The past week and a half have been a blur to say the least. This is one of the many small projects that I worked on in this time. We are upcycling Ice Cream buckets in this video. Since planters cost so much and I need a TON of them. I am taking many different items that were meant for other things that did not work out and getting those to be the planters in our garden. I hope you enjoy!

My goal is to yes, have a homestead, well at least as much as I can have on 2 acres of land. There is a hope and a plan to buy more land, we are just not there yet.
As most know by now my day starts out at 4:30 AM during the week and about 5:30 AM on the weekends (We can thank my dogs for the latter part). This week was misc. Items that needed to get done, and more food preservation. Oh and Lucky Charms…….
We are continuously working on the garden, the greenhouse area and the passageway garden. I plan on those being in videos all on their own, once the majority of the work is completed.

Goldenrod
Let’s go on an adventure, either in your own backyard, or into the woods. To look for that beautiful tiny little yellow flower growing from long stalks of green. This would be Goldenrod, most people think of this as just a roadside weed, but as we discussed in the Medicinal Herbal series it is so much more.
Not only is this a great herb to make tinctures and salves with but also a great one to keep in your witchy stash to help with Money Spells or Divination work.
Onto the details:
Folk Names: Aaron’s Rod, Blue Mountain Tea, Goldruthe, Gonea Tea, Sweet Scented Goldenrod, Solidago, Verg d’ Or, Wound Weed, Woundwort
Gender: Feminine
Planet: Venus
Element: Air
Deitie(s):
N/A
Powers: Money, Divination
Uses:
Goldenrod is used to bring money into one's life. Use this to enhance a spell for wealth or good fortune when going into that job interview you want to crush.
If Goldenrod suddenly pops up next to your door or close to your porch, good fortune is near.
You can burn goldenrod while doing divination work, or anoint an amulet with goldenrod oil. (Normally you will need to make this yourself, I have not seen any for sale, but it is super easy)
Collect Goldenrod preferably not directly from the street, but also ask permission if you see it on someone's property. Place it in a paper bag to get it home (it can have a crazy amount of gnats) once home you will want to wash it outside, then hang it upside down to dry in a new paper bag (the bag is really only for gnat control, dude I am serious, they love this stuff). Or you can pop it in a dehydrator or alcohol to make a tincture, any of these methods should keep the gnats out of the house.
Cover the dried herb with olive oil, and either set in the sun for 4 - 6 weeks, steep in a double boiler for roughly 1 - 2 hours or place the dried herb in the crock pot, cover with oil (make sure NOT to put on the lid) set to low for 1 - 4 hours keeping an eye on the oil. The longer it steeps in the oil the stronger the properties, however the times do have a limit you do not want to burn the herbs or the oil.

Goldenrod
The leaves and flowers of Goldenrod are used for its medicinal properties. Goldenrod usually grows wild in the summer and can be harvested closer to fall. This amazing “weed” has such amazing medicinal properties. One of the ones I am liking the best is that it helps with allergens, specifically when there is an allergic reaction to cats. This herb also helps to heal yeast infections that can cause thrush, as well as the yeast infections that can be caused by the allergic reaction to cats. Let's dive in and see what else this can be used for and how we would use it.
Key Constituents
Saponins - Anti Fungal
Diterpenes
Phenolic Glucosides
Acetylenes
Cinnamates
Flavonoids
Tannins
Hydroxybenzoates
Inulin
Key Actions
Antioxidant
Diuretic
Astringent
Anti-Inflammatory
Key Preparations
Standard Infusion
4-8 ounces 3 times a day
Salve
Dried Flowers 1:4 ratio, oil or salve) appl 2 - 3 times a day
Tincture
Made with Fresh Flowers: 1:2 ratio, 95% Alcohol) Dried Flowers 1:5 Ratio, 50% Alcohol. 2-4 ml (0.4 - 0.8 tsp.) 1-4 times a day
Parts Used
Aerial Parts
How to grow
In my area 6b Goldenrod grows everywhere and is a plant that has always grown here. So I don’t have to plant it. I just need to go out to my back yard or across the street to harvest it.
Beware, though it does not attract pests normally, it does now. So, when I harvest this, I see a ton of those little midget gnats. Just clean it up outside and try to get rid of as many as you can. Then immediately put it in the dehydrator, freeze dryer, or alcohol for tinctures. If you are going to naturally dry it I recommend wrapping it in a paper bag, so those little buggers do not overtake your house.
You can purchase this seed online, and it is truly simple
In Early Spring or Fall, place the seeds on the ground, or you can even toss them. Do not cover the seeds, they need sunlight to germinate, then water a little, and that is it. Do not fertilize them or you may see less flowers when they go to bloom. (I would suggest pots, or somewhere you can maintain some form of control as they are pretty aggressive.

