Alex In The Smart City | Survival Guide Using Smart Technology EP22. SPECIAL
In this episode, Alex In The Smart City | Survival Guide Using Smart Technology EP22. SPECIAL
I'm going to show you how easy it is to live in a megacity in China in 2022.
During the pandemic, China adopted the health code and the travel code system very early. Green codes mean I haven't been in an area where it's been infected. This information is in real-time and is really important to save lives.
In Western countries we have our own ride-hailing services, China does it a little bit different, as it gives you more information on the driver, including if the driver has actually even been vaccinated, also you're given a selection of vehicles that you can take ride-sharing inside the application. If you don't have enough money or if there's an emergency, it allows you to delay payment to the driver, and the application has a credit of one free ride ahead of you.
The booth outside of my house is a storage compartment for packages. When a courier drops off a package to you, they give you a number on your phone; you just need to input the number, and the door will open up, and you can take your package.
Massage chairs, battery bank, rental bikes, charging stations for the energy vehicles...It looks like you can do everything in China as long as you have a QR code.

China's Mega City Fighting Covid, Fires, Drought All At Once.
China's Mega City Fighting Covid, Fires, Drought All At Once.
Stong Chongqing is one way of describing its people. A city ravaged by a heat wave, fires, water shortages and a small outbreak of Covid all the same time.
COVID-19 is a significant public health emergency taken very serious in China. China's Zero Covid Policy has come under pressure from the international community, and many western media outlets have called the strategy draconian.
Chongqing is a sprawling municipality with over 32 million people. The city is recently dealing with a small outbreak of Covid Cases. Without hesitation, the local government mass tested millions of residents on August 24. The Zero Covid strategy continues to show its resilience. Over 180 countries have abandoned their Covid methods and now rely on simple measures like social distancing and minor mask requirements. Judging by the numbers in other nations, these measures come with consequences. Japan's numbers have skyrocketed in recent weeks.
Covid is not the only thing challenging the megacity of Chongqing. Since July 2022, the Yangtze River has been experiencing the worst meteorological drought since 1961. With a rare "reverse dry season in the flood season". On August 11, the Ministry of Water Resources launched a level IV emergency response to drought prevention in 6 provinces and cities, including Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi and Anhui. The water supply has been affected by drought. In Chongqing, the highest temperature reached an unprecedented 45°C. According to the forecast of the Chongqing Meteorological Observatory, in the next three days, most parts of Chongqing will continue to be sunny, hot and high temperatures, and the temperature will be 25-44 ℃.
The forest fire danger level in most areas of Chongqing is exceptionally high. There are more than 18 active fires in size and scale. Some fires are visible from the city as mountains surround Chongqing.
The strength of Chongqing is in the peoples. First line responders nurses, doctors, fire volunteers know their roles is this battle. The often unknown heroes are the good citizens and the young generation who all pull together to support each other. This city is bracing for a difficult week ahead. Having a city of strong people who have a history of rising to any challenge is somewhat refreshing in a time of great challenges.
Everyone is trying to win this battle against climate change and water shortages, including a pandemic. One city is up for the challenge , the strong city of Chongqing.

China's Smart City ⑦丨Chongqing
5G base station, monitoring probe, traffic lights, air monitoring, audio, and video broadcasting, rescuing alarm, mobile phone and electric vehicle charging, intelligent garbage can… From head to bottom, this smart street light developed by Chongqing Tanva Lighting Co., Ltd. is equipped with a variety of practical functions, helping to promote the city’s intelligent management.
The Smart China Expo (SCE) 2022, to be held in Southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality from August 22 to 24, will focus on the theme of “Smart City.”
As an old friend who already participated in the previous sessions, Tanva plans to bring in two products this year. One is the intelligent-management solar street light, and the other is the application scheme of photovoltaic power generation, said Sunny Lin, general manager of Chongqing Tanva Lighting Co., Ltd., during an exclusive interview with iChongqing on August 2.
“Traditional street lights only have the lighting function, while smart streetlights are equipped with energy-saving control, which can automatically adjust the brightness according to the environment,” said Lin. “Compared with the traditional sodium lights, secondary energy saving can reach over 65%.”
“Through the smart light pole Internet of Things (IoT) technology, the comprehensive energy saving rate of urban construction can reach 85%, providing a lower cost for the construction of smart cities,” added Lin.
At present, more application scenarios of Tanva Lighting’s smart street lights were seen in Chongqing, where the case of Fuling’s comprehensive bonded zone is successful with full coverage of 2.7 square kilometers of the smart street lights.

