Mystery Inside an Abandoned Winery: What We Discovered Will Shock You! (Or Not)
In this video, we go on a spooky adventure to explore an abandoned winery. While there, we discover some hidden secrets (or not-so-hidden secrets), encounter some creepy critters, and ultimately have a lot of fun!
If you're looking for a fun and spooky adventure, then check out this video! We go on a mystery adventure to explore an abandoned winery and find out all sorts of secrets (or not-so-secrets). From creepy critters to dangerous industrial plants, this video is sure to keep you entertained!
The original Jordan-Ste. Michelle Wines facility, which is currently undergoing demolition, was formerly housed in this abandoned industrial structure.
It was formerly known as Jordan-Danforth wines before becoming Jordan Ste. Michelle.
The Jordan winery opened a second facility in St. Catharines in 1948, which led to the creation of Jordan-Danforth Wines. St. Catharines is where the Danforth wine label was created.
About 100 people were employed at the winery in St. Catharines during its height, and dozens more worked there during harvest. The facility purchased grapes from hundreds of farms in Niagara. After the domestic winery market stagnated in the 1980s, Jordan & Ste-Michelle was bought by rival Niagara Falls T. G. Bright and Co. Ltd., which is now defunct, but it continued to be a major player until 1986.
By 1987, the St. Catharines winery was closed.
Early in 2023 after learning from our friend Ground State Photography that we should check this place out, myself and s0s1nc3r3 made this our final stop on a day full of exploring.
We arrived in good time as the building seemed to be in the process of being demolished.
Once inside, I was reminded of many similar buildings I have enjoyed in the past, it has many similarities to the larger automotive factories in Detroit and the old Massey Ferguson plant in Brantford.
The building had all of the things that make a great industrial location, big metal windows, lots of exposed brick and large decaying stairwells.
We stayed until the sun went down and within just a few days the building was mostly gone, I'm unsure of the status today but this was a good location to close off a great day of exploring and locations like this one don't come around too often.

What Happened Here? I Found an Abandoned House WITH POWER On a Tobacco Farm
In this video, I found an abandoned house with power on a tobacco farm. This property is a beautiful and creepy snapshot of the rural American dream gone wrong.
This abandoned house has been sitting on the tobacco farm for years, probably since the tobacco fields were last harvested. The house is in terrible condition, with doors and windows boarded up and vines growing through the broken windows.
This is a really interesting and unique find - I'm sure you'll love watching the video and finding out what happened here!

TWO MURDERS HAPPENED HERE: Abandoned Halfway House and Group Home
In this video, we're going to explore the abandoned Halfway House and Group Home in tragic, freaktography fashion. This location has seen two murders within the past year, and we think it's time you know about them!
If you're interested in urban exploring, or just want to see some shocking, tragic footage, then this video is for you! We'll take you on a tour of these locations, and show you what kind of terrible things can happen when buildings are left to decay and fall into disrepair. Be sure to watch until the very end to find out what really happened in these two tragic murder cases!
Some of the issues that have been documented here in recent months include
- A resident was found tied to a radiator with a knitted blanket.
- Padlocked fire escapes.
- Rodent feces in several places in the kitchen as well as a cockroach infestation.
- No functioning washrooms for more than 30 residents
Documents obtained paint a horrifying picture of neglect, disrepair and disfunction.
Two days before the facility was evacuated, staff from another facility arrived at the home, they found one of the residents tied to a radiator with a knitted blanket. Staff said the resident had been tied up by one of the other residents at the home because he was wandering around all the time.
In 2013 police were called to the group home after a fight had broken out between two residents, a 44 year old man was sent to the hospital in a semi-conscious state, he died a few days later. The 33 year old resident who killed the man was charged with second degree murder.
This was a second fatal altercation at the facility in three years. In November 2010, a 50-year-old resident of the lodge was charged with manslaughter after a 62-year-old housemate died of medical complications following surgery for a broken hip sustained during a fight. A trial found the resident not guilty.
The location is now condemned, boarded off and closed to the public, there is a development proposal for a high rise building on the site that will incorporate the original building into the new complex.

