In this video, I have lots of tips and tricks for catching big rainbow trout. I show how to use soft plastics ice fishing, as well as the effectiveness of rattle baits for calling in fish. All of my soft plastics are paired with UV and glow jig heads. They help the fish see the presentation from farther away, so they come to investigate. Soft plastic minnow imitations, soft plastic spiders, and soft plastic hellgrammites, all work great. I was really surprised by the hellgramites. These might be the best lures for ice fishing. This is a detailed video on how I make UV and glow in the dark jig heads for fishing. I don't use powder paint, but you can if you want. I use cheap dollar store acrylic paint, and UV glow powders, mixed with UV resin. The UV resin makes these jigs more durable than just using powder paint and they glow very bright. I will show you the whole step by step process. I have used these jigs for the past few years to tie twitch jigs for salmon and to use with soft plastics to catch trout ice fishing. Did a quick trip and hit a few different lakes looking for Rainbow Trout and Brook Trout while ice fishing. The ice wasn't really safe on the first lake, so we moved on. I managed to find a few nice rainbow trout using soft plastic spiders. Using soft plastic bugs and insects can work really well for trout. Also tried using prawns for trout. Please hit that 👍 I tied some pumpkin head twitch jigs and they worked. I usually twitch pink and purple jigs for coho and chum salmon, but the black and orange did the trick. My friend Willy had never caught a salmon before, so I took him out and taught him how to twitch jigs for Coho Salmon. I suggested throwing spinners and spoons, but he didn't want to play on easy mode. It's a great technique that works in the rivers around the lower mainland and fraser valley.