I have water bath canned everything up to this point. That I think I have a great handle on. However, I have never pressure canned anything before......................... I mean seriously, my grandmother always told me that it could explode and kill me, so I just didn't do it.
Well I finally got the courage to try............... And it kinda worked and no one died so that is a bonus. I had generic lids and they did not want to seal on about half the stuff I did.
I also forgot to film the pressure canner because I was that nervous about using it. But since I had to order more lids I get to do a whole week of canning yet again.
We are not perfect at everything we try to do. Failure keeps us on our toes and learning. So, this video is dedicated to learning and screwing it all up. Cheers!

Ginger
Gender: Masculine
Planet: Mars
Element: Fire
Deitie(s):
None, however it is associated with the High Priestess in the Tarot Deck
Powers: Love, Money, Success, Power
Ginger is a warming herb, which can be understood by looking at the planet and the element. This is taken from the fact that Ginger heats up your body, and promotes the circulatory system to function properly.
In magic this herb is used in Love, money, success, and power spells. It can help in pretty much any spell as it will lend power. It can also be used as a tea or decoction before meditation when concentrating on the High Priestess card.
I have scoured all of my books, I have been all over the interwebs and I noticed that a lot of stuff out there on ginger was literally identical, y'all even the words used. Since ginger is a bit spicy, let's spice this up and be a little different, cause well, ya know I am who I am. And since it is Fall when I am creating this, let's play on that.
Let's say you have a night alone with your significant other and you would like to spice things up and have just a magical evening together. Grab the Ginger and let's set off of creating this magical evening.
Picture this:
Enchanting music playing in the background (Nifty youtube video I found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJLaTSjnd9Q&t=1680s)
A ginger and carrot soup on the stove (Link to a great recipe: https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/carrot_ginger_soup/ )
The wind is blowing outside. Pumpkin spice or apple spice candles glowing on the table. So now the air has a mix of the spice of Ginger, the sweetness of carrots as well as topped off by pumpkin or apple and maybe some cinnamon.
You and your partner sit down to a magical dinner with all the smells, music and lighting for a magical village. Get ready for a night filled with deep conversation that can touch one's soul.

Ahhh! Ginger, the smell alone sends me to a fantasy world where I can see fields of flowers surrounded by a massive tree line. Yeah, I am an odd one, but that is what I think of when I smell ginger, especially fresh ginger.
Most of us have seen ginger in the store, but don’t know that we can easily grow this in any climate. Start it in a pot, have it outside in the summer and bring it indoors in the fall for winter. I am using my pop up greenhouse, which I will link below. The reason it is in my greenhouse is I have 5 cats, who will just destroy it indoors.
This year I did grow my own and it turned out amazing. Buying fresh ginger at the store is one thing, but truly fresh ginger straight out of the ground has an even better smell. But onto the important information about ginger!
Key Constituents
Volatile oil (1-3%)
Zingiberene
Oleoresin 4-7.5%
Gingerol, shogaols
Key Actions
Anti-Inflammatory - Arthritis (Dilute 5 drops essential oil into 20 drops of carrier oil then apply to area), muscle ache, can replace aspirin
Circulatory stimulant - Just like it sounds the juice can be used topically to help with cold sores, or as a remedy for chilblains and poor circulation taken as a devotion or a tincture
Antiemetic - can be taken as a dry pill, decoction or tincture for morning sickness, and motion sickness
Antiviral - Raw form
Digestive Stimulant
Key Preparations
Decoction
0.25 - 1.0 g in 150 ml boiled water, three times a day
Powder
0.25 - 1.0 g three times daily
Tincture
1.25 - 5.0 ml, three times a day
Parts Used
Rhizome Dried or Fresh
Rhizome = Root
How to Grow
I ordered my starts from Rare Seeds, however, when I gathered what I grew this year, I collected some new starts from the plants I had grown. Since they are perennials they are much like perennial bulbs and they will continue to produce starts, so you can use those each year to get new starts
I would plant this in pots for multiple reasons
I planted in the ground this year, and the roots go way deeper than you think, it was pretty difficult getting all the rhizomes out of the ground without hurting any of it.
With a pot you can just tip it over and it would be much simpler
It will be easier to save your new starts without damaging them
You can bring them inside to keep growing, or place them in a greenhouse to overwinter them.
They need a more airy loamy soil, as this also makes it easier to harvest the root when you are ready to.
I grew 5 plants this year, and it took me about a half of a day to dig them up, get them cleaned, save the starts and package the rest for processing later. Plan ahead!
You will need a soil that is specifically made for growing in pots as this will give the correct nutrients to the plant. From here watch it grow in all its prettiness.

