Pete and Ellen Morgan have reared Meg as their own ever since her parents took off when she was a baby. Now a teen, Meg convinces her friend Nath Storm to come help with chores on the farm, as Pete isn't getting around so well on his wooden leg. When Nath insists on using a short-cut home through the woods, Pete becomes agitated and warns him of screams in the night, terrors associated with the red house.