China's Smart City ⑥丨Chongqing
With daily waste recycled, flying ash solidified, slag burnt into bricks, and heat generated into electric power, the intelligent waste-to-energy (WTE) scenarios of Chongqing Sanfeng Covanta Environmental Industry Co., Ltd (Sanfeng Covanta) are contributing to a greener China and a greener world.
Investing in 51 projects with a daily capacity of 56,000 tons, Sanfeng Covanta is a pioneer in China’s WTE industry. “We specialize in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracting, equipment manufacturing, and operation management services for WTE projects,” introduced Kevin Lu, deputy director of overseas business of Sanfeng Covanta, during the exclusive interview with iChongqing on August 4.
According to Lu, waste-to-energy refers to that after high-temperature combustion treatment of municipal solid waste, the waste heat generated is used for power generation, and the flue gas and ash generated are treated harmlessly to realize the harmlessness, reduction, and recycling treatment of domestic waste.
“Every people will produce municipal solid waste during their daily life. But maybe they never think about the treatment for those waste,” said Lu. “Actually, the waste will be connected from every household to a transfer center, then go into the WTE facilities in plants for treatment.”
In 2002, Sanfeng built the Chongqing Tongxing WTE plant in build-operate-transfer (BOT) mode, becoming China’s first localized WTE demonstration project. In 2007, Sanfeng invested 100 million yuan (about 14.8 million U.S. dollars) to build the world’s leading domestic waste incinerator assembly base.
Lu witnessed that Chongqing continues to increase investment in environmental protection and promote green development over the past decade. 15 WTE plants have been built successively with a daily treatment capacity of about 19,000 tons, realizing 100% reduction, recycling, and harmless disposal of municipal waste.

China's Smart City ⑤丨Chongqing
“Intellectualization and digitization are the inevitable trends in the development of the electronic technology industry,” said Xiang Zealand, Deputy General Manager at Chongqing Silian Sensor Technology Co., Ltd. “Green and sustainable development is also the only way for the development of the electronic technology industry.”
Chongqing Silian Measure & Control Technology Co., Ltd. was founded in 2007. The company’s line of business includes the manufacturing of measuring and controlling devices, serving as the first company to industrialize high-precision Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) pressure sensor chips in China.
MEMS pressure sensor integrates pressure sensing element and digital conditioning chip, compensating the drift, sensitivity, and linearity parameters digitally. Relying on the voltage power supply, this pressure sensor outputs a standard voltage signal which is calibrated and compensated.
“Our entire factory requires high levels of intelligence in terms of production technology,” said Xiang. For example, the environmental requirements are quite strict with cleanliness requirements ranging from 10,000 to 100 degrees, as well as constant humidity and temperature requirements.
“All these need to be controlled by an intelligent environmental system,” said Xiang. “So intelligence is quite widely applied here.”