Hello and Welcome to the front porch transformation!
So what happened was…………………………… We gave our dogs access to the front yard and well that did not go well. They tore up everything that was here and we were left with weeds all over. We moved the invisible fence to closer to the porch just in case one got out the front door. But, now they no longer have access. And the best part about this is now, I can start working on getting our front yard to be a NO MOW front yard.
This is the beginning of that journey. Please stay tuned for more projects that will be happening for the no mow front yard. Everything will be usable for either food or medicine and of course pollinators.

The Witchy Side: Turmeric

Rumble: https://rumble.com/account/content?type=all
TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@bleighve?lang=en
Turmeric
This one is going to be a bit different. I have looked in all my books, scoured the interwebs and have found very little on the magical properties of Turmeric. Most of the information out there is about the medicinal uses for this amazing root. And they are plentiful. Currently I do grow Turmeric in my garden however where I am at this is not going to be a perennial.
If we look at the color of Turmeric and its origins, mainly in China and India, and how the cultures have used the plant (I won’t go to much into detail as I really don’t want to make any ancient gods or goddesses angry by getting something wrong) I will go with my instinct on how we can use this herb in our own craft.
Turmeric is something that most of us have in our kitchens, it is just one of those herbs you see in the store and grab because most people have this in the kitchen. But what we don’t realize when we grab it is that it is not only a very strong herbal remedy, but so much more.
In history one of the many cultures who used and loved this herb worshiped the solar system and the Sun as a Diety. So we can safely assume that the God/Goddess would be a Sun Deity, I would also think since this herb is yellow, and from cultures that worshiped a Sun Deity that its element would be fire. And if you are of Irish/Scottish/ and Nordic descent like I am, then it might also be a bit hot in the food. (Yes, I am not a set my mouth on fire type of person). So if the element is fire, I would assume the herb itself would fall in the Masculine Category.
What does the Sun and Fire make us think about, well for me it is Cleansing, Passion, Strength, Retribution, Protection, Power. Many useful things.
From here how can we use this in our homes for some simple witchcraft? Because you know we don’t really need to make everything super difficult and time consuming right?!?
If you have a set sacred space in your home (Maybe it is even your kitchen) you can sprinkle turmeric around the area for some added protection. If you are going into what could be a dangerous spiritual situation then you can wear a piece that has been blessed or spelled for protection around your neck or in your pocket.
It can be used in a cleansing ritual to help clear out your chakras. It could be used to call on sun deities for ritual. You can use it as a protective stain on your Book of Shadows, and on this note I would not put this into a ritual bath or at least not a lot of it, as it is used to stain clothing, and other things, and will also give your skin a yellow tint, which could possibly be a little distracting. Though I do use this in a paste for the dark circles under my eyes as the yellow counteracts the darkness.
I hope this has helped with how we can use herbs with little information to help us in our spiritual journeys, and has opened eyes on knowing that we don’t always have to be told what something can do. We are very capable beings who are able to trust our instinct and understand that within nature is a world of magic that helps our souls to sing.

