COMPENSATION FOR FAMILY MEMBERS
When it comes to paying family members in a family-run business, it's important to be fair while still recognizing the unique roles they play. It's essential to make sure that there is no preferential treatment and that all employees are given equal opportunities when it comes to pay and benefits.
At the same time, families bring unique skills and perspectives to the table that can't always be quantified through traditional means. Consider the value of their expertise and versatility when creating a payment structure - this can include factors such as familial loyalty or previous experience with the business operations.
Above all, what matters most is being equitable in your decisions. Treat family members as you would any other employee, considering their individual abilities, interests and qualifications when setting pay scales or providing bonuses. Fairness should always be paramount for both family members and non-family employees for everyone to feel valued!

TUES TRADITION: SOLVE
Be sure about what you want from life and doubly sure of what you must give in return.
ABOUT DARLENE GAGNON
She left home at seventeen.
In an abusive home full of frightening days and nights, she made a radical decision to go it alone. Now, she is an award-winning entrepreneur.
Sometimes, you must die inside to be reborn into your true self.
Leaving corporate America was a risk worth taking, and over a decade later, Darlene ventured to start her own business. She took a step of faith to use her marketing expertise to help business owners build their companies’ brand presence.
As a mother of five, she had big visions of her kids being a part of her business by this time. While this did not come to fruition, Darlene learned the serious “business” of a “family” business.
Darlene Gagnon is an award-winning entrepreneur recognized by the National Association of Women Business Owners and is an Enterprising Women Inspirational Entrepreneur. She served on the board of directors for Entrepreneurs’ Organization and has mentored entrepreneurs and start-ups for over a decade.
Her two companies, WeKinnect Global Branding Agency and Kinetic Promotional Product Services, have been recognized as “Best Places to Work” and “Largest Agency” by American City Business Journal. Both companies serve the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia markets. Most recently, induction to the 1 million dollar club with industry leader iPROMOTEu.
In 2016, her husband became, a business partner Denis Gagnon, a French-Canadian Air Force veteran. The couple’s dynamic partnership has led to business expansion and involvement in philanthropic activities. Exemplifying their passion for supporting the local entrepreneur and protecting local communities.
Darlene’s passion is to rid entrepreneurs of their ongoing guilt or what we call “imposter syndrome.” Her new “360-Entrepreneur” Learning Series will teach entrepreneurs how to learn from the past to better the present. Then make better decisions moving into the future.
She is devoted to giving business owners the tools they need to become more conscious humans, business owners, parents, community leaders, and citizens.
ABOUT THE 360 ENTREPRENEUR
Thus, a 360-degree view of entrepreneurs’ life includes the past, present, and future. We learn from the past to better understand the present and make better decisions moving into the future. Tips, tools, and resources we create via social media posts, vlogs, blogs, ebooks, and other content resources, should feed into the entrepreneur’s self-reflection. It should help them overcome problems that challenge their relationships or business and support optimal decisions to improve their future.
The Past
Presenting a view of the past means providing a meaningful and easily digested view of the entrepreneur’s history. Unfortunately, entrepreneurs forget to reflect on their achievements. Instead, you find they are critical of their mistakes and tend to focus on their “failures.” Our role is to assist the entrepreneur in reflecting, acknowledging their strengths, and viewing their “failures” as opportunities to improve.
The Present
Our thoughts are compelling. Therefore, by changing how we think about our lives and circumstances, we can almost instantly alter the course of our lives. But, how do we help an entrepreneur do this?
How do we get them started? One way is to address unhelpful thinking styles and significantly influence how they interpret the world around them. The tools they need are best practices, experience sharing, and a list of experts to help them control their thoughts and make better decisions.
The 360 Entrepreneur
An entrepreneur who takes a 360-degree view of their lives is what we call a 360-Entrepreneur. There can never be an end to analyzing one’s life; failing to live life intentionally is the ultimate sin. Entrepreneurs must see they have a higher calling than any other individual in business and society. When small business represents 50% of the USA’s and 40% of Canada’s GDP, an entrepreneur’s decisions affect many.
My passion is to rid entrepreneurs of their ongoing guilt or “imposter syndrome.” We will challenge them not to be victims but become victorious over their challenges and obstacles. We will give them the tools they need to become more conscious humans, business owners, parents, community leaders, and citizens.

