He went even further, declaring that not keeping the Sabbath is a sin! The Sabbath is part of the Ten Commandments—the Fourth Commandment, to be exact—and the Bible defines sin as violating God's Law. This means that breaking the Sabbath is just as serious as sins like stealing, lying, or adultery. Most Christians believe that the Sabbath was replaced by Sunday, which they call the Lord’s Day, in honor of Jesus’ resurrection. But the Bible never says that. In fact, Sunday observance didn't begin until after the New Testament was written. It started with Christians in Rome and Alexandria and spread after Emperor Constantine’s Sunday law in 321 AD. Numerous people have claimed to be prophets throughout history with tragic consequences. For example, Jim Jones claimed to be a prophet with a divine mission. However, he ordered 900 people to drink a cyanide-laced drink that led to their immediate death in 1978. David Koresh claimed to be the final prophet of the Branch Davidians. Unfortunately, under his leadership, 86 people died in a standoff between the Branch Davidians and the ATF in 1993. Other professed prophets led their followers to adopt bizarre doctrines that jeopardized salvation. For instance, Charles Taz Russell, the prophet and founder of the Jehovah's Witnesses, rejected the doctrine of the Trinity; and Joseph Smith, the prophet founder of the Mormon Church, claimed that all men have divine natures with the potential to become gods. The Bible gives several warnings about deception and false teachings. In the Gospels, Jesus warned about deceivers coming in His name (Matt. 24:4-5). The apostle Paul warned about "savage wolves" that would speak "perverse things to draw away the disciples after themselves" (Acts 20:29-30). And under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Paul also warned about "deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons" in the last days (1 Tim. 4:1). Consequently, many dangerous teachings have crept into Christianity. Teachings about salvation, which gives believers false security when they're really lost. About the second coming of Jesus Christ, which is setting people up to be deceived by the Antichrist and receive the mark of the beast.
