Our family has taken an indefinite break from eating foods not prepared in our home. This has been pretty challenging and has caused us to make some big lifestyle changes. Chemicals are immersed in almost everything sold in stores, including things labeled “organic.” So we set out to buy our food from local, organic farmers as much as we can as well as what we produce at home. We’re about 8 weeks in and have worked out a lot of the kinks from such a big change for our family of 7. Fermenting the feed is a simple process that involves soaking it in water for a day or so prior to feeding. Fermenting chicken feed has many health benefits for your flock. 1. 3 overripe bananas 1 1/2 c flour (we use gluten free because of allergies, but regular all purpose will work just fine) 1/2 c sugar 1/3 c melted butter 1 egg 1 t salt 1 t baking soda 1/2 t cinnamon 1 c chocolate chips Mix all ingredients (except chocolate chips) until just mixed. Add in chocolate chips and mix. Pour into greased bread pan or muffin pan. Bake at 350 degrees until knife comes out clean. Bread usually takes about 1 hour and muffins about 25 minutes, but adjust accordingly.
