With the departure of David Tennant, showrunner Russell T Davies also exited to be replaced by Steven Moffat, who had written some of the most beloved episodes of the RTD era. He was not as good a showrunner as he was a writer. Arguably, this heralded a downward spiral similar to the post Davison era. What’s not arguable, unless you are insane, the end of this period marked the end of Doctor Who, at least for the foreseeable future. The Cannon Group, Inc. was an American group of companies, including Cannon Films, which produced films from 1967 to 1994. The extensive group also owned, amongst others, a large international cinema chain and a video film company that invested heavily in the video market, buying the international video rights to several classic film libraries, some of which were Oscar-nominated. Others, not so much. But many of the films we remember from our formidable years were Cannon films. We're going to take a look back with nostalgia … and dread. I know I've talked about the rise of Cable TV on a number of streams, but after last week's retrospective of an influential movie studio, we got to thinking about how a whole platform really shaped entertainment and home theatres. The panel has the moderately rare perspective of having seen the rise of cable, and we sure seem to be seeing the relative fall of it, as well. The firing of Gina Carano is the final straw. Apparently it's okay to make racists tirades on Social Media if you are a female POC, but but you aren't allowed to choose NOT to implicitly gender yourself, as fair and honest questions, or express any kind of wrong-think; that is, as far as Disney is concerned. They are all about diversity ... unless it offends their Chinese patrons. Then we push John Boyega to the side. If you are a woman, you can be abusive to your husband and get all the plumb gigs, while #MeToo means male VICTIMS of abuse lose their careers.
