In Chapter Twenty-three, Valamir leaves her to go into battle. Desperate with worry, Helena waits for hours with Caratipian and Rhys - all aware of their dependency upon the Goth. When Valamir returns, Helena tends to his slight wound and finally surrenders to her feelings for him.

In Chapter Twenty-two, Helena realizes that her feelings for Valamir are growing. Yet, she remains deeply conflicted about being with the Huns with all of their chaos and destruction.

In Chapter Twenty-One, Helena comes face to face with her archenemy, Greillia. For once, she is not afraid. Her bravery is not without consequences.

Helena is still grappling with the reality of her life as a women in a camp surrounded by Huns with the protection of one man, Valamir. And Valamir has one devastating flaw.

Helena and Valamir follow Attila to the ceremony where the spoils of their conquests are divided. Helena is once again faced with Greillia and her reaction is intense.

Helena and Valamir share a meal with Attila and survive the experience.

In Chapter Eighteen, Helena realizes that Valamir has hidden depths. Though his remorse appears real, for Helena, trust is not so easily regained.

Attila visits Helena at Valamir's tent. Wisely, she joins him outside and spares with him verbally, but with great care. Then Valamir returns and this is what follows....

Life is full of disappointments especially in the 400's. Helena is finding Attila to be a crafty adversary and Valamir falls prey to his machinations - at least in this chapter..

In this last chapter, Helena comes full circle.

Having been reunited with her father, Helena sees him clearly. Not harem material, she wants nothing to do with his lofty plans for a marriage to the Persian Emperor. Yet, he is her father and resembles her grandfather. She cannot help but feel love for him.

Attila brings Helena to translate for him with the Persian force. When she meets the commander, he is not whom she expected….

In Chapter Twenty-five, Hunnic scouts catch sight of a large Persian Imperial Guard. Attila decides that he needs Helena's skills as a translator. Even though she has no actual choice, she agrees with his plan as she feels that her presence might make a difference. She is filled with dread at the thought of Valamir facing an organized military force.

Her feelings for Valamir fully awakened, Helena comes face to face with her past. Attila has captured a noble Persian woman and her child. Yet, all is not as if first appears.
