How to Crochet Part 2 (Slip Stitch, Fasten Off, Ring, US vs UK stitch names) @Weaving Wyrd Studio
Learn to Crochet Part 2 (How to Make a Slip Stitch, Form a Ring, Fasten Off, and Understanding the Differences between USA and UK Stitches)
1. Now that you’ve had time to practice part 1 of this series, you can now move into learning how to do a slip stitch (sl st). Even though Slip stitches (sl st) can be used to create beautiful patterns and fabrics on their own, they are commonly used when you want to avoid adding height to your row and when you want to make a ring.
2. Begin with crocheting a chain stitch (ch) to the desired length.
3. Making a Ring using a slip stitch (sl st).
4. What is a row?
5. Turning your work and making a slip stitch (sl st).
a. After turning your work, insert hook under the second “v” (or in the second stitch from the hook).
b. Yarn over (yo) the hook and pull through the slip stitch (sl st) and the loop on the hook.
c. Repeat
6. Front Loops, Back Loops, and Free loops
a. Front Loop (FL) is the front facing leg of the “v” or stitch.
b. Back Loop (BL) is the back positioned leg of the “v” or stitch.
c. Free Loops are the unworked legs or stitch. This can be a front loop, a back loop, or any unworked (2 legged or “v”) stitch.
7. Fasten Off
8. USA Names/Stitches vs. UK Names/Stitches
a. Chain (ch) Chain (ch)
b. Slip Stitch (sl st / ss) Slip Stitch (sl st /ss )
c. Single Crochet (sc) Double Crochet (dc)
d. Half Double Crochet (hdc) Half Treble Crochet (htr)
e. Double Crochet (dc) Treble Crochet (tr)
f. Treble Crochet (tr) Double Treble Crochet (dtr)
g. Double Treble Crochet (dtr) Triple Treble Crochet (trtr)

How to Crochet Part 1 (Knowing the Basics) @weavingwyrdstudio
Do you have Comments, Questions, or Suggestions??? Let us know in the comments section for this video.
Learn to Crochet Part 1 (Knowing the Basics)
Getting Started
1. Tools and Materials
a. Size G hook
b. Hook Gauge
c. Stitch Markers
d. Worsted weight yarn
e. Scissors
2. Holding the Hook
a. Pencil grip
b. Knife grip
3. Slip Knot
a. Many techniques to make a slip knot…
b. Keep hand relaxed
c. Hold tail of yarn on the hook
d. Tension is important
4. How to Wrap Yarn for Tension
a. This is how I do it
b. Experiment with different techniques to determine what works best for you.
5. Yarn Over (yo)
a. Stitches rely on correct yarn over technique…so while in the future you will encounter stitches that will suggest or require you to bring the yarn to the front of the hook and over the back side (this technique is called Yarn Under (yu), but for now it is important to remember that Yarn Over means for you to wrap the yarn over from the back of the hook to
b. the front of hook.
6. Making a Chain (ch)
a. Beginning a chain starts with a (yo). Catch the yarn and then pull through the loop on the hook. One chain is made each time you do this.
b. For Practice, continue to crochet chains until your stitches are even…not too loose or too tight for your hook size.
7. How to Count Chain (ch) Stitches
a. To count a chain, you must begin at the first chain from the hook.
b. The front of the chain is shaped like a “v”
c. The back of the chain has a ridge running down the length of the chain.
d. You can count the “v” down the front or the ridges down the back.
e. The loop on the hook or the slip knot at the beginning are never counted as a chain
f. Try using a stitch marker every 10th chain (ch) to help keep track of your count particularly if you are making a long chain.
