Dear Pastor Bob: Do I have to have faith like Job to go to Heaven? I know the way is Jesus, but I have been through so much stuff in my life. I battle daily with suicidal thoughts, constant disease, constant PTSD, traumatic brain injury, depression, anxiety, and I wish I would’ve just died in Afghanistan. I feel I have no purpose, and so many ailments that hold me back daily. I try to push through like a good Marine but I hate how I feel every day. My divorce hurt the worst. It’s been two years, and my mental health has plummeted. I struggle getting out of bed every day. God has blessed me with so much, but it’s so hard to live this Christian life and leave all my military mindset in the field. I am filled with hopelessness and stress. Dear Pastor Bob: Some Christians say that if a pastor doesn’t not allow the Holy Spirit to take over a worship service, then he is putting God in a box. They argue that the Church service belongs to God, and not the pastor. They say that many ministers preach sermons that are decided on ahead of time, and that this doesn’t allow the Holy Spirit to move like He should during a service. In other words, some say that we shouldn’t place limits on what God can and cannot do during a worship service. These people also say that a Church service shouldn’t be so organized, and that the pastor and congregation should be open to the Holy Spirit inducing vibrant outpourings such as: falling over, healings-on-the-spot, praying out loud in tongues, casting out demons, etc - even if things get loud. And if any of these elements are missing or forbidden, then they are putting God in a box and limiting God’s power. They argue this isn’t fair to the Holy Spirit. Do you have any thoughts on this? Hello Pastor Bob! I have been watching PBCB for a good few years now and thank you for all the teaching. I am a bit frustrated with my walk.I study the Bible quite a bit and try to pray, etc, but I don't feel that I am changing much.I still get depressed. I am irritable and angry quite a bit. I have habitual sin.It seems the Bible tells you what you should be a lot but not how to be it. I don’t feel very close to God and given what I have said above perhaps that is no surprise.I feel like I have missed it. All that said, I love Jesus in a way that doesn’t even make sense to me. It's just there. I go to church with my wife, but to be honest I don’t have any friends there and I don’t get much out of it.Its quite shallow and going through the motions mostly.The pastor in my old church went to be with the Lord last year and I miss him a lot. Dear Pastor Bob: I have been going through a living hell since my brothers passing last January. On top of my brothers passing, my mother had a stroke in May and as her primary caregiver, I have been left with no help and I feel alone. Dear Pastor Bob: How do we tell if a believer is using their spiritual gifts properly? It seems that many Christians misuse their gifts. They use them to edify themselves more than they use them to edify others.At least, it seems that way. And with other gifts, how do we know if they have agenuine gift, or if they are faking it? One such gift that seems to be abused is the gift of prophecy.There are a lot of self appointed prophets who seem to miss a lot of prophecies. If they had the genuine gift of prophecy, why would they have such a bad track record? What thoughts might you have on this?
