Soon May The Wellerman Come - Guitar - Sea Shanty
Soon May the Wellerman come is a sea shanty. It`s also known as The Wellerman or just Wellerman. The captain crew and all are out hunting the whale. This one is packed full of action, adventure and suspense! Will the whale be caught? I play here on the guitar in the fingerpicking style while singing it. I have a banjo version posted as well
Soon May the Wellerman Come - lyrics
Fingerpicking guitar version
There once was a ship that put to sea,
And the name of the ship was the Billy of Tea
The winds blew up, her bow dipped low,
Oh blow, my bully boys, blow.
Soon may the Wellerman come
And bring us sugar and tea and rum.
One day, when the tonguing is done,
I'll take my leave and go.
She had not been two weeks from shore
When down on her right a whale bore.
The captain called all hands and swore
He'd take that whale in tow.
Soon may the Wellerman come
And bring us sugar and tea and rum.
One day, when the tonguing is done,
I'll take my leave and go.
Before the boat had hit the water
The whale's tail came up and caught her.
All hands to the side harpooned and fought her
When she dived down below.
Soon may the Wellerman come
And bring us sugar and tea and rum.
One day, when the tonguing is done,
I'll take my leave and go.
No line was cut, no whale was freed;
The Captain's mind was not of greed,
But he belonged to the whaleman's creed;
She took the ship in tow.
Soon may the Wellerman come
And bring us sugar and tea and rum.
One day, when the tonguing is done,
I'll take my leave and go.
For forty days, or even more,
The line went slack, then tight once more.
All boats were lost, there were only four
But still the whale did go.
Soon may the Wellerman come
And bring us sugar and tea and rum.
One day, when the tonguing is done,
I'll take my leave and go.
As far as I've heard, the fight's still on;
The line's not cut and the whale's not gone.
The Wellerman makes his regular call
To encourage the Captain, crew, and all.
Soon may the Wellerman come
And bring us sugar and tea and rum.
One day, when the tonguing is done,
I'll take my leave and go.

Go Tell Aunt Rhody - Banjo with Intro
(0:45 to skip intro): Go Tell Aunt Rhody, also known as Aunt Rhody is a well know traditional folk song. I play it on mountain banjo, two finger index lead and kind of sad like after a short intro.
Go Tell Aunt Rhody - Traditional - lyrics
performed by: Dan D. Dirges
Go tell Aunt Rhody,
Go tell Aunt Rhody,
Go tell Aunt Rhody
The old gray goose is dead.
The one she's been saving,
The one she's been saving,
The one she's been saving
To make a feather bed.
The goslings are mourning,
The goslings are mourning,
The goslings are mourning,
Because their mother's dead.
The old gander's weeping,
The old gander's weeping,
The old gander's weeping,
Because his wife is dead.
She died in the mill pond,
She died in the mill pond,
She died in the mill pond
From standing on her head.
Go tell Aunt Rhody,
Go tell Aunt Rhody,
Go tell Aunt Rhody
The old gray goose is dead.

Frankie and Albert - Two Finger Banjo - Murder Ballad
Frankie and Albert is a folk song. Also known as Frankie and Johnny. It`s a murder ballad. I played it on the mountain banjo, two finger thumb lead cause my clawhammer is in for repairs. I`ll post a guitar version too. Nora Brown absolutely kills this song and my version though a little different is heavily inspired from hers. She has a couple versions posted. One outside with the birds chirping and another in a Brooklyn church which might even be better.
Frankie and Albert - lyrics
Banjo tuning: F# DEAD (relative)
Frankie and Albert were sweethearts, everybody knows
She spent a hundred dollars for Albert`s a suit of clothes
He was her man but he done her wrong
Frankie went to the barroom, didn`t buy no beer
Said Mr. Bartender has my Albert been here
He was her man but he done her wrong
Now I ain`t gonna tell no stories
I ain`t gonna tell no lies
Albert was here an hour ago with a girl called Nelly Bly
He was your man but he done you wrong
Frankie went out walking, didn`t go for fun
Underneath her little red coat she had a forty one
She killed her man, cause he done her wrong
She came up to the house, didn`t make no sound
Looking thru the window glass, saw Albert in Nelly`s arms
He was her man but he done her wrong
First time she shot him he staggered, second time she shot him he fell
Third time she shot him he fell back on his heel
He was her man but he done her wrong
Roll me over doctor, roll me nice and slow
Roll me on my left side, my right side hurts me so
I was her man but I done her wrong
Frankie went out walking, late one Summer`s night
Judge said to Frankie you`re gonna be justified
You killed your man, but he done you wrong