Turmeric is one of those kitchen herbs that we stock and use very little depending on the type of food we cook. Turmeric tends to be used mostly in Indian dishes, and just not found in many other types of food. However, Turmeric is such an amazing medicinal herb, even if we just concentrated on its amazing uses on the skin, such as being anti-inflammatory or using it to reduce the darkness under our eyes with a homemade eye cream.
Key Constituents
Curcumin
This constituent is stronger than Vitamin E. When Turmeric is applied to the skin and then it is exposed to sunlight it becomes a very strong antibacterial cream or poultice however you decide to prepare it.
Volatile oil (3-5%) including zingiberene and turmerone
Bitter principles
Resin
Key Actions
Anti-Inflammatory
Curcumin is also what makes this herb anti-inflammatory. By blocking different inflammatory pathways within the body. Known to be taken for Auto- Immune diseases, prevent and treat cancer, and dementia.
Lowers cholesterol levels
Because this herb is known for its ability to lower cholesterol levels, it is taken to help ward off strokes and heart attacks.
Antimicrobial
Anti-platelet (blood thinning)
Through different studies it was found that Turmeric thins the blood and increases bile production and flow, as a protective action on the stomach and liver.
Key Preparations
Decoction
20 grams dried herb or 40 grams fresh herb (or mixture of herbs) to 3 cups (750 ml) of cold water, reduced to about 2 cups (500 ml) after simmering. This will make about 3 - 4 doses
Poultice
Mix the powdered herb with just enough water to make a paste, and apply to the skin three times a day
Powder
Can take 1 tsp with water up to 3 times a day
Tincture
200 grams dried herb or 300 grams fresh herb chopped into small pieces to 1 quart (1 liter) of alcohol - vodka 35-40% alcohol is ideal, though using rum can help hide bad tasting herbs. Cover the herbs in the alcohol and shake well. Place the lid on the jar and store in a cool dark place for 10 - 14 days shaking every 1 - 2 days. After the 14th day, strain the herbs from the alcohol and don’t forget to squeeze any bit of tincture from the herbs themselves that you can. Place this mixture into a clean dark jar and store in a dry cool place. The standard dose is 1 tsp (5 ml) 2 - 3 times a day diluted in 1 tbsp and 1stp of water or fruit juice. This will save for up to two years if stored correctly.

Rosemary
Rosemary is one of those kitchen herbs that most people have. But did you know this was grown way back when and the women who grew it in their windows and garden were thought to be showing their dominance over their household. I don’t see anything wrong with this! Or on the other hand it was said that Rosemary will only grow where the mistress is the master of the house.
Rosemary is used in handfasting ceremonies, at gravesites, on the doorstep, for wreaths that hang on our doors. Rosemary is also used for incense, to help with purification of an area.
In Italy it is said that fairies live in Rosemary and can shapeshift into small snakes. So if you see small snakes around your Rosemary, be careful with them because they may be more fae than snake.
Some of the folk names are: Compass Weed, Dew of the Sea, Elf Leaf, Guardrobe, Incensier, Libanotis (greek) Polar Plant, Sea dew.
The attributes of this herb are
Gender: Masculine
Planet: Sun
Element: Fire
Deitie(s):
Aphrodite: is the Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty. She is normally depicted as a very beautiful woman.
Powers: Protection, Love, Lust, Mental Powers, Exorcism, Purification, Healing, Sleep, Youth
Uses:
Protection: Use Rosemary in a wreath on your door to protect your house, you can use crushed rosemary in a spell bottle to carry with you. You can wear the essential oil as a perfume with the intent of protection. Also can be added to protection spells for a boost.
Love: Rosemary is well known for being used in Handfastings, simply by placing it in the bouquet. Wear rosemary to attract love into your life. Add the herb to a love spell to boost its powers
Lust: Add rosemary essential to your bath to increase your attractiveness to others. Also be careful with this type of spellwork, they can backfire in some really bad ways.
Mental Powers: Burn in an incense or use the essential oil in a warmer when you need to focus, or when you are wanting to open your third eye. This can also be done if you are wanting to clear out your third eye while boosting your mental powers.
Exorcism: Add rosemary to other herbs to use when removing negative energy from your space. If you are new to witchcraft and have attracted something bad to your space, please reach out to someone who has experience with removing it. Sometimes you can make an entity even more angry by trying this on your own.
Purification: Burn rosemary with any or all the other kitchen herbs we have talked about to remove negative energy from your home and purify yourself and your space.
Healing: If you watched the Medicinal Herbal video on Rosemary you will already know that this plant can be used for many different types of healing agents. It is antimicrobial, and an antibacterial. You can also use this herb in rituals for spiritual healing, or help heal chakras that might be scared or damaged due to trauma in your life. I would also suggest therapy.
Sleep: Rosemary is also a Nervine. You can use this in a tincture, or in a tea for a bedtime ritual to help aid in a peaceful and pure night's sleep.
Youth: Since Rosemary is such a healing herb, and help with all types of aches and pains it is not shocking that this can be used in spells and rituals for vitality. No we as witches do not steal youth from small children.

