, the Hippo lives in the water during the day, only coming out at night to graze on the land and scatter its dung. The Creator's condition is a reminder that every action has consequences and that promises must be kept.

African Folklore Stories | Ep. 4: Why The Elephant Has A Trunk?
Once upon a time, the Elephant had a small snout that he was proud of. It didn't cause any problems for him while he was feeding and drinking. However, his large size made it difficult for him to reach food and water without kneeling down.
One day, while drinking from a river, Crocodile attacked Elephant by grabbing his nose. The two creatures engaged in a fierce battle that lasted for hours. With each pull and tug, Elephant's nose stretched a little more until Crocodile became too tired to continue and let go.
Distraught and embarrassed, Elephant hid in the bushes. But he soon realized that his long nose was more useful than his previous small snout. He could now reach high branches and pull them down to eat the fruit and leaves without kneeling. The other Elephants saw the benefits of having a long trunk and, one by one, went to the river to taunt Crocodile to try and pull them in. But, each time, the Elephants won the tug-of-war, and Crocodile remained hungry.
From that day on, all Elephants have a long trunk, which helps them to reach food and water easily. And Crocodiles have learned not to waste their energy attacking Elephants while they drink from the river.

African Folklore Stories | Ep. 3: Why Cheetahs Have Tear Mark?
Once upon a time, a hunter left his village to search for food. As he wandered through the savannah, he spotted a young Impala that had strayed away from its herd. As he was considering the best way to catch it, he noticed a mother Cheetah hiding in the long grass nearby. Suddenly, the Cheetah sprang out and caught the Impala with impressive speed.
The hunter was amazed by the Cheetah's hunting prowess and wished he had a Cheetah to help him catch food for his family. He then saw her three cubs resting under a tree nearby, watching their mother devour her prey.
"This could be my opportunity," he thought. "Why not take one of the cubs with me to train it to hunt for me?"
Without a second thought, the hunter ran towards the cubs and snatched all three, thinking he could catch three times as much food for his family. The mother Cheetah returned to find her cubs missing and mourned for hours on end, leaving dark stains on her cheeks from her tears.
An old man passing by saw the Cheetah's grief and inquired about it. Learning of the cubs' theft, he recognized that the three cubs brought into the village that morning belonged to the mother Cheetah. The old man reprimanded the hunter for breaking tribal hunting traditions and taking advantage of his skills and abilities.
He then promised to return the cubs to their mother immediately. When the cubs were reunited with their mother, she was overjoyed and grateful. However, the hours of crying had left a permanent dark stain on her cheeks, a reminder of her anguish.

African Folklore Stories | Ep. 2: Why The Zebra Has A Stripy Coat?
Once upon a time, all the animals in the world looked exactly the same, and they became bored with their uniform appearance. They asked The Creator if they could have a way to distinguish themselves from one another. The Creator listened to their request and spent weeks crafting various coats and horns of different shapes and sizes, so the animals could choose what they wanted.
Excited, the animals rushed off to pick their new look, except for the fat Zebra, who was too busy eating his meal. The Zebra loved food above all else, and he wouldn't let anything interrupt his meals.
After finishing his meal, Zebra wandered to The Creator, passing the other animals, who now looked completely different. The Elephant had chosen a simple gray coat and had magnificent tusks to complement it. The Lion had picked a sleek coat with a stunning mane. The Rhino, being a bit nearsighted, had chosen a baggy coat that was too big for him, and he had two different-sized horns.
Zebra's mind raced with excitement as he thought about what coat and horns he wanted. But, to his disappointment, when he finally reached The Creator, there were no horns left, and there was only one coat remaining. The last coat was black and white, with rather garish stripes. Zebra had no choice but to take it.
Since that day, Zebras have been wearing their iconic black and white striped coats. Moreover, they are still always hungry, and it is rare to find a thin Zebra.

African Folklore Stories | Ep. 1: Why The Warthog Is So Ugly?
Once upon a time, the Warthog was a stunning animal, but his vanity made him unpopular with other creatures. One day, he encountered Porcupine, who was exhausted from a night of foraging and decided to take a nap in Warthog's burrow while he was out searching for food.
Warthog discovered a waterhole and some good grazing nearby, and Lion, who was in a foul mood, spotted him covered in mud and charged at him. In a panic, Warthog raced back to his burrow, but Lion couldn't follow him inside and roared angrily outside the entrance.
Meanwhile, Porcupine woke up from his nap and, thinking he was under attack, raised his quills. As Warthog raced back into his burrow, he collided with Porcupine and got his face and nose covered in quills. In pain, he rushed back out of the burrow, and Lion laughed at his misfortune. The other animals also mocked Warthog and didn't help him remove the quills.
Warthog's face swelled up, and he lost his good looks, but he learned a valuable lesson about vanity. He now enters his burrow backward, so as not to repeat his mistake, and remains an unattractive animal to this day.

Guide to Giraffe Species: How Many Types of Giraffes Are There?
Giraffes are magnificent creatures that tower over the open plains, grasslands, and woodlands of Africa, with their extremely long necks and legs, making them the tallest mammals in the world. These social animals peacefully roam the savannah in large herds, foraging for food at the tops of trees. While they are handsome and impressive, they are also vulnerable and have been vastly under-researched, despite being among the most recognized animals of the savannah.
Recent research has shown that giraffes are not just one species with nine subspecies, as previously thought, but rather four distinct species. These species include the Northern giraffe, Southern giraffe, Masai giraffe, and Reticulated giraffe! .

Male lions in the wild are truly magnificent creatures. With their power, beauty, and majestic manes, they rightfully deserve the title of “King of the Jungle”. At the onset of their sexual maturity, male lions begin to grow thick manes around their head, neck, and underbelly which distinguishes them from their female counterparts. As males age, their manes also grow thicker and darker, making them look more intimidating which in turn helps them to maintain their territory by preventing young males from challenging them.