International Food Scenarios Boom in the Streets of Chongqing
What will the future restaurant look like? Have they mechanized cooking or offer robot service? In SpaceLab at Raffles City Chongqing, customers may glimpse the future restaurant.
Chongqing is making every effort to build an international consumption center city. Being an international food city is one of the essential business cards, where plenty of new international food consumption scenarios are booming in the streets of Chongqing.
“Many guests say SpaceLab is the Disney in the restaurant market,” said Chris Weng, Manager of SpaceLab Restaurant (Raffles City Chongqing). “Our restaurant has not only good food but also an exciting experience combining technology and entertainment.”
Weng continued that meals can be delivered to the table through the track within 17 seconds. The restaurant also provides entertaining services where bumblebees and astronauts often interact with children at their SpaceLab planet theater.
“Sino-German cooperation team introduced the concept of Orbit Restaurant to China in 2015,” said Weng. “SpaceLab is a new type of catering that combines German 4.0 industrial technology, future lifestyle, and mobile Internet. In September 2019, SpaceLab’s seventh restaurant opened in Raffles City Chongqing.”
Weng said the reason for setting up a restaurant in Chongqing is that Chongqing is the No. 1 internet celebrity city in Southwest China, with a population of 30 million.
“Regardless of its economic strength or spending power, it is an excellent representative of new first-tier cities,” said Weng. “Our brand positioning is in line with Chongqing’s city image.
“It is Xiao Dadong’s first restaurant in Chongqing and western China,” said Shuangzhi Ji, Deputy General Manager of Xiao Dadong, Head of Southwest Region. “Our master chose this location and believed that the shape of Raffle City Chongqing looks like sailing, and it was also where Chongqing received the imperial decree in ancient times, which has a good meaning.”
Dadong originated from Beijing. Therefore this little branch named Xiao Dadong serves the fantastic and famous Peking Roast Duck, in addition to many other dishes.
“Raffles City is one of the landmarks in Chongqing, and we have met some foreign guests who came here and felt the duck was delicious,” Ji added.
Italian food can be found in almost every shopping mall and every lively business street in Chongqing. Richang is a pasta restaurant that started with tiramisu, where you can eat freshly made special tiramisu and handmade pasta daily.
“Among our restaurant’s guests, many foreign guests live in Chongqing,” said Viola Sun, founder of Richang Restaurant. “Richang is the first restaurant to sell handmade pasta in Chongqing, and our main guest groups are post-90s or even post-00s for their interest in new imported products.”
Sun thinks the western food market is rising in Chongqing, utterly different from a few years ago.
“Our guests not only eat but also understand what they eat, and they can distinguish the ingredient’s quality or the dishes’ taste,” she said. “What we hope to do is to be a family-style pasta restaurant in Chongqing.”

Changan Auto, one of China’s Big Four auto groups, has been accelerating to development of its electric vehicle sector in recent years.
A couple of years ago, Changan started to upgrade its traditional products by connecting them to the Internet and adding intelligent features. Changan is now making clear moves toward electric transformation.
Models such as E-star and LUMIN are targeted at low-price markets. The Deepal brand was created as the new image of the company’s electric vehicle flag. Cooperating with Huawei and the global battery leader CTAL, the three companies jointly launched AVATR, a brand that targets the high-end market.
According to Guo Tong, General Manager of the Strategy and Marketing Department of Changan Deepal, the company will ultimately sell its electric vehicles overseas. “We hope Changan Deepal will become a world-renowned Chinese new energy brand,” he said.
Changan’s move is not unique. It unveils information on how popular electric vehicle investment is in China and how the wave of electric transformation rapidly influenced all major auto producers in the country. Some industry experts believe the collective action gives the country’s products a chance to lead the next great global competition in the auto revolution.
The country seems to support the companies by promoting electric vehicles, as the growing number of electric vehicles can help reduce carbon emissions, in line with national plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, making electric vehicles in China fashionable for investors.

