Vinnies Tax Appeal - June 2022
My dear brothers and sisters,
I'd like to speak to you briefly about one of our Catholic organizations within Australia and in fact
worldwide. The St Vincent de Paul Society. Many people don't realize that the St Vincent de Paul Society is probably Australia's biggest charity.
They do so much work in housing, looking after those who have no food, Umpteen, umpteen
works. This time they are highlighting the whole area of domestic violence and what they can do to help support people who suffer as a result of domestic violence.
They're making their appeal because they rely heavily on our donations and donations to the Vincent de Paul of course can I just remind you our tax deductible.
So please support this very worthwhile organization that carries out the arm of the Church which reaches out to those in greatest need.
Jesus very clearly made it, at the, one of the one of the main things He talked about is loving each other and helping those in need.
When you do to my brothers and sisters, you do it to me. So my dear brothers and sisters, let's support this very worthwhile organization and a big thank you to so many of you who volunteer to support the work of St Vincent de Paul and the various conferences and in other ways.
God bless you all.

Catholic Mission Support the Mission
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We have a large Diocese with a richness of cultures.
One of the oldest cultures in our Diocesan family is that of our First Nations peoples, our Aboriginal peoples.
Catholic Missions have supported our Parishes that Minister to our Aboriginal people for many years. We are grateful for this help.
Our Aboriginal people can teach us a lot.
However, they are also facing many challenges at the moment.
We are increasing our Pastoral support for these Parishes, most of them remote. An example among others of this is an increase in the number of Priests and Religious Ministering to these communities.
There is also an ageing infrastructure in these areas which needs much-needed repairs, restoration, rebuild.
We are establishing a special appeal for donations to our remote Mission Ministry in our Aboriginal lands. We will do this in partnership with Catholic Mission who do this professionally, linking with their annual propagation of the faith appeal.
‘All money collected’ in this appeal will be used specifically for the needed ministry in remote communities of our Diocese.
I know personally, those of us serving within remote communities, and families living in remote communities will appreciate your diligence around this appeal.
Thank you.

Bishop Charles & Bishop Mykola on ABC Radio in Holy Week
'This is Holy Week and it's about the triumph of love over hatred, the love over evil. It's about hope and we always have hope even if we face the largest challenges.
And that's very much the message of what is this week is all about. Holy Week. That even death is not the end. That there is a loving God who enters with us in our human pain, in our human reality. Jesus was betrayed, let down, he suffered a horrible death, but it wasn't the end and that
God is with us even in these situations.' said Bishop Charles. Listen for more.
Bishop Charles' Easter Message
We are completing Holy Week.
Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter build one onto the other. In the Holy Thursday, Jesus gave us the Eucharist, gave us an example of service to each other.
He went into Gethsemane where he agonized about death, fearful, being challenged so much about what was going to happen and yet still trusting in the Father. On Easter Sunday,
He is alive again.
My dear brothers and sisters, this is not just a historical event, it is, but it's much more than that.
It's about our drama, the drama of our life. We have heard so much in the news recently about the horrible, horrible situation, the evil situation in the Ukraine where people are dying and hurting each other.
We know there are other places in the world like Yemen and many other places where violence is being inflicted by human beings onto each other.
We know that like Jesus, many people are betrayed or let down, maybe some of you.
We know that we have pain in our lives, we'd rather not have.
God became flesh in Jesus Christ to remind us that we are not alone.
That God is faithful and God will never abandon us.
So my dear friends, In this time of Easter, we focus on Christ being with us and the promise, I am with you always, even unto the end of time. We focus on hope regardless of what challenges we face. God is there and we are called to be reminders to each other and to all of this message of hope.
God bless you all.
+Bishop Charles