Hark the herald angels sing - lyrics
performed by Dan D. Dirges
Banjo in standard tuning only tuned down to D
Clawhammer banjo or Two finger banjo
Sing and pick out the melody at the same time
1) Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled
Joyful all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With angelic host proclaim
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
2) Christ by highest heaven adored
Christ, the everlasting Lord
Late in time behold He'll come
Offspring of a Virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
3) Hail, the heaven born Prince of Peace
Hail, the Son of Righteousness
Light and life to all He brings
Risen with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King

Eldorado - Edgar Allan Poe Poem - Original music - Guitar & Vocal
Eldorado is a poem by Edgar Allan Poe. I put music to it. I sing and play it fingerpicking style on a classical guitar. I guess this is sort of a collab with Edgar and me.
Eldorado
(Poem by Edgar Allan Poe)
(Music by Dan D. Dirges)
Gaily bedight,
A gallant knight,
In sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long,
Singing a song,
In search of Eldorado.
But he grew old-
This knight so bold-
And o'er his heart a shadow
Fell as he found
No spot of ground
That looked like Eldorado.
And, as his strength
Failed him at length,
He met a pilgrim shadow-
"Shadow," said he,
"Where can it be-
This land of Eldorado?"
"Over the Mountains
Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,"
The shade replied-
"If you seek for Eldorado!"
And, as his strength
Failed him at length,
He met a pilgrim shadow-
"Shadow," said he,
"Where can it be-
This land of Eldorado?"

There Is A Happy Land Far Far Away - Folk Song Spiritual - Clawhammer Banjo & Vocal
There Is A Happy Land Far Far Away, also known as, There Is A Happy Land is a spiritual. I play and sing it on a mountain banjo in the clawhammer banjo style.
There Is a Happy Land - lyrics
Andrew Young, 1838
Copyright: Public Domain
Main subject: Heaven
Scripture: Psalm 149:5; Revelation 21:4
Banjo in standard tuning only way down to the key of B
performed and arranged by Dan D. Dirges
There is a happy land, far, far away,
Where saints in glory stand, bright, bright as day;
Oh, how they sweetly sing, worthy is our Savior King,
Loud let His praises ring, praise, praise for aye.
Come to that happy land, come, come away;
Why will you doubting stand, why still delay?
Oh, we shall happy be, when from sin and sorrow free,
Lord, we shall live with Thee, blest, blest for aye.
Bright, in that happy land, beams every eye;
Kept by a Father’s hand, love cannot die;
Oh, then to glory run; be a crown and kingdom won;
And, bright, bright above the sun, we reign for aye.
There is a happy land, Come to that happy land
Oh, we shall happy be, when from sin and sorrow free,
Lord, we shall live with Thee, blest, blest for aye.
----------
Revelation 21:4
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Young Edwin in the Lowlands Low - Celtic Ballad - Vocal & Guitar
Young Edwin in the Lowlands Low is a Celtic Folk ballad probably from England, Scotland or Ireland. Other names for this song are, Young Emma, Edwin, Edwin In the Lowlands Low and Edwin In the Lowlands. I sing and play it on acoustic guitar in a fingerpicking style. I added a Valhalla supermassive reverb but hopefully I didn`t overdo it. Lyrics and chords below
Young Edwin in the Lowlands Low - lyrics
Guitar chords - Intro: Am Em C F AM / Verses: Am Em Am G F Am | C Gsus4 Am Em G | Am Em Am G F Am
Come, all you wild, young people
And listen to the song
That I will sing concerning gold,
Which guides so many wrong.
Young Emma was a servant-maid
And loved a sailor bold,
He ploughed the main much gold to gain,
For his Love, as we've been told.
Young Emma she did daily mourn
Since Edwin first did roam;
When seven long years were past and gone,
Then Edwin hailed his home.
He went unto young Emma's house
The store of gold to show,
Which he had gained upon the main
Above the Lowlands Low.
Her father kept a public inn,
It stood down by the sea.
Says Emma, 'You can enter in
And there this night can be.
I'll meet you in the morning,
Don't let my parents know,
Your name it is young Edwin
That ploughed the Lowlands Low.'
As Emma she lay sleeping
She had a frightful dream,
She dreamt her Love stood weeping,
His blood poured in a stream.
She rose up in the morning
And to her friends did go,
Because she loved him dearly;
That ploughed the Lowlands Low.
'Oh, mother, where's the stranger lad,
Came here last night to stay?'
'Oh, he is dead, no tales can tell;'
Her father he did say.
'Then father, oh cruel father,
You will die a public show
For murdering my Edwin,
That ploughed the Lowlands Low.
The fishes of the ocean
Swim o'er my lover's breast,
His body rolls in motion,
I hope his soul`s at rest,
How cruel were my parents
To prove his overthrow,
And take the gold from one so bold
That ploughed the Lowlands Low.