China's Smart City ①丨Chongqing
A new way of living is needed in urban areas, as demonstrated by the bold and ambitious plans of many talented architects who break with tradition. Chongqing Fangzi is an inspiring building that demonstrates this.
With its fresh outlook, Chongqing Fangzi is a passive green building that uses architectural characteristics of spacial form, material, and structure to save energy and improve human well-being. Passive houses’ energy savings during their lifetime make them sustainable buildings. Using this approach, the construction industry can reduce carbon emissions and meet international climate targets.
With the name “Fangzi,” meaning “building” in Chinese, a walk exposed outdoors connects the ground to the top of the building, similar to how a road would be built in a medieval fortress. The walls and windows indicate that this is a modern building.
Chongqing Fangzi represents an avant-garde vision of future human life.
Solar power is used to heat the building’s water. Rainwater is collected on the roof to water the plants. A bamboo bush forms the mountain walk’s wall, and Bougainvillea surrounds the window, bringing pink color to the concrete. A convection space acts as a natural air conditioner for the office area, and an underground structure facilitates the flow of winds.
“Our ancient philosophy, which is based on respecting and following nature, is the essence of passive green building,” Chen Hangyi, the founder of Chongqing Fangzi, said. “Such thoughts should be inherited and adapted to our practice. As architects, we should make efforts to provide sustainable solutions to the city.” In Chen’s view, one way to improve the environment by consuming power is to install an air purifier, for instance.
Even though passive green seems to contradict itself, all those seemingly natural settings do not isolate themselves from nature but rather utilize nature with a very specific human design – it is, in a way, taming nature by following it. Yet, it is less costly than using some active green equipment.
Chen and his company invested three million yuan in the passive green construction of Chongqing Fangzi. In addition, since there is not a lot of electric equipment, the long-term operation does not cost much. It is a reasonable price for entrepreneurs like him, he said. According to him, passive green building design is the first step towards greening a city.
“What if we insist on doing that and can make up the value to cover the cost?” He said this is an important consideration for both businesses and society.
Chen said he had worked at the Chongqing Architectural Design Institute since 1994. “When I left in 2004, I had a dream to design and build a house that I liked.”
After graduating from Chongqing Jianzhu College, one of the top architectural schools in China at the time, Chen settled in Chongqing as a designer.
He wanted a building that reflected the architectural culture of Chongqing. The stilted building was chosen as the inspiration since stilted buildings are characterized by slopes shared by many of the buildings in Chongqing.
The project began in 2010 after the idea matured. His dream of building a house was realized when he finally got the chance to do so.
In 2014, Chen’s company BOA Design moved into Chongqing Fangzi, which served as its new office building.
Chen rented out some of the lower-floor offices to other design companies and opened the ground floor as an art and music venue.
Chen’s ideas of having more green buildings in the city are valued by the Chinese government.
According to statistics, 77% of China’s new urban construction in 2020 was classified as green. According to a new plan issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MHURD) and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in 2022, all new urban buildings in China will be constructed following green building standards by 2025. By 2030, about 60% of urban communities will be green communities with easy access to services.
A rapid improvement in building quality is taking place in the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area, where Chongqing Fangzi is situated. All new building projects must follow the current green building standards.

Another Day of Smart Life with James Alexander
As the 2022 edition of the Smart China Expo due to be held in Chonqing approaches, where nations and companies from across the world are set to display their latest innovations and hi-tech products, the occasion gave the perfect chance to experience how smart features are gradually merging into everyday life. In the Collaborative Innovation Zone, tucked away in the idyllic ecological surroundings of Yubei District, the Future Hotel features a team of interactive robots who welcome guests, provide them with information on verbal request, and can even usher them to various parts of the complex.
State of the art self-service desks allow guests to check in using facial recognition and a swipe of their identification card. After barely a few moments, their details are logged onto the smart system, and they can access the lifts, room, and facilities like the gymnasium simply by looking into the camera. Once settled in, a variety of in-room features can be activitied through an Alexa’like voice controlled device, which on verbal command, will open or draw the curtains, set the air-conditioning, put calls through to reception, and even answer whatever questions may peak one’s sense of curiosity.
The green mountain ridge adorning the scenic backdrop looks over Mingyue Lake, which are now home to 49 prestigious research institutes such as the National University of Singapore and Harbin Institute of Technology, meaning Chongqing has yet another top location where scientists have both the resources and environment to achieve success and enjoy a serene lifestyle free of distractions.
After settling into a cosy suite at the Future Hotel with a stunning balcony view over beautiful landscapes, water features and green mountains, iChongqing reporter James orders a refreshing drink to quench the heat of summer, which is delivered automatically by a robot straight to the door. Later, on a relaxing stroll to admire the pristine environment of Mingyue Lake, James discovers an autonomous boat moored at the jetty, and goes on to experience how Chongqing is not only pioneering in the field of autonomous driving, as exemplified by the recent approval of unmanned self-driving taxis in Yongchuan District, but also leading the way in setting up a demonstration base for autonomously operated leisure boats on this placid blue lake.
As dusk begins to fall on this day of smart life, James retires back to the hotel, and entrusts the delivery robot with one final errand, that is to bring a steaming hot bowl of Chongqing small noodles to enjoy a delectably wonderful sunset in Mountain City.
In this warm-up to the latest amazing technology set to be displayed at this year’s Smart China Expo, follow James and Kenny on this fun day of hi-tech experiences in one of the top homes for scientists nationwide, and see how smart innovations are set to become a part of everyday life in the very near future!