The 3A's of Entrepreneurship
Three entrepreneurial traits make up the actual DNA of an entrepreneur’s ability to scale and grow their business. We call these the 3A’s of Entrepreneurship: Attitude, Ability, and Aspiration.
Developing these three traits builds confidence and gives you the tools to take the goal in mind for your business (and life) and make it a reality. You’ll go nowhere fast if you don’t know where you’re heading. It’s a lot like getting in a car and expecting to get somewhere without a destination. We will dive into the details of these traits needed to succeed. We will help you rid yourself of “imposter syndrome” and develop a concrete action plan to explore your business goals in-depth, plan for roadblocks, and master the best practices of entrepreneurs; and how to stay on course to reach your
milestones.
Many entrepreneurs engulf themselves in learning but never transform their knowledge into action items to implement. Over a decade of entrepreneurial failures and successes brought this learning session to creation. Now you can avoid the typical pitfalls of entrepreneurs while building a thriving business and life. Building Your Legacy
As an entrepreneur, it's important to understand the difference between reputation and character. While many people use these terms interchangeably, they are two distinct aspects of your personal and professional identity.
Your reputation is what people think of you. It's the perception others have of your behavior, actions, and accomplishments. Your reputation can be influenced by your marketing efforts, social media presence, and networking skills. However, it can also be affected by rumors, gossip, and misinformation.
On the other hand, your character is who you are at your core. It's the sum of your values, beliefs, and behaviors. Your character is not something that can be easily manipulated or changed, and it's not subject to the whims of public opinion.
While your reputation can be valuable in terms of building your brand and attracting customers, it's ultimately your character that will determine your long-term success. A good reputation can only take you so far if your character is lacking in integrity, honesty, and empathy.
So, how can you ensure that your reputation aligns with your character? Here are a few tips:
1. Be intentional about your values. Take time to reflect on what matters most to you and make sure your actions reflect those values.
2. Practice transparency. Be open and honest about your mistakes and shortcomings. This will help build trust with your customers and colleagues.
3. Surround yourself with positive influences. Choose to associate with people who share your values and inspire you to be your best self.
4. Don't be afraid to speak up. If you see something that goes against your values, speak up and take action to address the issue.
5. Continuously work on personal growth. Attend seminars, read books, and engage in personal development activities that help you grow as a person and professional.
Remember, while your reputation is important, it's your character that will ultimately define your legacy. By being intentional about your values, practicing transparency, surrounding yourself with positive influences, speaking up, and focusing on personal growth, you can ensure that your reputation aligns with your true character.

Securing the Legacy: New Priorities for Family Businesses to Thrive in the Modern Era
Family businesses have long been the backbone of the global economy, with many generations working together to build successful enterprises. However, as the world changes rapidly, family businesses must adapt and embrace new priorities to secure their legacy and ensure long-term success. In this blog post, we will explore some key areas that family businesses should focus on to remain competitive and thrive in the modern era.
Embrace Digital Transformation
The digital revolution has transformed how businesses operate; family businesses are no exception. Family businesses must adopt digital technologies that streamline operations, improve communication, and enhance customer experiences to stay relevant and competitive. Investing in e-commerce platforms, utilizing social media for marketing and customer engagement, or implementing cloud-based solutions for better data management and collaboration.
Prioritize Innovation and Adaptability
In today's fast-paced business environment, innovation and adaptability are more important than ever. Family businesses should encourage a culture of continuous learning and experimentation to identify new opportunities and stay ahead of the competition. Explore new markets, develop new products or services, or adopt new business models. By fostering an innovative mindset, family businesses can drive growth and secure their legacy for future generations.
Focus on Talent Development and Succession Planning
One of family businesses' most significant challenges is ensuring a smooth leadership transition from one generation to the next. Family businesses must prioritize talent development and succession planning to secure their legacy. Identify and nurture high-potential individuals within the family and attract external talent when necessary. Providing opportunities for professional development, mentoring, and leadership training can help prepare the next generation of leaders to take the reins and continue the family business's success.
Establish Strong Governance Structures
Effective governance is essential for the long-term success of any business, and family businesses are no exception. Establishing clear governance structures can prevent conflicts, ensure accountability, and provide a framework for decision-making. Businesses might involve creating a board of directors with a mix of family and independent members, developing formal policies and procedures, or setting up family councils to facilitate communication and collaboration among family members.
Foster a Culture of Open Communication
Open communication is critical for building trust and maintaining harmony within a family business. Encouraging honest and transparent dialogue can help to address potential issues before they escalate, promote collaboration, and strengthen relationships among family members. Establishing regular forums for family members to discuss business matters and providing opportunities for informal gatherings and social events can foster a culture of open communication.
Balance Tradition with Modernization
While family businesses must adapt to the changing business landscape, preserving the values and traditions that have contributed to their success is essential. Balancing tradition with modernization can be achieved by maintaining a strong sense of identity and purpose while embracing new ideas and practices that can drive growth and innovation. By doing so, family businesses can stay true to their roots while remaining agile and responsive to market demands.
Family businesses have a unique opportunity to create lasting legacies that span generations. By adopting new priorities such as digital transformation, innovation, talent development, strong governance, open communication, and balancing tradition with modernization, family businesses can secure their legacy and continue to thrive in the modern era. Embracing these strategies will help family businesses remain competitive and ensure their continued success for generations to come.

