Originally published on YouTube on October 27, 2020 I head out for a #solocamping adventure to do some #tarpcamping in an open field after a night of heavy rain and thunder storms. The #tarpsetup I chose is a basic lean to style with part of the tarp acting as a ground sheet. I really wanted to camp in an open field so that I could have the chance to see some wildlife, especially, deer. My wish was granted and the deer were very curious about my presence. I am not so sure that they were happy that I was still there after nightfall because they kept snorting and barking at me all night keeping me awake. The ground was absolutely saturated and to ensure a successful campfire I used a junk car hood that I found in the area. Despite the rain and a few bugs it was a great time. Freshly returned from vacation up North to New Jersey and Pennsylvania where I was lucky enough to meet with other YouTubers, I am in much need of some woods and a nice campfire. #campinggear #wildcamping #wintercamping I head to the woods near my home and venture in farther than normal to set up camp for the night. Camp is all set, It's time to cook up dinner and keep the fire burning hot! A little chat by the camp fire and the temperature is dropping fast! With temperatures dipping into the low 20s, how much wood will it take to keep warm through the night? Not to worry! The Military Modular Sleep System did it's job and kept me warm all night long. This time I slept on the ground with no sleep pad and woke up with a slightly stiff back. Originally Published on YouTube on August 17, 2018 Alone in deep woods, I return to private land I once visited where I built a shelter and camped over night. This time I am in search of a better spot to build a semi-permanent shelter but realize that the forest is so dense and finding a prime, somewhat open location would be difficult. Planning to use only a hammock and tarp for shelter, I hike in with my Särma TST Recon Pack by Varusteleka. The weight of the pack was 60 pounds and I carried it purely for training purposes. I did not need a pack of that size for this adventure. #outdoorgear #bushcraft #camping After struggling for some time starting a fire due to extremely humid and wet conditions I finally enjoyed a steak cooked on the campfire and had a couple quality beers. Originally published on YouTube on January 23, 2019 In need of a getaway and some woods time, I set out to do an over night camp on private land that I have been to a few times now. There is so much to explore there but with a winter storm on the way I need to get camp set up quickly. For this outing I chose to go with a tarp set up in a tent configuration. This was the very first attempt in this particular tarp set up and I had it up and ready to go within a matter of minutes. It could be a favorite. I wanted to set up camp in an open area so that if it were to snow/rain/sleet I would have a front row seat for it. #wintercamping It is a good thing that I didn't go into the woodland to camp because during the night I heard limb after limb and tree after tree breaking and falling due to the weight of the freezing rain. After cooking a load of #bacon and teriyaki noodles I turn in for a long cold night to the sound of sleet and rain on the #tarpshelter. Originally published on YouTube on April 1, 2020 For a long time I have been struggling with finding the right #bushcraft backpack for carrying my basic gear load. Several types of military assaust packs that I have used over the years proved to not be spacious enough even for a day trip let alone for a one or two day #camping trip. I was always having to attach multiple pouches and strap items to my packs, therefore, adding more weight and discomfort. Recently I began searching for a new bushcraft pack online and I found the bushcraft line by Helikon-Tex. The #MatildaPack by Helikon-Tex has completely solved my storage issues for the basic gear that I carry. The pack is very comfortable and constructed with quality materials. I also added two sides pouches, the Essential Kitbag and the E&E pouch, both made by Helikon-Tex. I am extremely happy with the setup. One more item that I wish to have soon is a good quality down top quilt or sleeping bag that is light weight and packs down small enough to store inside the Matilda pack or just under the lid. I want a quilt or bag that will serve as the one single piece of gear that keeps me warm down to 15° F if not below. That would complete the gear items that I consider to be all I need for any situation. I hope you enjoy this gear review with an overnight campout all in one.
