45. The Origin of the Pharisees
About 95% of Christians get this stuff wrong. Was Jesus extra-hard on the Pharisees? Are Pharisees basically the same as Sadducees? Were the Pharisees part of the crowd who put Jesus to death? The answer to all of those questions is actually “no.” There are a lot of misconceptions about the Pharisees, which we’re going to bring some clarity to on today’s episode. Something else we’ll discuss: where do Pharisees even come from? You see them all over the New Testament, but they’re never around in the Old Testament, so they must have sprung up sometime between the Testaments. But why? You’ll find all that out today on the Cross References podcast.

43. Can You Name It and Claim It? The Ezekiel series, part 19 (12:21-13:7)
I love praying the promises of God. But before we do that, let’s make sure we’re praying things that God has actually promised. For example, just about every Christian has Jeremiah 29:11 somewhere in their house, but does it apply to us today? And can you really, as some say, name it and claim it? Maybe you’ve heard the phrase before that God said it, I believe it, and that settles it. But does that really settle it? You’ll find out the answer to all those questions today on the Cross References podcast.

41. We Don’t Talk About Ezekiel: The Ezekiel series, part 18 (12:1-20)
Theologian Dr. Michael Brown says the only reason we like the prophets is that they are dead. If they were alive, we’d probably be trying to kill them. I hope that’s not true but it’s such a profound thought. Would we have listened to the Biblical prophets or would we have despised them if they were alive today? We’ll discuss that idea today on the Cross References Podcast.

38. How can Hell be Fair?
The average life expectancy in America is 77 to 78 years years. It’s not that long in the scope of eternity. And yet, for a short lifetime of sins, an unbeliever has to spend forever and ever in hell. How can that be fair? This is a question Christians have wrestled with for the past 2,000 years, and one that we’ll do our best to make sense of today on the Cross References podcast.

28. The Second Horseman of the Apocalypse
At one time we thought civilization had finally achieved world peace, that the days of constant warfare and conquering and death were behind us. Then WWI happened. Then we said that’s enough, that the bloodshed was too great, that we would never let such a thing take place ever again. Then there was WWII. And again we said, “the cost is too high. Civilized countries such as ourselves should never allow such a slaughter of life anymore. The days of one country invading another country to conquer it are finally behind us.” And then just earlier this year, Russia invaded Ukraine. When will wars and rumors of wars finally end? Well, if you read your Bible, you know the answer to that question: they won’t. In 1969, the great American philosopher Edwin Star posed this question; “war, war, what is it good for?” The answer is that it is absolutely good for somethin’, and you’ll find out what that is today on the Cross References Podcast.
