The Formation of Israel: How the Jewish State Came to Be (How We Got Here) Shocking Video
Narrated by Jack Murphy
The land known today as Israel has ancient roots, with Jewish kingdoms existing there over 3,000 years ago. However, conquests, exiles, and migrations led Jewish communities to spread worldwide in a phenomenon known as the Diaspora. By the late 19th century, as national movements surged across Europe, Zionism emerged advocating for the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine. This vision gained traction, especially after World War I when the League of Nations granted Britain the mandate over Palestine. Under British rule, Jewish immigration increased, leading to tensions with the existing Arab population. In 1947, aiming to address the conflicting national aspirations, the United Nations proposed partitioning Palestine into separate Jewish and Arab states, with Jerusalem envisioned as an international city. Despite opposition to the partition, on May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion declared Israel's independence. Almost immediately, neighboring Arab states invaded, sparking a war that would culminate in the 1949 Armistice Agreements, defining Israel's borders. Since its establishment, Israel has faced numerous wars and conflicts but has also inked peace treaties with nations like Egypt and Jordan. Today, the State of Israel stands as a central figure in Middle Eastern geopolitics, with its history and future intertwined with ongoing efforts and challenges to achieve lasting peace, particularly in relation to the Palestinian territories.

D-Day Tribute: Honoring Ted Roosevelt Jr.'s Heroic Service on D-Day
Ted Roosevelt Jr., born on September 13, 1887, was an extraordinary American military leader and politician. He was the eldest son of President Theodore Roosevelt and Edith Roosevelt, and he grew up surrounded by a legacy of public service.
Throughout his life, Ted Roosevelt Jr. exhibited a remarkable dedication to his country. During World War I, he served as a major in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his outstanding leadership and bravery in combat.
However, it was during World War II that Roosevelt Jr. truly left an indelible mark on history. Despite being in his fifties and suffering from various health issues, he requested to serve on the front lines and was granted permission. On June 6, 1944, known as D-Day, he led the 4th Infantry Division as they landed on Utah Beach in Normandy, France.
Roosevelt Jr.'s leadership and courage were instrumental in the success of the Utah Beach landing. Despite heavy casualties and chaos on the battlefield, he fearlessly rallied his troops, even personally directing landing craft and organizing the assault. His unwavering determination inspired those around him and played a crucial role in securing the beachhead.
Tragically, just a month after the D-Day landings, on July 12, 1944, Ted Roosevelt Jr. passed away from a heart attack. His death was a great loss to the nation and a testament to his selfless devotion to duty.
Ted Roosevelt Jr.'s legacy continues to inspire and remind us of the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom. His unwavering bravery, leadership, and commitment to service serve as an everlasting tribute to his character and the indomitable spirit of the American people.

Lyrics
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy
With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early
The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin
As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most
With a crew and good captain well seasoned
Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland
And later that night when the ship's bell rang
Could it be the north wind they'd been feelin'?
The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the captain did too
T'was the witch of November come stealin'
The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashin'
When afternoon came it was freezin' rain
In the face of a hurricane west wind
When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin'
"Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya"
At seven PM, a main hatchway caved in, he said
"Fellas, it's been good to know ya"
The captain wired in he had water comin' in
And the good ship and crew was in peril
And later that night when his lights went outta sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Does any one know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her
They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters
Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the rooms of her ice-water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams
The islands and bays are for sportsmen
And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered
In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed
In the maritime sailors' cathedral
The church bell chimed 'til it rang twenty-nine times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early
