Helping another farming friend out
We are rebuilding our barn using shipping containers. Now we have to bury over 25 posts, fix our hot line fence for the cows and we take a visit to a friends homestead to help them with getting their garden tilled.
We have now been on our farm for a little over 3 years. Slowly we are expanding both our infrastructure and our animals. Follow our journey through learning about farm and ranch life. It's usually pretty comical.
As a large family and homestead we are working to be as cost effective and frugal in our farming as we can. We raise chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys for meat and for eggs. Our pigs and steers for meat and of course our milk cow Dahlia for that delicious milk! We aim to make our land better than when we bought it through Permaculture principals. We believe happy animals are a must and that working as a family can be fun!

Castrating our boar, Moving our shipping containers for the barn
So what do you do when you want to have less boars on your farm? well... you castrate them or sell them. We are able to catch one of our boars to be castrated, the other one escapes us, for now. Finally we are able to move the shipping containers as well so we can continue building our barn!!! Wahoo!!!!

Hog butchering tutorial
This video is a walkthrough on how we butcher our hogs here on HashleyFarms. We are still learning ourselves and are excited to share what we know with you. We do have a channel on YouTube but more likely than not this video will get censored on YouTube because it hurt some ones feelings and they needed to demonetize it.
We are an expanding homestead that caters towards raising different types of fowl (chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese) but are branching out into other animals. Our long term goal is to become as self-sufficient as we can be from the grocery stores by growing our own food.

New babies on the farm!
We FINALLY finished the chick brooder. It was just in time too, because the day after we completed it is when our Cornish Cross chickens were delivered. Brittany went to Tractor supply that same day to get a heat lamp bulb and we ended up getting 20 Golden Sex Link hens... so were a little bird crazy!
**MIRACLE WATER**
- 1 gallon of warm water
-1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
-1/4 cup honey
- 1 garlic clove crushed

We got Josie, our milk cow, last month and she is due on the 22 of February. On top of that our new ducklings are coming on the next week and we finally have nailed down our next pig purchase!!!

Homemade Cow udder balm
Brittany has 2 recipes for making an Udder Cream and for an essential oil spray both to help Josie from getting mastitis and to help combat mastitis if she gets it. Kayden and Drew work together to make a dinner that Kayden picked out.

She had her calf... and we don't know how to milk!
It finally happened, Josie had her calf. The last 2 and a half days have been a whirlwind as we have worked through checking regularly on Josie and the calf, milking for the first time and getting Brittany's back home to California. We made it though and the fruits of our labors are, well, milky!

Milking Stanchion build
Today we built our milking stanchion. It is my own design and is sufficient for one cow.
