Before IBM: History of Typewriters and Adding Machines (Computers pt. 2)
Hate doing your taxes? So did Blaise Pascal. Have you ever wanted to throw your computer out the window? So did William Bouroughs. Do you hate when your friends badger you about details on your latest tech purchase? So did Mark Twain. Are you a working girl, rolling in that 9 to 5 office lifestyle? Meet your trailblazing ancestors, the "typewriter girls" of the of the early twentieth century. All of these people and more led to the creation of IBM, the tech giant whose logo is emblazed all over the modern office. In this episode of the Answer Archive, we look at the stories of the people and companies who invented modern data calculation and storage through adding machines and typewriters.

A Brief History of: The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire 1911 (Short Documentary)
Todays Plainly Difficult disaster documentary looks at The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in the Greenwich Village neighbourhood of Manhattan, New York City, on March 25, 1911.
It was the deadliest industrial disaster in the history of New York, and one of the deadliest in U.S. history.
The event would show the dangers of Capitalism and change US workers rights for the better, but sadly would cost 146 lives.

On Tuesday, October 4th, 2022, country music legend Loretta Lynn passed away in the comfort of her remarkable Tennessee home. Known for creating hit singles like “You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man)” and the classic, “Coal Miner’s Daughter” – this icon released dozens of albums throughout her life and earned three Grammy Awards to go along with her 6-decade career in the industry. But over the past few years, a series of health issues including a stroke in 2017 would bring her performing career to a close and largely confine Loretta to inside the walls of her longtime home – an estate located in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee that has come to be known simply as “Loretta Lynn’s Ranch”.