The Perfectly Imperfect Entrepreneur How to Fight Perfectionism & Thrive Despite Side Effects
Entrepreneurs often grapple with perfectionism, a significant obstacle to success. Too focused on perfecting everything can prevent entrepreneurs from taking risks or innovating and lead to procrastination. Perfectionism can also cause them to struggle with decision-making and waste precious time trying to make something perfect that may never be. Perfectionism can have a devastating effect on one’s life and well-being.
Entrepreneurs can find feelings of anxiety, self-doubt, and low self-esteem. Perfectionism can also cause entrepreneurs to become too focused on achieving perfection that they may neglect other important aspects of their lives, such as their marriage or family. People who struggle with perfectionism often experience burnout from trying to do everything perfectly, which can result in depression.

Marriage Meetings: Anytime -Anywhere
Entrepreneurs should take the lead in having marriage meetings to provide both business and personal updates. With our ever-busy working lives, it can be difficult for spouses who are business partners or married entrepreneurs to stay connected and informed about each other's progress. Marriage meetings offer a meaningful way to stay up to date with each other and reinforce the bond that brought them together as a couple in the first place.
During these meetings, couples can review their business goals and where they stand in achieving them, celebrate successes and new accomplishments, discuss challenges they are facing and strategize solutions to overcome them. In addition, these meetings help strengthen communication, appreciation, trust, and intimacy between partners – qualities essential for any marriage or work relationship.

Recognize Your Moment of Progress
After years of working in corporate America, I finally decided that it was time to take a risk and pursue my dream. I cashed in my retirement savings and used the money to start my own business. It was a daunting task, but I had faith that I would make something of myself. I reached out to everyone I knew to help get the word out about my business. I started by selling promotional products. That picture was my first direct mail to everyone I knew to announce my new business venture. There those boxes were put together with my children helping and stacked on my fireplace mantel. 😊 Eventually friends I knew were asking for my expertise in marketing and graphic design. Thus, two businesses began to form.
And before long, what started as an idea turned into something real that made a meaningful impact in people’s lives. Just last week, a project left a client in tears. Tears of happiness because her own branding was coming to life. What a gift she gave me!
As we journey through life, it is important to look at where we have come from to know where we are headed. It is comforting to look back and see how far we have grown, what lessons we have learned and how much progress we have made. Looking back at our past can help us gain perspective on the present and build excitement for the future. We can appreciate each moment of progress, both big and small, knowing that every step of the journey has brought us closer to reaching our goals.

CHRISTMAS FAILURE
I was on autopilot, and all I could think about was not failing. Yet, I was. I can remember several years in a row at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I would get up at 4 a.m. and cook for our entire family and our extended family. I would recruit my kids to join in, and the music would play as we cooked up a storm. But as our family members would arrive and our four tables beautifully set, I would serve the food and then disappear into our bedroom.
I had nothing left to give anyone. I was mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausted. I made every holiday as memorable as I could for everyone but myself.
For everyone, delicious delights, my husband, and his father personally served dinner at their favorite spots at the table each time. But my strive for perfection left me empty.

The subconscious mind can be a powerful force and must be kept in check to ensure proper functioning of the conscious mind. Our thoughts and feelings affect our behavior, which means we must strive to maintain an awareness of what our subconscious is up to.
To achieve this, it is essential to practice mindfulness techniques such as meditation, self-reflection, deep breathing, and gratitude journaling. Additionally, getting regular exercise and eating a healthy diet can also help regulate your subconscious as these activities encourage the release of helpful hormones and chemicals that can help keep your emotions in check. With dedication and effort, you can find control over your subconscious and live a healthier life.

VULNERABILITY
Hey there, fearless innovators! Ever considered the power of vulnerability? It's a question worth asking.
Vulnerability is not a sign of weakness but a badge of courage. It's like standing in the arena, stripped of all armor, ready to face any challenge head-on. It's about being genuine, authentic, and open to possibilities.
Remember that time when you had your first business idea? You were vulnerable. But that didn't stop you. It was your courage that turned that idea into reality.
This day, let's embrace our vulnerability. Let's see it as our strength, our courage. Because when we do, we open ourselves up to growth, learning, and endless possibilities. Ready to step into the arena?