Black Jack Davey lyric
clawhammer banjo
Black Jack Davey went a riding
Through the woods
Singing songs so gaily.
He sang so loud
He made the wild woods ring
And he charmed the heart of a lady
Charmed the heart of a wife.
The old man came a riding
Home that night
Asking for his lady
The servant spoke before he thought.
"She's gone with the black Jack Davey.
She's gone with the Gypsy boy."
Well, saddle for me my big black horse,
My hundred dollar saddle
Show to me the way they went
And after them I'll travel.
After them I'll ride.
He rode and he rode to the mdinight moon
Till he saw a campfire gleaming
He heard the sound of a big guitar,
And the voice of his lady singing
A song of the Gypsy boy.
Will you forsake your house and home?
Will you forsake your baby?
Will you forsake your husband dear,
To go with the black Jack Davey
To go with the Gypsy boy.
Yes I'll forsake my house and home,
And I'll forsake my baby.
And I'll forsake my husband dear,
To sing with the black Jack Davey,
Lie with the black Jack Davey,
Love the black Jack Davey.
Squeeze the black Jack Davey.
I'll lie in the mud and the rain.

You Ain`t Going Nowhere / Bob Dylan cover
You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere is a song written by Bob Dylan. I sing and play it on guitar.
You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere - lyrics
WRITTEN BY: BOB DYLAN
Clouds so swift
Rain won’t lift
Gate won’t close
Railings froze
Get your mind off wintertime
You ain’t goin’ nowhere
Whoo-ee! Ride me high
Tomorrow’s the day
My bride’s gonna come
Oh, oh, are we gonna fly
Down in the easy chair!
I don’t care
How many letters they sent
Morning came and morning went
Pick up your money
And pack up your tent
You ain’t goin’ nowhere
Whoo-ee! Ride me high
Tomorrow’s the day
My bride’s gonna come
Oh, oh, are we gonna fly
Down in the easy chair!
Buy me a flute
And a gun that shoots
Tailgates and substitutes
Strap yourself
To the tree with roots
You ain’t goin’ nowhere
Whoo-ee! Ride me high
Tomorrow’s the day
My bride’s gonna come
Oh, oh, are we gonna fly
Down in the easy chair!
Genghis Khan
He could not keep
All his kings
Supplied with sleep
We’ll climb that hill no matter how steep
When we get up to it
Whoo-ee! Ride me high
Tomorrow’s the day
My bride’s gonna come
Oh, oh, are we gonna fly
Down in the easy chair!

