We have a homestead and try to do things to become as self-sufficient as possible. Our homestead consists of gardening, foraging, cows, chickens, dogs, canning, building, sawmill, fruit trees, and berries. I do sewing and crafts when I have time. We are a husband and wife with a 5 year old. He keeps us on our toes. We have a total of 9 children and 16 grandchildren currently with 1 more on the way. We live in a rural community with all neighbors half a mile away. So the peace and quiet is really nice. We are a military family and have pride for what our country once was. I was in the National Guard, my daughter is a Marine and my son is a Marine and his wife was in the Army. We believe in God and say our prayers. We aren't perfect and know that we sin daily. Our ranch is located in the Northern Black Hills on the South Dakota/ Wyoming border where my family settled and started ranching in 1883. I work alongside my parents, Jeff and Jodi, our ranch hand, Jaques, and my wife, Damaris who also works as a nurse in town. We have friends and family who come along very frequently as well! We run a cow/calf operation where we summer our cattle on the Black Hills National Forest and winter them in the foothills of the Black Hills. We also have a backgrounding feedlot, and grow alfalfa and grass hay.