Episode #39 - Cataract Falls Waterfall at Forks of the Credit Provincial Park
In today's waterfall adventure we’re exploring Cataract Falls in the Forks of the Credit Provincial Park in Caledon, Ontario.
Photo Gallery:
https://www.waterfallsontario.com/cataract-falls-waterfall
Located just a stones throw from the small village of Cataract and found inside a provincial park, Cataract Falls is a welcome site to come across while hiking the parks trails.
Getting to the base of the falls can be a challenge, join me as I explore the waterfall from the base, the crest and the ruins that surround this waterfall.
Cataract Falls, also known as Smiths Falls is located where the Credit River spills 21 metres over a 9 meter wide edge of the Niagara Escarpment. The Credit River was named by 17th-century French traders because they would pay the natives for furs a full season in advance.
Just beyond the falls is the Village of Cataract which was a booming village in the 1800s thanks to three local quarries employing 400 men to extract stone that was used in several noteworthy structures, including Toronto's Casa Loma, old City Hall, the Provincial Legislature at Queen's Park and some of the buildings of the University of Toronto.
Cataract Falls waterfall is surrounded by ruins from its days as a source of hydroelectric power..
A sawmill and two grist mills stood on this site, built around 1820, the site was then converted for the production of electricity, called the Cataract Electric Company. The station was purchased by Ontario Hydro before being shut down in the 1940s when it was determined to be too inefficient to continue generating hydroelectric power

Behind the Scenes with Daniel Lanois and Bill Dillon at Grant Avenue Studio
Here are some behind the scenes video clips from my day with two Canadian music legends, Bill Dillon and Daniel Lanois at the legendary Grant Avenue Studio, filming for my Bill Dillon Documentary Project
In the early 1980's, Bill was a well established local musician and Lanois was well on his path to greatness as a highly sought after music producer.
Daniel Lanois was producing the debut solo album by fellow Canadian and founding member of THE BAND, Robbie Robertson and he knew that Bill had just the right guitar sound that was needed for this ground breaking album.
Daniel went to bat for Bill, insisting that they fly him to LA for the sessions. When Robbie heard Bill's playing he was instantly sold and thus started Bill Dillons career as a long time member of Robbie Robertsons recording and touring band and so much more!
Listen to the self-titled debut solo album by Robbie Robertson to familiarize yourself with Bill Dillon and his unique style.

You're about to learn a whole lot about this wonderful man, Bill Dillon who I am getting to know quite well!

Stephen Sahlin on Bob Lanois: The Complete Bob Lanois Documentary Interviews
My name is Dave Conlon, I’m a Canadian photographer and filmmaker and my passion is discovering and exploring abandoned buildings. I run the website freaktography.com.
In the fall of 2021, I learned of a seemingly abandoned cabin in the woods in Waterdown Ontario and after finding out that it and its owner are a major part of local and Canadian music history, I decided to dig deeper and get the whole story.
This story inspired me to shoot and produce my first full length feature documentary film and to tell the story of Bob Lanois, what led him to move into this small remote cabin, and the amazing music, art and creativity that came from it.
Robert Jacques Lanois, known to most as Bob Lanois was born in Gatineau, Quebec on April 4th 1948. His parents were Jill and Guy Lanois.
Bob was the eldest of 4 siblings, Daniel, Ronald and Jocelyne
In 1961, when their parents' marriage ended, Bob, Daniel, Ronald and Jocelyne moved to Hamilton, Ontario with their mother. Bob being the oldest child at 13 years old took on a father role in the family, helping to provide by working jobs at local stores and delivering newspapers at night.
The Lanois Family settled in a family home on Robina Road in Ancaster, Ontario and that is where this story begins.
Between 2007 and 2009 Bob made three trips to Gothenburg Sweden to play and tour with his friends in the band “Big is Less”, including a one week trip to play nightly shows at a club on the island of Bequia.
Here is Stephen Sahlin of Big is Less, from Sweden with a beautiful tribute to Bob.
About Bob Lanois: Snake Road
In Southern Ontario Canada, near the Niagara Escarpment is one of the most scenic roads in the area, Snake Road.
It was here, along Snake Road that Bob Lanois planted his roots in 1988. With his own hands and inventiveness, Bob designed and built his own cabin, “The Shack” as he called it.
Bob Lanois’ extraordinary life is told through stories, photos and video footage and interviews by some of Bob's closest friends and collaborators.
- Alan Cross
- Daniel Lanois
- Edgar Breau of Simply Saucer
- Bob Doidge of Grant Avenue Studio
- Paul Langlois of The Tragically Hip
- Rachel Heart
- Tom Wilson
- John-Angus MacDonald & Jack Syperek of The Trews
- Glen Marshall
- And a musical tribute from Sweden by Stephen Sahlin of Big Is Less
From his upbringing as a young boy in Quebec to his family's move to Hamilton and then Ancaster Ontario, Bob Lanois had music in his life from the very beginning.
Starting with the creation of Master Sound Recordings with his brother Daniel in the basement of their mothers home, to the legendary Grant Avenue Studio in Hamilton and then The Bunker and Mule Spinner at Hamilton’s Cotton Factory and his very own Shack Studio, Bob Lanois: Snake Road tells the story of a life well lived, by a man who was loved by so many.
Working on projects with everyone from Emmylou Harris to U2, The Tragically Hip and so many more, Bob Lanois always became a major part of the family of any given project that he was involved in.
In the Fall of 2021, Dave Conlon: Canadian Photographer, Film Maker and owner of the website Freaktography.com learned of a vacant cabin in the woods near Burlington, Ontario.
Upon learning that this cabin was owned and formerly lived in by Canadian artist, musician and sound engineer Bob Lanois, Dave decided to dig in and produce his first ever feature documentary film and to tell the story of Bob Lanois.

