Lots of commotion on the Internet because congress once again renewed #FISA which allows for 3-Letter agencies to do warrantless surveillance. Supposedly intended for Foreign persons, the reality is that #FISA is used against US persons. But even revoking FISA doesn't change anything since warrantless surveillance happens all the time. Web Encryption (HTTPS/TLS) no longer guarantees us any security or privacy because of the abuse by various stakeholders of the Public Key Infrastructure. Whoever puts a root certificate on your computer can generate a certificate for any website, even fake ones. Well strangely enough Microsoft Root Certificates, which Microsoft calls a "Private Certificate Authority" is on Microsoft Windows, AND on Linux. What's up with this? Basically this empowers Microsoft to do mass surveillance on any machine just about. My warning on End to End Encryption may be a little late now as the UK legislation has actually cleared the UK Parliament and is just awaiting Royal Assent. Then it is done. This will pass the liability for harmful content to the platforms and will pave the way for device content scanning that will override End-to-End encryption. Not theory anymore.
