NASA's overarching mission revolves around leading the way in space exploration, advancing scientific discoveries, and pushing the boundaries of aeronautics research. This ambitious endeavor has engaged thousands of individuals worldwide, both on Earth and in the vast expanse of space itself, for over half a century. Their collective efforts are driven by fundamental inquiries: What lies beyond our planet in the cosmos? How can we traverse these cosmic distances? What treasures and knowledge await us out there? And, crucially, how can these endeavors benefit and enhance life on our home planet, Earth? NASA's undertakings encompass a wide spectrum of activities. These include validating and enhancing flight technologies, establishing the foundations for sustainable exploration, whether by humans or robots, probing the mysteries of our own planet, the solar system, and the limitless universe beyond, spearheading the development of pivotal enabling technologies like the space shuttle, and conducting groundbreaking scientific research within the confines of the International Space Station. With NASA at the forefront, the universe becomes a realm ripe for exploration, where we can unravel its mysteries while gaining a deeper understanding of our own planet, Earth.

Unlike the way the space program started, NASA will not be racing a competitor. Rather, we will build upon the community of industrial, international, and academic partnerships forged for the space station.

NASA’s future will continue to be a story of human exploration, technology, and science. We will go back to the Moon to learn more about what it will take to support human exploration to Mars and beyond. We will continue to nurture the development of a vibrant low-Earth orbit economy that builds on the work done to date by the International Space Station. NASA engineers will develop new technologies to improve air transport at home and meet the challenges of advanced space exploration. Our scientists will work to increase an understanding of our planet and our place in the universe. We will continue to try to answer the question, “Are we alone?”