🔴LIVE: STREAM : The Co$t Of World Conflict | iChongqing | Reporterfy | PTE (AJ)
Join Alex Reporterfy & AJ (PTE) for an inside look at the cost of world conflict.
$14 trillion a year
Conflict and violence cost the world more than $14 trillion a year. That's the equivalent of $5 a day for every person on the planet. Research shows that peace brings prosperity, lower inflation and more jobs.
What is the price of peace?
Or put another way, how much better off would we all be in a world where armed conflict was avoided?
Around $14.4 trillion in 2019, according to the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) which crunched the numbers. That’s about $5 a day for every person on the planet.
To give some context, 689 million people - more than 9% of the world’s population - live on less than $1.90 a day, according to World Bank figures, underscoring the potential impact peace-building activities could have.
Just over 10% of global GDP is being spent on containing, preventing and dealing with the consequences of violence. As well as the 1.4 million violent deaths each year, conflict holds back economic development, causes instability, widens inequality and erodes human capital.

Smart Applications of New International Land-sea Trade Corridor | Chongqing Opportunity
Whole vehicle logistics tracking, online warehouse booking service, digital bill of lading platform, land-sea chain... Through advanced technology and information sharing, the New International Land-sea Trade Corridor is striving to create all-around smart applications.
The public information platform and blockchain platform built by New Land-sea Corridor Operation Co., Ltd. breakthrough data bottlenecks in logistics, trade, finance, and industry, reduce the cost of data interaction on the channel and fully release the energy of digital intelligence technology.
As a key project of ILSTC, the public information platform uses big data technology to integrate massive data of logistics hub nodes, transportation data of vehicles, documents circulation data, and financial service data.
Besides, the New Land-sea Corridor Operation Co., Ltd. also seized the emerging blockchain technology and created the New International Land-sea Trade Corridor blockchain platform, Land-sea Chain. Based on blockchain technology, the company built a digital bill of lading platform, which can shorten the bill of lading delivery time to a few minutes, with higher reliability and self-control.
Jointly built by China and Singapore, the ILSTC highlights the prominent role of Singapore Port, the second largest port in the Asia-Pacific region and one of the largest container ports in the world, with a record high container throughput of 37.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
With a business network encompassing over 50 locations in 26 countries, PSA has rich experience in container terminal operation, investment, and management. The construction concept of Singapore port and the smart port’s development can provide ideas for the port construction in Chongqing, helping China’s ports to reach a world-class level.
In the case of Chongqing, the Waterless Port, Chongqing’s important logistics distribution hub, will be one of the following priorities which mainly considers innovative applications in terms of efficiency and cost.
Looking forward to the ILSTC’s digital and intelligent future, the company would combine the data assets and applications on ILSTC to jointly build trade, financial, and industrial supply chain service platforms and advance the digital economy through a full range of digital applications.

