Oss Oss Wee Oss! - Padstow - Short Documentary - 1953
Oss Oss Wee Oss! - Short Documentary - 1953
: Padstow, a fishing village on the coast of Cornwall, celebrates May Day with an ancient custom: two osses (hobby-horses) dance through the town streets accompanied by drums and accordions. All Padstownians participate in the event, which has now become a tourist attraction drawing over tens of thousands of annual visitors. Folklorists Alan Lomax and Peter Kennedy and filmmaker George Pickow collected footage at the festival in 1951, producing a pioneering work in the use of sound, low-light photography, and conversational presentation of narrative. A favorite of Margaret Mead, who used it in her classes, the film circulated widely and continues to have influence today, especially in the neo-Pagan community.

May day folk traditions - Padstow Old 'Oss and Torrington May fair - 2019
May day was originally a pagan celebration! In parts of England they have preserved the old pagan customs to this day! This documentary was filmed over the first four days of May 2019 in Padstow, Cornwall and Great Torrington, Devon. These two West-country towns have each preserved their own distinct May celebrations with rituals dating back to pagan times. In Padstow the event is centred around the hobby horse which they refer to as the "Old Oss", whereas in Torrington the Mayfair involves electing a May queen who is sits on a throne beneath the Maypole in the town square. This is a charming insight into the culture of rural England and a way of life that is sadly lost for most British people.

d'Artagnan - Tanz in den Mai - German - 2022
Dancing In May.......
[Verse 1]
Oh, who hasn't experienced it?
That a sound, a look, a smell
What's been forgotten for years
Suddenly waking the soul
Then comes in that pleasant
spring time of forest and rivers
So often reminding and greeting me
That I'm deeply frightened
[Pre-chorus]
And I'm dancing
I'm dancing in, dancing in May
[Chorus]
And I'll be blissfully adrift
So it could last forever
My heart beats boldly and freely
When I dance in, dance in May
And all the old songs
Come on, let's sing them again
Loud and weird, bold and free
When dancing in, dancing in May
[Verse 2]
Songs that inspire the boy
Are dawning in my ear
A dark longing, long since buried
Twitches like lightning in me up
And when the stars shine high
Goes through my mind in a dream
Softly with silent weeping
The lost love goes
[Pre-chorus]
And I'm dancing
I'm dancing in, dancing in May
[Refrain]
And I'll be blissfully adrift
So it could last forever
My heart beats boldly and freely
When I'm dancing in, dancing in May
And all the old songs
Come on, let's sing them again
Loud and weird, bold and free
When dancing in
When dancing in, dancing in May
[Bagpipe solo]
[Post chorus]
When dancing in, dancing in May
[Bridge]
My heart beats bold and free
When dancing in, dancing in May
[Refrain]
And all the old songs
Come on, let's sing them again
Loud and weird, bold and free
When dancing in
When dancing in, dancing in May

d'Artagnan - C'est la vie - English Version - 2023
C'est la vie.........
Courage is being scared to death
But saddling up in anyway
To fight until the final breath
And keep the striking fear at bay
Fear is a reaction
But true bravery is a choice
Saddle up and take the action
Raise your fist and raise your voice
All those who fight will be immortal
Those who stand and those who fall
C'est la vie (Whoa-oh)
Only the brave will heed the call
Death is our companion
And a true friend to us all
But the world will keep on turning
When the night forever falls
For the reaper marks the end of days
The sky is turning black
For us forward is the only way
And there's no turning back
Those who fight will be immortal
Those who stand and those who fall
C'est la vie (Whoa-oh)
Only the brave will heed the call
Our courage is eternal
All for one and one for all
C'est la vie
We'll never fall
We'll never fall
We'll never fall (Whoa-oh)
Those who sail against the storm
To those who fight for evermore
To those who stand up when they fall
Your courage will endure
C'est la vie
All those who fight will be immortal
Those who stand and those who fall
C'est la vie (Whoa-oh)
Only the brave will heed the call
Our courage is eternal
All for one and one for all
C'est la vie (Whoa-oh)
We'll never fall
We'll never fall
C'est la vie (Whoa-oh)
Only the brave will heed the call
Our courage is eternal
All for one and one for all
C'est la vie (Whoa-oh)
We'll never fall
We'll never fall

Faun - Sieben Raben - Acoustic Video - German - 2019
Seven Ravens...........
Seven ravens flew.
They will be my brothers.
They will be my brothers.
Seven songs we sang,
but six were left behind.
Thus only the hope
for a song for a hunt
of lost luck remained.
Seven ravens flew.
They will be my brothers.
They will be my brothers.
We once were seven brothers,
but our father cursed us.
Thus we became a swarm of ravens,
until our faithful sister visits us.
Seven ravens flew.
They will be my brothers.
They will be my brothers.
Seven miles the sister went
all alone in the depth of the night,
until the morning helped her
freeing her brothers from the mountain of glas.
Seven ravens flew.
They will be my brothers.
They will be my...
Seven ravens flew.
They will be my brothers.
They will be my...
Seven ravens flew.
They will be my brothers.
They will be,
they will be my brothers.

Beltane Border Morris - White Ladies Aston - Sidmouth Folk Festival - 2015
Beltane Border Morris dance, White Ladies Aston at the Sidmouth Folk Festival 2015
In the 19th century border morris was a simple form of dance usually performed by men for money. Groups of dancers would tour their local areas in the winter months when there was less work on the land. Border morris was a cadging activity like busking today; the dancers offered entertainment (dance) in return for money. Historical border teams were small, and the music which accompanied the dancing featured much percussion, including instruments such as triangles and drums.
