When the Dead King imprisoned Argul, he cast out his tomb so as to cut Argul off from his power. While Argul may no longer be a threat, Frostbane and the threat he presents is alive and well and must be destroyed, hence why Death has been called to arms. After a long chase through the tomb, the Abyssal Creature reveals that Death is wasting his time. Frostbane's soul is not one that can be cast into the Well of Souls, his is an incarnation of the Abyss itself. Nonetheless, after a brutal fight with the dragon creature, Death succeeds in killing it and is given the promised reward by Ostegoth, the Frostforged Twins. He soon encounters an Undead Maker simply known as The Mad Smith. Believing Death to be an assassin sent by the Makers, the two do battle. However, the Maker is able to buy his life at the last moment with the promise of answers for his would be slayer. He explains that eons ago he was imprisoned in the void inside the Tree and that is where they are. However, something else was imprisoned with him, The Abyssal Forge his finest creation. A sentient forge that draws its strength from the Abyss itself, using said power it has forged an army of constructs also powered by the Abyss. Over the eons it in turn can build more Abyssal Forges on other worlds should it escape it's long imprisonment. Realizing that the lock on their prison has been broken by Corruption, the Smith begs Death to help him put an end to his finest creation, lest it threaten creation. In order to reach it safely Death collects a large amount of Chaos Ore for the Smith and using it he makes for him the Mad Smith's Device that allows him to safely cross the toxic waters surrounding the Abyssal Forge's lair. Making his way to the forge, Death meets the Mad construct which confirms the Mad Smith's fears that it plans to rule creation with its progeny, noting that Death is not a Maker but something both demonic and angelic at the same time it demands to know his purpose, to which he states that he's Death. Destroying the construct and returning to the Smith, Death informs him that he intends to leave him in the forge with his broken mind. That said, Death also warns the Smith not to make him regret his mercy. Arriving at whats left of the human race, Death is aided in the fight against several demons by The Hunter, who claims to be the last of humanity, much to his shame. He reluctantly explains that a demon lord named Belial has taken custody of his soul and unless the Hunter does what he says then it will be forever damned in Hell. To this end the Hunter has been responsible for the deaths of the rest of his kind by leading the demons to them. Death decides to hunt down Belial at the Hunter's request. Once in the heart of his territory, Death and the Demon Lord exchange banter. Belial explains that he holds no power over the Hunter's soul, the mere threat was enough to buy his compliance, and doesn't consider the "measly human" a threat. With the banter finished the two enter a grueling fight in which Death is victorious. Death returns to the initially relieved Hunter only to inform the now-mortified human that Belial never held any power over his soul, overwhelmed by the grief the Hunter makes one final request of Death, his death to which the Horseman reluctantly complies.