When I started the process of getting approvals and doing research for this documentary, Tom Wilson was instrumental in making it happen.
Tom swiftly responded to my random email and quickly got the idea in front of Daniel Lanois and Bob’s partner Margot. Having been close friends and collaborators for over 30 years, Tom has been a wealth of knowledge and great help to me in this process.
In 2005, Bob and Tom recorded “The Shack Recordings - Volume 1” a fantastic collection of songs performed by Tom and Bob, all recorded and produced by Bob.
Tom and I met at the shack to discuss the recording of that album and many other things.

Paul Langlois of The Tragically Hip on Bob Lanois: The Complete Bob Lanois Documentary Interviews
In researching this documentary and familiarizing myself with the work of the Lanois brothers, I noticed a theme of collaboration on several projects from artists such as Emmylou Harris, on her 18th studio album, Wrecking Ball
Bobs name appears on the liner notes for U2’s The Joshua Tree, the 1987 Grammy Album of the Year, produced by Daniel, as well as work with The Tragically Hip who had worked with Daniel as well.
Bob Lanois shot and directed two videos for The Tragically Hip, Grace Too and Greasy Jungle.
Bob also created the stage projection graphics for the Day for Night Tour and he was very good friends with the late Gord Downie.

Bob Lanois was cast in this video as "The Janitor", the final project of Bob's life before he passed away.

Glen Marshall and Bob Lanois were lifelong friends, they met when Bob was running Grant Avenue Studio.
The younger Glen, eager to get his band seen and heard by Bob, convinced him to come out and see his band play live.
This was the start of a lifelong friendship and partnership ultimately resulting in the two partnering on a business venture at The Bunker and The Mule Spinner at The Cotton Factory in Hamilton, Ontario.

I had heard buzz over the years about Grant Avenue Studio and through speaking with friends of Bob and the praise Daniel gives to Bob for building this studio, I had to see it for myself. In-fact, I recorded my narration for this video at Grant Avenue Studio, with Bob Doidge at the controls.

Episode #38 - Onaping Falls Waterfall | Waterfalls of Ontario | Northern Ontario Waterfalls
Onaping Falls, sometimes also known as Onaping High Falls or High Falls, is located in the town of Onaping Falls, west of Sudbury, Ontario.
See the photo gallery here:
https://www.waterfallsontario.com/onaping-falls-waterfall
You’ll be amazed at the landscape here as the Onaping River drops over 150 feet, gliding over a number of cascades and creating quite the spectacle.
As far as hiking goes, the trail itself to the water can be a BIT challenging depending on your skills. If you don’t want to hike, there are lookouts that offer incredible views of the entire waterfall that are easy to access and are wheelchair accessible.
I recently learned that the area around Onaping Falls is a part of the Sudbury Basin, one of the most famous geological features in the world.
A giant meteorite touched down in this area, making an impact crater that dates back to almost 2 billion years ago. While it doesn’t seem like much of a crater now due to erosion and other natural forces, as you drive from Sudbury to the A.Y. Jackson Lookout at Onaping Falls, you cross this crater.
There are testaments to the geological history as well as fragments of the meteorite impact beside the Onaping Falls parking lot.
I really enjoyed my explore of Onaping Falls waterfall, I arrived at a great time of day that allowed me to enjoy the scenery during the late evening, golden hour and sunset.

