Lost Ramsey Article and R:IQ Questions Answered! - Ep. #49
In Episode 49 of the HopeFilled Financial Podcast, using the Wayback Machine, we review the article that was taken down from Dave Ramsey's website after Jay's call in to the Ramsey Show on 11/2. Jay shares what he really liked about the article and the parts that contradict what Dave Ramsey has been saying about safe withdrawal rates for retirement.
Jay also shows Dave Ramsey's R:IQ Tool from his website and asks you to contemplate whether the tool works the way it is supposed to or not. What do you think? Is it broken? Or is Jay missing something?

Coffee ISN'T Killing Your Retirement - Main Topic #34
Have you ever heard this: "If you just give up your daily Starbucks or coffee, you could become a millionaire"? In other words: "Your coffee habit is costing you your financial future!" Well, Jay isn't too sold on this overused "financial tip." The coffee example misses the mark in a big way! This is despite the likes of Suze Orman, Dave Ramsey, Graham Stephan, and Kevin O'Leary all preaching this example to teach opportunity cost. We need to consider opportunity cost in a productive way to reconcile example with real life. How can we do this? Jay is going to tell you all about it in Episode 34 of the HopeFilled Financial Podcast.

Dave Ramsey Is WRONG AGAIN for 8%! Why I Called Dave on 11/2 - Ep #48
This is my reaction to the call I made to Dave Ramsey on November 2nd. It is also FULL context that lead up to the call - Including two more Dave 8% calls, George's FIRE, and the dead article.

Frugally Replacing My Printer - HopeFilled Story #33
In the story today, Jay shares how he used the 80-20 rule to help him buy a new printer frugally. In Jay's history, he utilized a beastly printer - a Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark II! Sadly, this printer just died... but it did last 13 years. Given how valuable this printer was and how the family needs/wants have evolved, Jay needed to take a well-informed and frugal approach in finding the replacement. This story serves as a great example of how to apply frugality where the cheapest option isn't the most frugal one for you.

I Called Dave Ramsey About 8% - Dave's Rant EXPLODES! 11/2/2023
This is my reaction to the call I made to the Ramsey Show Live on November 2nd, 2023. This is the call that broke X (Twitter) with over 4M Views.
This isn't near all the context that you will want to know about. A lot happened leading up to this call. Subscribe if you don't want to miss the full Episode #48 on November 21st.
In Episode #37, I said Dave Ramsey was WRONG about 8% being a safe withdrawal rate. What I know to be true of the 4% Rule (give or take a percent) has me bound and determined to change Dave Ramsey's mind.
While this call is arguably a failed attempt, I pray it is a stepping stone to success.

How Do You NOT Enable Children With Money? - Listener Question #31
The listener question asks how do you balance supporting your child while still teaching them how to be independent. There is a transition from being fully dependent to completely independent (if all goes well). How do you manage this transition without stepping into undue expectations and financial enabling? If you financially enable a child, friend, or family member, are you doing so to feed the relationship? Are you trying to buy friendship?

Who Gets a Vote in YOUR Budget? - Budget Tip #31
The budget tip of the day is to make sure no one but you and your spouse are getting a vote in your budget. Your parents, kids, or others should not be dictating how you spend your money. Do you feel like you (and your spouse if you are married) get exclusive voting rights in your budget? Do you have family or friends who are imposing their vote onto your financial life? What is the difference between letting someone have a vote and just taking wise advice?

WATCH OUT for Risk That Isn’t Scary! Risky VS Scary Money - Ep #45
Are there financial products that scare you? Is personal finance scary?
In Episode 45 of the HopeFilled Financial Podcast, Jay explains the difference between scary things and risky things. If something is risky and scary, you naturally avoid it for good reasons. When a financial opportunity is scary but not risky, are you missing out due to FEAR? Some common financial tools are genuinely risky, but they aren't scary! In those cases, pay extra close attention - these are the things that can GET YOU! If you want to know what financial products you should really be scared of, this is the episode for you!
In today's story, Jay shares how he gave his boss a tick instead of a treat. A little prank turned out to be fruitful as it inspired today's episode.
The budget tip is to create a separate budget sinking fund for "more expensive" holidays. You know what your favorite holiday is. You know how the costs can add up fast. Why don't we break up the saving into manageable chunks throughout the year?