Rosemary
Medicinal Qualities
Rosemary is another kitchen herb that many of us have on our shelves. This is great to use with any pork recipe. I have also used it with Beef and it works just as well. I will be honest, I normally buy my rosemary. Though I do try to grow it every year, and every year so far I have failed. So it is what it is and I will keep trying.
Rosemary can be used as a Tonic, Stimulant, Astringent, Nervine, Anti-Inflammatory, as well as an Antioxidant. People have burned Rosemary for centuries to stimulate focus and help with brain function. It can be used as a Circulatory Stimulant, which helps to raise low blood pressure. Rosemary is also restorative, and is used to help relieve long term stress and chronic illness as well as an Uplifting herb. You can even use this in an oil to help ease sore muscles.
Parts Used:
The part of this plant that is used are the leaves. The leaves are where the majority of all the goodness of this plant is held.
Active Constituents
1-2% borneal, camphene, camphor, cineole
Flavonoids (apigenin, diosmin)
Tannins
Rosmarinic Acid
Diterpenes (including carnosic acid and carnosol)
Planting & Growing:
To start this herb indoors, cover the tray with plastic wrap of a clear dome, it may also be helpful to have a cheap heating mat, as Rosemary likes very warm soil, around 80 Degrees. Place in a sunny window or greenhouse. Plant thickly since it is known for spotty germination
6-12 Hours of sunlight
Sprouts in 14-28 days
Ideal Temperature: 80-90 Degrees F
Seed Depth: Barely Cover
Plant Spacing: 12-24 inches
Frost Hardy: Yes
Warnings:
I was not able to find any warning about Rosemary, except for the normal which is do not ingest the essential unless under the care of a professional.

The Witchy Side: Parsley: The Secrets of the Kitchen Herbs

Parsley
Bright green curly leaves, or a deep green Giant of Italy. Parsley has multiple magical properties from being used in spells for flying from long ago, all the way to helping to prevent drunkenness so you can enjoy your drinks a bit longer. Maybe even add a bit to a Fairy Wine so they are able to enjoy it longer as well. It is also said back in the day that only the Wicked grow Parsley. Well, then so mote it be because I love parsley!
Parsley has gone by different names in the past. And if you have researched witchcraft then you know that many witches back in the day would change the name of the herb so that no one could take their spells. Here are a few of the names that you can equate with Parsley: Devil’s Oatmeal, Percely, Persil, Petersilie, Petroselinum, Rock Parsley.
Something I learned while making sure I had my facts right for this video and the medicinal video, is that the Romans would use Parsley as a garnish not because it was some flare, but to protect the food from contamination.
The attributes of this herb are
Gender: Masculine
Planet: Mercury
Element: Air
Deities(s): Persephone: with the gender being Masculine and the Deity being Feminine this is a very balanced herb
Persephone: Greek Queen of the Underworld, daughter of Demeter and Zeus, tricked into marrying Hades the God of the Underworld, she represents, Spring, and the changing of seasons, since in Greek Mythology the deal made between Hades and Zeus to split her time between her mother and her new husband is what created the seasons. As she is the Goddess of Agriculture and Fertility.
Powers: Lust, Protection, Purification, Prevent Drunkenness, Flying
Uses:
Lust: How do I talk about this without being weird. Lets see, you can add this to a spell or ritual bath to boost your sex drive for your partner, or to make yourself feel more attractive. I again will say do not cast anything like this on another person, Lust is NOT LOVE and if it works I highly doubt it will be a great situation.
Protection: Pop a sprig of Parsley in your pocket or purse and carry it with you when you feel you need a little extra protection but don’t have time to do a full on casting or ritual.
Purification: Parsley can be added to any purification ritual to help boost the spell's effectiveness for cleansing our minds, bodies and souls. If you have this growing in your garden you can set an intention for this spot to help purify you every time you are within reach of the plant.
Prevent Drunkenness: Add a little parsley to your drink, or tuck a sprig behind your ear (you know like we did with flowers when we were little, or maybe we even still do) with a small incantation such as “May I enjoy, and keep my wits, do not let me turn into a ditz”. Still I would practice safe alcohol consumption.
Flying: Again, yes, we know we cannot physically fly without some modern technology. However, Parsley was used in flying spells and ointments back in the day, and is still used now as an ingredient in these items.

