This is another breeding project in pursuit of my seedless cultivars. It's known as parthenocarpy. I select for qualities I like and cross them to make new, unique cultivars (varieties) of tomato. This round, I chose Cherokee Purple because it is the best tasting dark (purple/brown) type of tomato I've ever tasted. This is part 2 of 2 for the dwarf tomato breeding of mine. I am nearly 100% sure that this is the only seedless dwarf tomato on the planet. Well, the other one I'm breeding may be the 2nd one. Parthenocarpy is an amazing trait a plant can have. Parthenocarpic plants set fruit without being tied to pollination. It's a rare quality. You may have eaten seedless grapes, bananas, oranges, and watermelon for example. This is a new project for me. After tomatoes, squash is my favorite vegetable to breed with. Squash grow easily and provide so much food to the home gardener. To enhance variability and use among the crop, I want to breed new, different strains that folks can incorporate into their diets. This is one of those attempts. What I'm demonstrating in this video is how to clone and multiply a favorite tomato plant you may have. It does a few things. It saves the expense of buying new seed. It preserves the exceptional value of a special plant, whether it's high-producing or tastes fantastic, for example. It solves the need to save seed and begin again the following year. I've not grown too many heart-shaped tomatoes before, but in 2022, I did grow both Curtis Cheek, and this one, Fertunia. I found Fertunia to be better in most ways. It's shape, size, and taste are fantastic. This variety isn't really in the public yet. I acquired it in a seed swap from Paula Thomas after watching a video on her YouTube channel "Gapey's Grub". I just had a new wooden fence installed by a contractor called Bilt-Rite Restoration here in central Arkansas. In less than 2 months, mild winds (and rain) have already led to the fence leaning which would have soon led to fence collapse. I emailed my insurance agent and they said "unfortunately I can't do anything about workmanship for you." That's probably true. Would need to file another claim and who knows what could happen with that. So, I contacted the contractor and left a text message. I had his personal number as I had other issues with the work being done. He never got back with me. I decided not to pursue it further. We'll keep the issues here only with fence design and build. 9 years earlier, I built the fence in the same location and it was 2 foot higher. It took a tornado to damage it. You can draw your own conclusions on the workmanship. My driving ambition is to use the natural genetics of tomato to expand fruit production capability, in more diverse and harsh climates, to increase food production for all of us. As mentioned in the video, definitive results for parthenocarpy are seedless fruit. Parthenocarpy is an amazing trait a plant can have. Parthenocarpic plants set fruit without being tied to pollination. It's a rare quality. You may have eaten seedless grapes, bananas, oranges, and watermelon for example. The eating pleasure is much better when there is no seeds.