Let's Talk About Democracy Interview EP.2 | Zhang Weiwei | Daniel Dumbrill | Alex iChongqing

The topic of the round table was Democracy In China. In episode 2, Professor Zhang Weiwei explains that there is a stereotype that the Western audiences and politicians have about democracy in China. It is primarily shaped by the Cold War mentality. But the stereotype ignores the fact that China's mode is to solve problems: the government's political policy, economic policy, and social policy are designed to improve people's living standards, both material and non-material, and the tactics can be adjusted and changed and reformed. The Chinese mode is not perfect, but it really meets the requirements of identifying problems, finding the causes, and fixing them within a deadline.
Daniel Dumbrill describes his observation during Covid-19. When the Covid started, Daniel Dumbrill lived in Shenzhen. He was scared, but he also understood that the lockdown and the “dynamic clearance” were necessary. Compared to the United States, one million people lost their lives, a lot of people lost their grandparents, and the life expectancy is lower than in China (China 77.9, United States 77). If China adopts the American policy, it will be much worse, and we could have locked down for even longer.

Living In A Smart City | Chongqing China 2022
The country with the most extensive IP patents filed in 2021 and 2022, China is leading the global race to create smart cities, digitizing urban areas by using big data processing and analysis powered by artificial intelligence to help manage resources and public spaces for urban living. China's relentless aspiration to turn itself into a technological powerhouse supported by human talent, investment and government policies lay the foundation for sustainable development.
Hundreds of Chinese cities already have a pilot program. By estimate, more than 800 pilot programs. China has half of the world's smart cities. The spread of the edge computing cameras and sensors using 5G wireless connections is expected to accelerate the use of smart city and surveillance technology.
One city stands out from most cities in China.
CHONGQING.
When you are the largest city in the world, you have a responsibility to lead. Leading a city with the population of some countries requires a defined strategy. Many cities around the globe have grand ambitions to become smart cities, and some cities fail to achieve this due to financial reasons or government red tape (regulations).
One mega city in southwest china may have unlocked the solutions to the perfect blueprint for achieving this.
CHONGQING is leading the way.

🔴LIVE STREAM : World Recession | Is China Vulnerable ?
#China #recession #economy #chongqing
Join Alex & Vivian for 1 hour of Econoimic Coverage in China
and abroad.
Compounding the damage from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has magnified the slowdown in the global economy, which is entering what could become a protracted period of feeble growth and elevated inflation, according to the World Bank’s latest Global Economic Prospects report. This raises the risk of stagflation, with potentially harmful consequences for middle- and low-income economies alike.
Global growth is expected to slump from 5.7 percent in 2021 to 2.9 percent in 2022— significantly lower than 4.1 percent that was anticipated in January. It is expected to hover around that pace over 2023-24, as the war in Ukraine disrupts activity, investment, and trade in the near term, pent-up demand fades, and fiscal and monetary policy accommodation is withdrawn. As a result of the damage from the pandemic and the war, the level of per capita income in developing economies this year will be nearly 5 percent below its pre-pandemic trend.
We will give you our opinions.

Join Shelly and Eiko for “What Makes a City Livable?| Foodwise and Tour in Chongqing and Singapore| Lau Pa Sat Food Court and Jiefangbei”
In 2022, ECA International, an international human resource consulting company published a conclusion that Singapore has remained the most liveable location in the world for expatriates from East Asia. Well-known as a country with beautiful scenery, clean air, and pleasant weather all year, Singapore attracts not only tourists but also expatriates to settle.
Chongqing, the biggest municipality in Southwestern China, is moving forward to a more liveable future due to its lately-years development. More walk paths, trails, and parks were built in this city, along with more leisure facilities being put into use. In 2021, the number of migrants outside the city reached 2.2277 million, an increase of 31.7% of the population over 2015. Like Singapore, the immigrant history in Chongqing has generated fushion culture in food, language, and lifestyle.
Infrastructure, housing, availability of health services......what makes a city liveable? iChongqing invited Shelly, a girl who lives in Singapore and loves traveling, to walk on Lau Pa Sat Food Court, and the surrounding area in Singapore CBD tomorrow. Eiko will be walking on the Food Court in Jiefangbei, one of the CBD and historical sites in Chongqing as well. And there will be a discussion about the liveable city, the tourism, and most importantly, we’ll be showing you the beautiful streets and foods in both cities.