This is how one becomes an accidental prepper. So, yes there is a story behind why we have so much red meat. And I learned it is possible to prep this much meat in one day, yet super exhausting.
My goal is to yes, have a homestead, well at least as much as I can have on 2 acres of land. There is a hope and a plan to buy more land, we are just not there yet.
So this is my week all wrapped up into one video. My day starts at 4:30 AM and ends somewhere around 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM (hopefully)
Right now I am working on our garden, since this is our first year here and so many things happened we were not able to have a full garden. I thought documenting this journey would be more fun.
I am also preparing to be doing a Farmer’s Market next year. There is a lot to get done and get planned. Let's do this

Parsley
This bright green perennial/annual herb tends to like cooler temperatures and if you are patient it will even grow in a shade garden. We use this in Salads, as garnish, for flavor in many dishes. Let's dive into how this little plant helps us.
Medicinal Qualities
Parsley is highly nutritious, has a load of vitamins and even minerals. Different parts of the plant help with different areas of the body for example:
Gout: Leaves/Seeds
Rheumatism: Root
Arthritis: Leaves/Seeds
Flatulence: Root
Cystitis: Root
Help stimulate a delayed menstrual cycle: Seeds/Leaves/Roots
Parts Used:
As mentioned previously all parts of this plant can be used for its medicinal properties.
Leaves
Roots
Seeds
Active Constituents
This plant does contain volatile oils consisting of 20% myristicin, 18% apiole, and other terpenes. Flavonoids, phthalides, vitamins A,C,E and K (Giant of Italy - this is also an Annual not a perennial) as well as high levels of iron. Though be careful if using this in an oil form, as it has a great ability to stimulate urine.
Planting & Growing:
Depending on where you are buying your seeds from, the below information can be found on the seed packet or on the website. I use Baker Creek as much as I can. I have found their seed to work the best for me.
Parsley is a cool weather crop, so these can be direct sown in fall or in early spring. If you are not going to direct sow in those time frames, place the seeds in the refrigerator for about 3 weeks before planting, then remove from the fridge and germinate at around 65-70 degrees F.
6-12 Hours of sunlight (Though mine is doing good and gets maybe 3-4 hours a day)
Sprouts in 7- 35 days
Ideal Temperature: 50-70 Degrees F
Seed Depth: Surface Sow
Plant Spacing: 8-12 inches
Frost Hardy: Yes
Warnings:
This herb is perfectly safe to eat as much as you want. Just remember to much of anything can be bad. However, excessive consumption of the seeds is bad as an excessive quantity can be toxic. Do not take the seeds during pregnancy or if suffering from a kidney infection.

Medicinal Herbs: Oregano: The Secrets of the Kitchen Herbs
Oregano
Oregano is another well known cooking herb, especially in Italian dishes. The plant's leaves are small but mighty. And the wonderful thing is, this is a perennial so once you plant it, it will come back year after year.
Medicinal Qualities
Oregano is strongly antiseptic with a great effect on many bacteria and fungi, most notably E. Coli and Candida strains. This herb can be used to treat multiple acute and chronic infections that affect the Gastrointestinal Tract as well as the respiratory tract. Such as dysentery, bronchitis, coughs and tonsillitis.
Dysentery
Bronchitis
Coughs
Tonsillitis
Parts Used:
From this plant we use the flowers and the leaves to add to food, or to make an essential oil. We can also make tinctures out of this but it may just be better to keep eating it in our food. If taken as a medicine then limit this use to a couple of weeks.
Leaves
Flowering Tops
Essential Oil
Active Constituents
Since this herb contains volatile oil consisting of carvacrol, thymol, beta-bisabolene, caryophyllene, linalool, and borneol, tannins, resin sterols and flavonoids it can be made into an essential oil. The DILUTED oil can be used to help with toothaches and painful joints, gently apply to the affected area. DO NOT INGEST the essential oil.
Planting & Growing:
Depending on where you are buying your seeds from, the below information can be found on the seed packet or on the website. I use Baker Creek as much as I can. I have found their seed to work the best for me.
Start seeds indoors, Surface Sow and gently press seeds into soil. Light is required for germination. This herb prefers hot, dry and somewhat alkaline soil. If you want to dry the herb then harvest when flowers are beginning to bloom
8-12 hours of sunlight
Sprouts in 7-14 days
Ideal Temperature: 72-76 Degrees F
Seed Depth: Surface Sow
Plant Spacing: 10 inches
Frost Hardy: Yes
Warnings:
You can eat this herb perfectly safely when pregnant, but it is not advised to use it as a medicine during pregnancy.
When using this herb as a medicine limit use to only a few weeks. There is no clinical dosage available but many studies refer to using a limit of 200 mg a day.

