A LOT of things I do here is different from what "the majority " does. I have to be super efficient. I grow a lot of food that feeds me year around and also gets shared with family and friends. This is my method of planting butternut squash. This year I have tree mulch from the electric company trimmings. Any organic mulch is fine. Old hay, straw, pine needles, etc. Pile it on thick!

This is how I plant my tomatoes. I've not seen others do it this way, but it has worked perfectly for me for years, so I continue to do it.

THERE WILL BE A SEQUEL TO THIS VIDEO! This small section of Fence was situated in a way that I could not demonstrate how to use your chain and come-along to hang fence...so I did it just by using the fence stretching tool. After I get the corners and ends welded I will show how to do that - which is what you will do on longer stretches of fence sections that will have a lot more tension. It's basically the same, but I want to show you how to separate each strand as you work so that you maintain tension on the fence.

Sharing a few things that make my life easier on the farm, especially as spring and summer roll in.

Addendum to setting posts...some clarifications and additional things I left out.

This shows how to set your end, corner and/or center braces the "old fashion " way. This was the way I learned long ago, and is how I have done it from the very beginning. Yes, I've also used "quickcrete" in places on some projects, but when I don't have the money to spend on supplies or I've got posts that I absolutely want to make sure they WILL NOT MOVE, this is how I do it. (Such as posts that a gate will hang from.) Tried and true, it's also a low budget method.

WHAT you intend to have inside your fence will dictate the type of Fence you need. Also, your avaliable resources plays into it, generally speaking. My general focus on making these videos is to show those who don't necessarily have unlimited financial resources how they can accomplish what they want. Definitely, where there's a will, there's a way. This video covers some different types of fence and also posts which are necessary for corners and ends. If you know what you want and need, you will be able to get busy finding it! I will do a separate video to cover the tools you need in order to build your fence. That way, if you see something at a yard sale or flea market, you know what it is and can grab it. Or, you may need to borrow tools.

Some really important things to keep in mind about "making something happen" when you (seem to not have) resources. It's not about wishful thinking. It's more of a way of life to work toward.

This is part A (because I had to divide the file size) Sorry for the technical limitations. Whether it's a small space for chickens or a desire to fence an area for goats or cows, etc., you need supplies. I started with nothing but a desire to have a working farm, but bit by bit it has come together beautifully! The higher your standards and the more passionate your desire to build your dreams, the better your dream will form out ahead of you! I start with a couple words of wisdom, then get into the story of how I personally got things done. My hope is that my story will inspire you to dream big, and blast past what anyone else thinks or what APPEARS to be impossibilities. Just do it! Keep in mind that I DO NOT OWN THIS FARM! This calf's mamma just doesn't make milk. Charlie, a little heifer, got just enough milk to survive, but not grow. She had a really rough start. Her owner has done me so many favors, so I have taken her in so I can give her what she needs to grow into her potential. It takes them a little time to come out of the "starvation mode", and she's just about there. She will grow well... It's all about nutrition, and good feed. She and Angus make good companions.

An update on little Angus. He's 6 weeks old. Learned a few things, changed a few things around.

6 May 2022 (Mother's Day): Little Nina was born! She was MooMoo's first calf, and she was born a very strong little girl! Here she is battling her legs so she can get her first meal.

Little Angus had a very rough start. He was brought to me the day after he was born to see if I could save him. He was blind and deaf - likely the result of birth trauma. He's 3 weeks old in this video and he's had some challenges. Still working through a mystery challenge, but there's some good information on dealing with scours.