Hard Ain`t It Hard Folk Song, Guitar
Hard and it’s hard is an American traditional folk song. It was a big hit during the bluegrass and early country music era. I sing and play it on guitar using kind of a Carter scratch right hand technique after a short intro. Lyrics posted below if you want to sing along. Just jump in and hang on.
Hard and it’s hard - Traditional Lyrics
There is a place in this old town
And that’s where my true love hangs around
She takes other men right down on her knee
An tells them a tale that she won’t tell me
It’s hard and it’s hard ain’t it hard
To love one that never will love you
It’s hard ain’t it hard ain`t it hard great God
To love one that never will be true
First time I seen my true love
SHe was standing by my door
The last time I saw her false hearted face
She was laying down dead on the coolin’ board
It’s hard and it’s hard ain’t it hard
To love one that never will love you
It’s hard ain’t it hard ain`t it hard great God
To love one that never will be true
Don’t go to drinkin’ and to gambling
Don’t go there your sorrows to down
This hard-liquor place is a low-down disgrace
The meanest damn place in this town
It’s hard and it’s hard ain’t it hard
To love one that never will love you
It’s hard ain’t it hard ain`t it hard sweet Jesus
To love one that never will be true

Rock Salt and Nails - A Utah Phillips Brooding & Forlorn Love Ballad, Drop D Guitar Tuning & Vocal
Rock Salt and Nails is a song written by one of the greatest songwriters that most of the world has sadly never heard of, Utah Phillips. Right after he wrote it He realized he didn`t want to record or sing it in concert for personal reasons that are unclear. Possibly has something to do with the last two lines in the song I`m guessing. However his close friend, Rosalie Sorrells did record it and she did a great job. Tyler Childers also did an excellent job with this song. I sing and play it here on the guitar in Drop D Tuning.
Rock Salt & Nails
Written by Bruce `Utah` Phillips
Performed and arranged by Dan D. Dirges
On the banks of the river
Where the willows hang down
And the wild birds all warble
With a low moaning sound
Down in the hollow
Where the water runs cold
It was there i first listened
To the lies that you told
Now i lie on my bed
And i see your sweet face
The past i remember
Time cannot erase
The letter you wrote me
It was written in shame
And i know that your conscience
Still echo's my name
Now the nights are so long
Lord sorrow runs deep
And nothing is worse
Than a night without sleep
I'll walk out alone
And look at the sky
To empty to sing to lonesome to cry
If the ladies were blackbirds
And the ladies were thrushes
I'd lie there for hours
In the chilly cold marshes
If the ladies were squirrel's
With high bushy tails
I'd fill up my shotgun
With rock salt and nails

Black Came the Night - Dark Moody Dirge in Drop D Tuning, Thumb Strum Guitar
Black Came The Night is a song I wrote. It`s sort of a dark dirge like love song I guess. This time I play in drop D tuning on guitar only I`m tuned down a whole step to C. Simple thumb strum guitar technique.
Black Came The Night
Written and Performed by
Dan D. Dirges
Blue blue turned the soul
Red red fell the rain
Black black came the night
But I`ll still be loving you
Until the stars burn out
And the sun burns out
Until the heavens burn out
I`ll still be loving you
I saw the oceans freeze
And the rivers freeze
I felt your heart deep freeze
But I`ll still be loving you
I hear you found someone new
A diamond ring he gave to you
You`ve forgotten you and me
But I`ll still be loving you
Dead roses for your grave
I`ll lay over your grave
I`ll weep over you grave
And I`ll still be loving you
Blue blue turned the soul
Red red fell the rain
Black black came the night
But I`ll still be loving you
I will still be loving you

Banks Of the Ohio, Clawhammer Banjo, Folk Song, Tragic Murder Ballad, Complete lyrics
Banks Of The Ohio is a timeless classic Traditional folk song murder ballad. She would not marry him so he tragically murdered her down by the banks of the Ohio. I sing and play it on the mountain banjo, clawhammer style. Johnny Cash, Doc Watson, Olivia Newton John all played this song so great as well as many others. Woody, one of my Cats decided to take a Cat nap while I was playing. He got bored and walked out about half way thru. Coincidently that`s about the same as my audience retention rate on YouTube. lol
Banks Of The Ohio Complete lyrics
Thumb strum or fingerpick guitar
Banjo standard tuning relative C sharp is best
I asked my love to take a walk,
Just a little way's with me.
And as we walked,
Then we would talk
All about our wedding day.
[Chorus]
And only say that you'll be mine
And in no other's arms entwine,
Down beside where the waters flow,
Down by the banks of the Ohio
I held a knife against her breast
As into my arms she pressed
She said oh Willie, don’t you murder me
I’m unprepared for eternity
I took her by her lilly white hand,
And drug her down the banks of sand,
I shoved her in
Where she would drown,
And watched her as she floated down.
[Chorus]
I wondered home between twelve and one,
Thinkin', Lord, what a deed I've done;
I'd killed the girl
I love, you see,
Because she would not marry me.
The very next day, at half past four,
The sheriff came a-knockin` at my door;
He said, "Young man,
Don't try to run.
You're gonna have to pay for this crime you've done."
[Chorus]