The Witchy Side: Basil
Basil
We cook with this herb all the time, and it is normally one of the first herbs in Spring to produce useful parts in mass quantities. I have not met a person yet who does not like the smell of Basil. Lets get into the properties of Basil and what it can be used for.
Gender: Male
Planet: Mars
Element: Fire
Deities: Vishnu, Erzulie
Vishnu (Holy Basil): Vishnu is the preserver and protector of the universe. His role is to return to the earth in troubled times and restore the balance of good and evil. So far, he has been incarnated nine times, but Hindus believe that he will be reincarnated on last time close to the end of this world.
Erzulie: She is the Goddess of love in Voodoo, to be honest, I would suggest some research on this. I do not know enough about Voodoo to go to in depth on this one.
Powers: Love, Exorcism, Wealth, Flying, Protection
Uses:
Love, Basil can be used in incense to help bring love into your life, sooth tempers between lovers when there is a spat. As well as be used in love spells. But remember no matter how much you want someone to love you, you cannot force this on someone. Love Spells should be put out in the universe to bring love to you, to help you meet your other half, never try to force someone to love you.
Exorcism: Have someone being negative around you, or always trying to bring you down. This is a great herb to use in cleansing rituals, baths, showers, anything. It smells amazing, and it can disperse the negative energy that may be surrounding you. Also if you don’t have any white sage, this can be used as a replacement. But, I suggest growing your own white sage as this is much stronger.
Wealth: Because of the bright green of the plant itself and the abundance in which it grows, it should not be a shock that this herb can be used in spells and incense to help bring wealth into your household. Even growing it can be its own bit of magic.
Protection: Much like for exorcism, this herb can be used in protection spells, or to help seal an area that you would like to use for your religious ceremonies. When you are using this Herb to cleanse yourself or your home of negative energy you can also toss in some wording for protection.
Flying: Since Basil helps with relaxation and aiding the body in de-stressing, it is not a shock that this can be used in flying spells. And for the newbies to witchcraft. I am not talking about physical flying, Though that WOULD BE AWESOME! This is primarily used to help with Astral Travel, and can even be used to help with Physical Travel as well.

Wannabe Homesteading August 1: Trauma Induced Hard Work
Trauma hits us all in different ways. For me, I just end up working even harder than I already do, and yes I know this is not healthy. But this is my response. Make sure to take care of your mental and emotional health, just as much as your physical health.

