LaFollete TN~City council candidate retaliates on two officers for supporting the opposition
Monty Miller and Brian Tiller’s lawsuit names the City of LaFollette, the City Council and city administrator Stan Foust as defendants. They claim civil rights violations including first amendment protected speech and right to due process occurred ahead of their dismissals last year.
They were fired following an investigation by Knoxville Attorney Celeste Herbert, who was hired by the city to investigate a complaint by Sgt. Charles Duff.
The complaint claimed Miller, who supported Tiller as the next Chief of Police, reported that Wallen had abused his authority by fixing a speeding ticket for a female friend in 2019 and 2020 and fabricating stories against other ranking officers.
They argue that the city violated its own termination process and their right to due process was violated because they were unaware they were under investigation. The lawsuit seeks a jury trial, an undisclosed amount of monetary relief, and reasonable attorney’s fees.

Castle Rock CO~ School bus driver slams on brakes to "teach a lesson"
A Colorado school bus driver faces 30 counts of child abuse after he braked hard in an apparent attempt to teach students on the bus a lesson, according to school and court records.
Brian Fitzgerald, 61, had recently started driving for the Douglas County School District when the incident occurred the afternoon of March 1, 2023.
In camera footage from inside the bus, released by the school district, the driver can be heard telling Castle Rock Elementary School students to be in their seats before saying, "You guys want to see how dangerous that is?"
The students are then seen being thrown against the seats in front of them after the driver appeared to abruptly hit the brakes while driving around 9 mph.
"Did you get that?" the driver then says. "That's why you need to be in your seat. Turn around and sit down properly."
The surprised students can be heard saying "Why would he do that?" and asking each other if they are OK. One student can be seen taking out a cellphone and calling someone to report what happened, saying, "The bus driver hit the brakes, and somebody got hurt so badly and is, like, bleeding on the cheek."
Later, the bus camera video captures the driver telling a parent that he is a substitute bus driver and that he was "trying to get them to get in their seats."
"I was coming to a stop and I hit the brakes hard because they weren't, they were not listening. So, I'm sorry if she got hurt," he said.
A misdemeanor complaint was filed against Fitzgerald on April 12 that includes 29 charges of child abuse with no injury and one count of child abuse with bodily injuries, online court records show. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on May 12.
Fitzgerald declined to comment to ABC News at this time, citing the pending case.
In a letter to the school district dated March 1, obtained by KRDO, Fitzgerald apologized for his actions and expressed concerns about what he described as "a repetitive historical pattern of improper student management" on the bus he was driving that day.
"I am sincerely sorry for my choice of actions today in my efforts of training students," the letter stated. "I am still 100% responsible for my actions in trying to both educate and control students on the bus. Being a new driver, I did not make the best decision and if I were able to redo what I did I would rethink my decisions."
The Douglas County School District hired Fitzgerald as a bus driver in October 2022 and he had finished his training days before the March 1 incident, according to internal school records reviewed by KRDO. He had previously only driven special education students before being asked to fill in on a route and drive a general education bus for the first time on March 1, according to the records. An investigation found that he "did brake check" the students while approaching a stop sign, according to the records obtained by KRDO.
A Douglas County School District spokesperson confirmed to ABC News that Fitzgerald is no longer with the school district. Thanks to parents and the principal who reported the incident, the school district was able to "take swift action and ensure this driver was never again allowed behind the wheel of a [district] bus," the spokesperson, Paula Hans, said in a statement.
"The video is incredibly difficult to watch. Riding a bus to and from school should be a happy, enjoyable experience for students," Hans said. "The behavior and actions of this bus driver are completely unacceptable."

Nashville TN~Representative Campbell resigns amid discrimination & harassment allegations
Update since original airing:
Campbell sent a statement to News Channel 11 late Thursday
“I apologize to my family, my friends, and those who misunderstood my intentions. I am honored to have been able to represent the people of Northeast Tennessee and am proud of the good things we were able to do for Tennesseans. “
Scotty Campbell
A Northeast Tennessee lawmaker has resigned after a bipartisan state subcommittee found he violated the General Assembly’s policy on workplace discrimination and harassment.
A memorandum from the House Workplace Discrimination and Harassment Subcommittee found that Representative Scotty Campbell (R-Mountain City) violated the policy. The memorandum, dated March 29, states the subcommittee met after receiving a complaint against Campbell.
Speaker Sexton said he had received a resignation letter from Campbell, which was accepted.
Campbell represents Johnson County along with parts of Carter, Hawkins and Sullivan Counties.
“Based upon the completed staff investigation, the Ethics Subcommittee finds that Representative Campbell violated the Policy,” the memorandum states.
The memorandum, which was sent to Sexton, contained no further details related to the complaint or the complainant. It also states that “discrimination and harassment in any form will not be tolerated.”
The General Assembly’s Policy on Workplace Discrimination and Harassment states that any member who engages in discrimination, harassment or retaliation of any kind “is subject to corrective action.” Examples of prohibited conduct listed in the policy included the creation of a hostile work environment, sexual harassment and retaliation.

Shrewsbury UK ~Paramedic stole cash from collapsed 94-year-old
A paramedic stole cash from a 94-year-old patient after being called to her aid when she collapsed in her garden.
Mark Titley, 58, was caught on camera pocketing about £60 from a box after entering the patient's home in Shrewsbury on 29 June 2022.
He was one of four paramedics called to the address on Torrin Drive, with the patient dying a short while later.
At Shrewsbury Crown Court on Tuesday, Titley, of Linley Avenue, Pontesbury, admitted theft.
He was handed an 18-week suspended jail sentence and ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and pay costs of £530 as well as a £187 victim surcharge.
'Sick to my stomach'
West Mercia Police said Titley, a paramedic with West Midlands Ambulance Service, was called to the patient's address after she collapsed in the garden.
She lived alone and died after about 20 minutes of receiving CPR and advanced life support.
Titley, who has since retired as a paramedic, entered her home searching for a Do Not Resuscitate form, officers said, when he came across a plastic box containing cash.
Unaware he was being filmed, he was recorded counting the notes and placing about £60 in his trouser pocket.
He returned the cash after spotting the camera, police said, and later claimed he planned to give the money to family members for them to secure.
The victim's son said he felt "sick to my stomach" when he saw the footage.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said Titley was no longer a serving paramedic and was stood down as soon as it was made aware of the incident.
"Our staff will be horrified that one of their former colleagues would do something like this," said chief ambulance officer Nathan Hudson.
"We hold a position of trust when we enter someone's home and these sorts of actions rightly put a stain on all of our reputations which is deeply regrettable and makes it much harder for staff who are still working."
