How to Calculate How Many Days of Emergency Food You Have Stored
So you've got a bunch of Mylar-packed long term food and you want to know how many days worth of food it is. Here's the quick and easy method to add it all up. This also works for totaling up your pantry, freeze-dried products, other other pre-packaged goods, just skip the weighing.
To review:
1. look at the product's nutrition facts and multiply Calories per serving by the number of servings to get its total Calories per box/bag
2. look at the total weight, preferably in grams since it's the smallest, most specific unit, and divide Calories by grams to get a Calorie per gram ratio for that food.
3. Weigh your Mylar packed food then subtract the weight of one Mylar bag and one oxygen absorber (typically 18 grams.)
4. Multiply the true weight by the Calories per gram ratio and get the total Calories.
5. Divide the final grand total calorie amount of all your food by your daily Calorie usage to get the number of days. Adult women tend to be around 2000 and men around 2500 for a moderately physically active day.

Is This Best Way to Heat Your House in an Emergency Power Outage - Part 2 - Chafers
Yes. Yes it is. Hate to ruin the ending on only video 2 of this series but this turned out to be the best overall house heating option. We saw what gelled alcohol can do but are these cooking chafer fuel cartridges from Sterno an even better way to heat your house during cold weather when there's a power outage? They're full of the notoriously clean-burning methanol gel, a fuel so clean some people use it to boost/cool car engines. They're definitely a good candidate. Let's run some smell, smoke, and temperature tests and find out!

Is This the Best Way to Heat Your House in an Emergency Power Outage? Part 1
Gelled alcohol is designed for clean burning inside of indoor and outdoor fake fireplace fixtures. The energy density allows it to actually heat your house in a similar way as a real fireplace so I got to wondering. Can I actually use them to heat a portion of a house in case of a cold weather power outage?

Don't let this one slip under your radar! No rust, no sharpening, and NOT sponsored in case you were wondering.
EDIT: I checked and unfortunately the original one shown in this video is no longer for sale basically anywhere but there are decent quality replicas.

Is This the Best Way to Heat Your House in an Emergency Power Outage? Part 3 - Tealight Candles
We're back with another alternative method for heating your home in case of an emergency...or is it? Is wax fuel from small candles an effective, safe way to heat your house in a power outage emergency? For safety reasons I should probably tell you right now that no, it failed horribly so don't do it. The air was virtually unbreathable with vaporized paraffin fumes.

"Dollar" Store Emergency Survival Gear Shopping Haul Challenge - Part 2
We're back at it again with the dollar store raid/shopping haul and I've upped the challenge to $30 this time, mostly because at this "dollar" store almost everything costs above a dollar. In fact, the prices aren't even good. You might as well just be shopping at any random store, in fact. Why do they even put dollar in the name? Anyway, let's see what I came up with!
