So, you think that your engine runs smoothly? Then give it the water test. I'm an old school mechanic, and this is how we test just how well an engine is running.

I decided to make my own motor mounts for my Discovery. All the aftermarket mounts have 8mm studs, but the OE studs are 10mm. We'll mix up some polyurethane and pour our own.

My set of used tires had come from a truck that was improperly lifted. his front end was way out of alignment, and the tires wound up with a choppy tread and wicked bad camber crown. So, I shaved down the crown of the tire, so that I could drive on a flat and round surface. The difference in handling and ride is incredible.

This is a real time stud extraction, from a 1996 manifold. This is the right way to get them out if you want to re-use the manifold. If you need to re-stud your manifolds, then don't risk breaking them off. use this method and you can't go wrong. just be patient and it will pay off handsomely. Let's breath some new life into old, corroded, warped manifolds. If you can recondition and reuse your old manifolds, you'll save a few hundred bucks when building your engine.

let's put the finishing touches on the manifolds, before we install them on the vehicle. I'm using a graphite spray, because graphite does not burn off. I'll post a video in about 6 months to show how well the coating held up.

In this video I show how I torqued the crank bolt on an engine that required a massive amount of force. This can be done in the vehicle, but you'll have to employ this tactic by removing the lower belhousing cover first.

I bought a set of used tires, and they had some bad defects. I wanted to have a shop shave them and make them round and flat again, but so one seems to do this any more. So, I made my own tire shaver.

We are replacing the frame of an F150 that I am giving my son. He had to help fix it, if he wanted it. My good friend, my daughter and my son and I worked together and we replaced the frame, front suspension, brake lines & hoses, brake master cylinder, fuel system, shocks, steering linkage, and a bunch of body parts. We first screwed the panels in place, then welded them, then covered the seams with bondoglass and then painted them. It's now a great running truck with many more years left on it.

When you fix your own vehicles, remember to tighten all the bolts and also to account for all your bolts. If they fall out onto the road, they'll wind up in someone's tire.

Up here in the snowy north, our vehicles rot away in just a few years. So, to delay the death of the frame, we clean off and coat the underside with a commercial undercoating product.

I bought a cheap RV heater to see how well it performs. Watch and see, it does rather well, and I will keep it as a backup source for heating my home.
