Steele Creek Church and Cemetery is located in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is the 2nd oldest church in Mecklenburg County. Currently, the Charlotte-Douglass Airport owns the property where this church is located. During my visit(s), I found some graves that are interesting, historical, sad, and tragic. Historic Steele Creek Church and Cemetery (Part 1)
ReallyBigSchuAn incredible church and cemetery founded in the mid-1700s, now sitting on property owned by the Charlotte-Douglass airport! Graves of the original settlers of the area dating back to 1750 all the way up to current day are located here. In Part 1 of this video series, I discuss the history of the church and cemetery and explain why the Charlotte Airport now owns the church property. I also walk through the area of the cemetery that contains the graves of people buried in the mid-1800s. These early graves are incredible... lots of history of the early settlers of this country, some Revolutionary War veterans, sad inscriptions of families, and graves of very young children.
