Happy Father's Day from Indy Hammered Knives. I was commissioned for a custom knife for this Father's day and felt so honored and blessed to be a part of something so special I wanted to share the story with you here and now. One special daughter wanted to do something more spectacular and more thoughtful than any I had ever heard of. Now don't get me wrong, getting a hand crafted, hand forged knife for fathers day is certainly a very special gift in it own right. However, as a blacksmith / bladesmith this is the most special that I have ever been a part of. She had a cigar box of her grandfathers, that was very special to him and he being always known by this cigar and a found memory of him always with his favorite cigar, she wanted to somehow incorporate the box (which was vintage and unbeknownst to her Father) into a knife some way some how. Her idea was to have the incorporated box and hand crafted custom knife made for her Father to give to him on Fathers Day, which was actually the day his father (her Grandfather) died. She left all the idea, creativity and design up to me. Which was a challenge since never before in history has a cigar box (which is basically paper) been made into a knife handle. Well never before now, never before Indy Hammered Knives The process was this, one layer of leopard wood as the base, one layer of intentionally cut piece of cigar box and then all set in a clear epoxy resin mold to make it all one hard indestructible piece. Take a look at the steps and the process. The only piece that is missing is the vacuum chamber the resin cast was set in to remove every microscopic air bubble to create a perfect resin cast, polished to look just like glass. Please take a close look at the mural from the box and you will see the story of Garcia Vega's wife carving their initials into the infamous tree with her knife (which was carefully preserved for this handle) as well as the cigar makers marque signature on the other side. It was an absolute pleasure and honor to be part of a gift that will be timeless and again the most special I have ever witnessed. Today, November 15th, 2019 Indy Hammered Knives turns 5 years old!!! Most small business in the USA fail (almost 85%) in the first 5 years and as of today IHK continues to grow and thrive! So for that I am very thankful and wanted to do a short recap of the first 5 years, thank everyone for their support and to send blessings to all my friends looking forward to what God has in store for the next 5 years!!!

Every good hand made knife should tell a story and on this years Father's Day, 2019, this knife certainly has an amazing one. The wood used in the creation of this timeless knife is carbon dated to be from the year 675 AD and is now completely extinct. Watch to hear and see this tremendous story. Knife Making Classes Knife Academe by Indy Hammered Knives Well, thanks be to God! The much anticipated and requested classes are finally available. Meticulous planning and preparations have been made and tweaked in order for you to have the most amazing experience entering into the old world craft of hand forging knives. Have you watched enough YouTube videos, been intrigued by the show Forged in Fire, or had a unfulfilled dream of working steel into an artistic, multi-generational and timeless piece to be handed down in your family for some time now but not sure how to get started. Well, here it is. You will start with raw materials and within two 8 hour days, leave with a finished knife. One to be very proud of! One that I will consider an honor to have my "crossed IHK hammers" on as well by successfully passing on a set of skills worthy! Please note - this is a working class, not a talking class! (I will teach using a method of E.D.I.(Educate, Demonstrate, Imitate). We have taken a lot of time to make this the best class available and find that a lot of folks felt that other classes were a little too much talking and not enough working, not the case here! What you will learn: Shop Safety (First and Foremost a safe class is priority no. 1) Basic Techniques of Knife Making How to grind and shape a knife Forging Basics: Proper Hammering Technique, Critical Temperature, Quench Hardening and Tempering Free Hand Grinding a Convex Edge Crafting a beautiful finished handle from a selection of exotic hardwoods and other materials of your choice. Melissa Miller does a fantastic job putting her new hand forged, hammered, TEK knife by Indy Hammered Knives to task on a hard piece of ash wood. She by far has proven her knowledge and skill level on the show Naked and Afraid under extreme conditions so she truly knows her stuff. I am grateful and honored to see her in the field with the TEK that I built specifically for her as well as the copper bracelet you can see also in the video! Enjoy! Sooooooooooo.........this just happened!!’⚒ The Governors task for from the department of labor just came in to investigate a compliant (thank you whoever felt the concern for public safety) Below shows the visit and their findings but in a nutshell they were very nice and found me to be in full compliance with no warning issued.

Today we are going to pull a video from the archives! People always ask "Do you do knife sharpening and restorations?" OF COURSE WE DO! This video was shot when the shop looked totally different, 5 or so years ago, and was used to demonstrate a simple restoration and sharpening of an old forgotten case knife.
