The "Voices Of Africa" Choral & Percussion Ensemble

The "Voices Of Africa" Choral & Percussion Ensemble is an African, African American cultural performing arts ensemble established in 1985. The ensemble, based out of Philadelphia, PA, started off as a Children's Ensemble, evolved to an All Women's Ensemble and eventually grew to include dancers and indigenous Africans from West Africa. Nana Baakan Agyiriwah and her 2 daughters, Adwoa Tacheampong and Zakiyyah McKelven were the original core members. Over the years VOA has included many other performing artists from all walks of life. The "Voices Of Africa" Choral & Percussion Ensemble sings a cappella and plays a variety of African percussive instruments such as the sekere (shekere), sakara drum, agogo bell, djembe and sangba drums. VOA has traveled extensively around the continental USA, UK, Ghana, Jamaica, Bolivia, Brazil & Canada. VOA has performed in schools, universities, community centers, churches and a variety music festival venues.