Black Waters - Easy Guitar, Folk Song
Black Waters is a song I think Jean Ritchie wrote. I discovered this song thru the Jim Ringer and Mary McCaslin version. This song reminds me very much of John Prine`s song, Paradise. My version is played on the guitar in Drop D Tuning a half step lower. A simple thumb strumb pattern.
Black Waters - lyrics
Jean Ritchie, Jim RInger Mary McCaslin
Guitar thumb strum in Drop D tuning (C sharp)
Well I come from the mountains, Kentucky's my home
Where the wild deer and black bear so lately did roam
By the cool rushing waterfall the wildflowers dream
And through every green valley, there runs a clear stream
Now there's scenes of destruction on every hand
And only black waters run down through my land
Sad scenes of destruction on every hand
Black waters, black waters, run down through my land
Well, the quail, she's a pretty bird and she sings a sweet tongue
In the roots of tall timber she nests with her young
The the hillside explodes with the dynamites roar
And the voice of the small bird is heard there no more
And the mountain comes a sliding so awful and grand
And the flooding black waters rise over my land
Sad scenes of destruction on every hand
Black waters, black waters, run down through my land
In the coming of springtime we planted our corn
In the ending of springtime we buried our son
In the summer come a nice man saying everything's fine
My employer just requires a way to his mine
Then they tore down my mountain and covered my corn
Now the grave on the hillside 's a mile deeper down
And the man stands a talking with his hat in his hand
While the poison black waters rise over my land
Sad scenes of destruction on every hand
Black waters, black waters, run down through my land
Well I ain't got no money, not much of a home
I own my own land, but my land's not my own
But, if I had ten million, somewheres thereabout
Well, I'd buy Perry county and throw them all out
And just sit down on the banks with my bait and my can
And watch the clear waters run down through my land
Well, wouldn't that be just like the old promised land?
Black waters, black waters no more in my land
Black waters, black waters no more in my land

Paradise \ John Prine cover in Drop D Tuning \ Guitar
Paradise is a song written by John Prine off his first album. I played it in Drop D Tuning (actually in C a whole step down) to make it a little different. Lyrics below if you want to sing along.
Paradise Lyrics
[Verse 1]
When I was a child my family would travel
Down to Western Kentucky where my parents were born
And there's a backwards old town that's often remembered
So many times that my memories are worn
[Chorus]
And Daddy, won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County?
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry, my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
[Verse 2]
Well, sometimes we'd travel right down the Green River
To the abandoned old prison down by Airdrie Hill
Where the air smelled like snakes we'd shoot with our pistols
But empty pop bottles was all we would kill
[Chorus]
And Daddy, won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County?
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
[Verse 3]
Then the coal company came with the world's largest shovel
And they tortured the timber and stripped all the land
Well, they dug for their coal till the land was forsaken
Then they wrote it all down as the progress of man
[Chorus]
And Daddy, won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County?
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
[Verse 4]
When I die, let my ashes float down the Green River
Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester Dam
I'll be halfway to Heaven with Paradise waitin'
Just five miles away from wherever I am