Mysteries of the Abandoned #12: Body Stain Found in an Abandoned Building | YouTube Shorts
Mysteries of the Abandoned - Part 12
I found a Dead Body Stain in an Abandoned Building
YouTube Shorts
A few years ago. I received a message from someone asking me if I would be interested in exploring an abandoned building where a body was found and there is still a stain where the body was laying.
The person who messaged me was the one who found it, he was doing a safety check on the building and had noticed there were signs that someone had broken in
He went inside with just his cell phone flashlight and when he walked down to the basement level he almost tripped over it.
He showed me a photo from before they removed the body, the deceased person was laying face down, legs straight out and arms tucked under the body, the persons shoulder was pressed up against a post.
When they removed the deceased it had left a perfect imprint of the body and all around it there were dead maggots and decomp spread all around.
As of today the body has still not been identified but it looked as if it was a homeless person and/or a drug overdose.
I had a photo of what the spot looked like right after the body was removed, so I knew what to look for when I got there.
I made my way to the basement and the stain was hardly recognizable from the first angle, but when I moved around to the end where the head was resting, you can make out the shape in the stain.
The floor is still covered with dead maggots, thousands of them. I asked the guy who discovered it how bad it smelled, he said it just smelled "earthy", so this person had likely been there a very long time.

Episode #37: Exploring Fourth Falls Waterfall | Waterfalls of Northern Ontario
Fourth Falls is so far, my farthest and most remote waterfall. Just getting here was a crazy adventure.
I drive a Kia, and a Kia is not known for its clearance and ability to navigate Northern Ontario roads! I plot my coordinates into my Google Maps and start driving, all is going well as I drive the Concession #3.
Google Maps seems to show a road that almost leads directly to the waterfall, but boy was the map wrong!
I turn onto a dirt road from the concession, taking me deep into a forested area, bumps, rocks, potholes, hills, overgrowth that consumes the whole road and even some flooding in parts of the road. If I hit a dead end or a washout, there is nowhere turn around and I have to drive in reverse all the way out.
Even worse, if I bottom out, get stuck or blow a tire, there's no cell phone service to call CAA so I will be stuck walking back to the road to wave down a local with a truck, or find cell service to call for back up!
Slowly, carefully, I navigate this rough terrain where I finally come to a dead end, my GPS says the drive is about another 5 minutes, but the road ends here and I have to walk the rest of the way in.
Fully aware that I am not only deep in black fly country but also bear country, I lather on the bug spray, place a bug net over my head and mount my air horn to my shoulder strap in the event of a run in with Smokey the Bear.
It takes me about 20-30 minutes to hike this rough terrain down a gradual and the steep rocky decline into the forest.
Finally I start to hear the familiar sound of rushing water and just like that, the trail ends and the forest opens up to a vast beautiful rock formation that takes me right into this beautiful natural and wild waterfall, I've finally made it!
I place my gear down, sit on a rock and take this sight in, I am now alone in the most remote and beautiful place I have ever seen, in my entire life! I need to soak in this moment, let it sink in and make the trek in worth it.
Watch the video and I hope I've managed to do the beauty of this waterfall some justice!

Episode #36: Exploring Kap Kig Iwan Falls Waterfall | Waterfalls of Ontario
Kap-Kig-Iwan is a name derived from the Ojibwe phrase for “high falls” or “water running over the edge,”
Kap-Kig-Iwan Provincial park is the home of several waterfalls. The Hell’s Gate Trail includes waterfalls ranging from wide expanses of river with short drops to the roaring main falls. Whitewater rapids connected these special spots and rock steps guide visitors down to the best spots for photos.

This waterfall adventure was my first major waterfall of the summer season and what a great start this was. I often will do quick research of waterfalls in a geographic area before I head out but that research is limited, so getting here I had no idea what I was heading into.
At the parking lot, there are some rapids and a small waterfall, pretty and enjoyable, but nothing mind blowing. However, as you walk the trails you can see another cascade up ahead, so I headed in that direction.
I was quickly in awe of my surroundings and so happy to be here at the large and roaring main waterfall.
Kap-Kig-Iwan Falls is a must-see if you're in the area and the trails, paths, steps and rand rails make it a very easy explore.

Episode #35: Exploring Progreston Falls Waterfall | Waterfalls of Ontario
Progreston Falls is a terraced curtain waterfall located in the Carlisle section of Hamilton, Ontario. It is on private property, and is not easily accessible for viewing unless permission from the owner is obtained.
See my Photo Gallery Here:
https://www.waterfallsontario.com/progreston-falls-waterfall
Its height is 6.7 metres or 22 feet, and its width is 16.5 metres or 54 feet. Progreston Falls is situated in the Bronte Creek near Progreston Road, below a railway bridge, and has a year round flow.
Once known as one of the most active milling spots along the Twelve Mile Creek, the community of Progreston deteriorated rapidly as the twentieth century progressed, and by the 1950s was reduced to a handful of residents and the Bennett feed mill, which stood on the ruins of an older mill.
Progreston was once a manufacturing centre on account of the available water power, but times changed, and a Fire wiped out all of the main mills.