Medicinal Herbs Basil: Secrets of the Cooking Herbs
Basil
Most of us have used Basil in some form. We tend to cook with it a lot. But we don’t really know what all this kitchen herb is really doing for us as we ingest it, or what it can do for us other than making our dishes taste even better. There are over 150 varieties of Basil in the world. The ones I use the most are Genovese Basil, Emily Basil and Holy Basil. Out of these three, Holy Basil is the best one to use for medicinal purposes. I just love the flavor of Genovese Basil and Emily Basil. And they both do have milder abilities to use in Medicinal Treatments. This is why it is a great idea to incorporate Basil into your cooking, you are getting these benefits without having to make anything extra. Just toss it in and you are good to go!
Medicinal Qualities
Minor Bites, Stings & Swelling
When crushed and made into a paste the juices this plant produces can relieve minor bites, stings, and swelling. It can also be used as a bug repellant. Though I have not tried this one.
Mildly sedative
Basil has many different forms and the majority of them are Mildly Sedative, they can help to relieve anxiety, depression, and difficulty in sleeping.
Basil can also be taken for Epilepsy, migraines, and whooping cough.
Helps with digestion, easing flatulence, stomach cramps, colic and indigestion.
Help increase the production of Breast Milk
Parts Used:
Leaves
Flowering Tops
Essential Oil
Active Constituents
1% Volatile oil consisting of Linalool and methyl chavicol, as well as small amounts of methyl cinnamate, cineole, and other terpenes. Which is why you can make an essential oil out of Basil.
Planting & Growing:
Depending on where you are buying your seeds from, the below information can be found on the seed packet or on the website. I use Baker Creek as much as I can. I have found their seed to work the best for me.
This is a super easy plant to grow and can easily be grown on a windowsill. Well if you don’t have cats. They love this plant.
Depending on the Variety this can be an Annual or a Perennial. Also if you let it go to seed, you will most likely have multiple plants pop up the next year. This is a really hardy plant.
Plant outside if you live in a region with long growing seasons. Start indoors after the First Frost date, then transplant to outside if you have a shorter growing season. I am in Zone 6b so I start mine indoors and then transplant outside.
Basil needs about 8-12 hours of sunlight
Sprouts in 6-10 days
If planting seeds they go ¼ inch deep into the soil
Thrives best in soil temps of 70-85 degrees.
Link in Description
Harvesting
Harvest this plant often, the more you harvest the more it grows. Once it goes to flower it is pretty much done, but you can let it reseed or save the seeds
Warnings: Basil essential oil is not to be taken internally.

Glucosinolates
https://encyclopedia.pub/entry/2515

https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/13880209.2016.1223146
You know that strong odor from sulfur, well that is our next item. This is a Glucosinolate(s). This is a nitrogen containing glycoside that is responsible for giving herbs/plants their pungent scent. Think of Horseradish, Nasturtiums and Mustard. They are so pungent because they contain this Active Constituent.
This is also what occurs naturally in the Brassicaceae family, think, cabbage, mustard, bok choy, broccoli, brussels sprouts. For these foods though it acts as a natural defense system.
Many plants in this family can have an irritant effect on the skin, which can cause blistering. However, if you grind it down and dilute it such as with a poultice it can become helpful for aching joints as it will increase blood flow to the area that it was applied.
Bitters
Bitters are in many different herbs, and they are only linked by the bitter taste of those herbs. This is a group of constituents together that produce this flavor. Most of us do not like bitter things, so we tend to avoid them. Have you ever had just straight, real chocolate, no sugar or dairy added. It is extremely bitter.
This bitterness stimulates secretions of the salivary glands an the digestive organs. Herbs in this group can help stimulate your appetite, and improve the absorption of other nutrients and herbs that you are ingesting.
Herbs within this family are:
Mugwort
Angelica

WARNING: Alkaloid Containing and significant tannin containing plants should never be mixed together directly
Tannins will counteract the actions of the Alkaloids. This is also why tinctures were largely developed. Alkaloids are soluble in Alcohol (Ethanol) but do not do well in water.
The Alkaloid family is pretty large and does a large variety of things. The major groups of Alkaloids are
Tropane
Isoquinoline
Pyridine
Pyrrolizidine
Quinoline
Indole
Purine
The medicinal uses of Alkaloids are anesthetics, cardioprotective, and anti-inflammatory. The most well known are morphine, strychnine, quinine, ephedrine, and nicotine.
Took me a minute but I finally found the common names of the herbs high in Alkaloids
Poppy (Pretty much anything in this family)
Ergot Fungus
Buttercups
Nightshades
Amaryllis
Vitamins
Many herbs contain very useful levels of Vitamins. For example Dog Rose contains high levels of Vitamin C. Most of us learned in either health class or science class that carrots have high levels of beta-carotene. Nasturtiums have good levels of Vitamin B1, B2, C, and E as well as Beta Carotene.
This is a small section simply because there is a long list of herbs on this list and we will get into those in the videos on the herbs themselves.
Minerals
Yes, minerals are also found in herbs, especially the one that we grow organically ourselves. When we grow them ourselves and do not use harsh chemicals that can strip out the mineral content. We are also able to better absorb the mineral content from herbs. The mineral content of a plant is a key factor in the herbs therapeutic activity in the body.
This was very short, as I said before we will go into detail on different herbs and what Vitamins and minerals that they contain.
Our next video we will start with the basic Kitchen Herbs. Since most people have these items in their kitchens.