When First Unto This Country / Traditional Folk Song / Guitar
When First Unto This Country is an American Civil War traditional folk song. This is an easy thumb strumming guitar version. I think I`ll be playing more in this style going forward. It`s funner, easier and I think it sounds better.
When First Unto This Country - lyrics
Traditional Folk Song
When first unto this country a stranger I came,
I courted a fair maid and Nancy was her name.
I courted her for love, and her love I didnt obtain,
Can you think I've any reason or right to complain.
I rode to see my Nancy, I rode both day and night,
I courted dearest Nancy, my own heart's true delight.
I rode to see my Nancy, I rode both night and day,
I stole a fine stallion from Captain Charles Grey {Till I stole a fine grey horse, from Captain William White)
The sheriff's men had followed and overtaken me,
They carted me away to the penitentiary.
They opened up the door and then they shoved me in,
They cleared off my head and they shaved off my chin.
They beat me and they banged me and they fed me on dry beans,
Till I wished to my own soul, I'd never been a thief.
With my hands in my pockets and my cap put on so bold,
With my coat of many colors, like Jacob of old.
When first unto this country a stranger I came,
I courted a fair maid and Nancy was her name.

One By One / Clawhammer Banjo & Vocal
One By One is a song I wrote on guitar. I worked up this banjo version I hope you like. Clawhammer banjo and vocal.
Life, fleeting as the wind, sacred as fire, ancient as the earth, frozen back in time
Each must travel all alone down eternity road searching for a sign, searching for a sign
And we come, one by one, and we rise, one by one, and we fall, one by one
And no one knows where we go from here, no, no one knows, no one knows
Shadows play upon the stage but only for a day, then back into the grave
Back into the night, broken wings in flight, we return into dust, we return into dust
And we come, one by one, and we rise, one by one, and we fall, one by one
And no one knows where we go from here, no, no one knows, no one knows
Come let us live now, for no one knows how, how long that we have, or how this came about
The magic that we see, its so hard to believe, the mystery that surrounds, the mystery that surrounds
And we come, one by one, and we rise, one by one, and we fall, one by one
And no one knows where we go from here, no, no one knows, no one knows

Going Down That Road Feeling Bad / Folk Song / Old Time Guitar
Going Down That Road Feeling Bad traditional American folk song - Two Finger Old Time Guitar - lyrics
I`m going down that road feeling bad
I`m going down that road feeling bad
I`m going down that road I`m feeling sad Lord Lord
And I aint gonna be treated this a-way
I`m going where the climate suits my clothes
I`m going where the climate suits my clothes
I`m going where the soul is free to roam Lord Lord
And I aint gonna be treated this a-way
I`m going where the water tastes like wine
I`m going where the water tastes like wine
I`m going to leave these worries far behind Lord Lord
And I aint gonna be treated this a-way
Your two dollar shoe hurts my feet
Your two dollar shoe hurts my feet
I need a ten dollar shoe to fit my feet Lord Lord
And I aint gonna be treated this a-way
I`m down in the jail I`m on my knees
I`m down in the jail I`m on my knees
I`m down in the jail come set me free Lord Lord
And I aint gonna be treated this a-way
They feed me on corn bread and beans
They feed me on corn bread and beans
I`m down in the jail I`m on my knees
And I ain't a-gonna be treated this a-way
I`m going down that road feeling bad
I`m going down that road feeling bad
I`m going down that road I won`t be sad no more
And I aint gonna be treated this a-way
No I aint gonna be treated this a-way

Who Broke The Lock On The Henhouse Door - Funny Folk Song - Guitar
Who Broke the Lock on the Hen House Door is a traditional American folk song. Who doesnt love funny songs about Chickens. Here is one of the best.
I play it on guitar - Two Finger Thumb Lead. Hope you sing along with me. Lyrics below
I rode right up to that farmers gate
Blew my horn both long and late
The farmers dog he wouldn`t bark nor bite
But the dammed old thing he could read and write
Who broke the lock? I don't know
Who broke the lock on the hen house door?
I'll find out before I go
Who broke the lock on the hen house door
Said the barnyard hen to rooster out west
You`re the one that I love you best
Rooster to the hen, you`re a pop-eyed liar
I caught you in the alley with a ole shanghai
Who broke the lock? I don't know
Who broke the lock on the hen house door?
I'll find out before I go
Who broke the lock on the hen house door
I was down in the hen house on my knees
I thought I heard a chicken sneeze
It was nothing but a rooster saying his prayers
Thanking the Lord for the hens upstairs
Who broke the lock? I don't know
Who broke the lock on the hen house door?
I'll find out before I go
Who broke the lock on the hen house door
Who broke the lock on the hen house door
