Did you know Yellowstone is a supervolcano? One of the world's largest active volcanoes lies beneath Yellowstone!! I must say after hearing that and then venturing into Yellowstone National Park “intentionally” it felt a little eerie! But it’s easy to become mesmerized by all the spurts of hot steam bursting through the ground and hot bubbling mud like something out of a horror movie and not to mention the myriad of colors layering the ground with what appears to be some form of life growing in the strangest and most extreme forms of habitats! A dream came true today! It’s always been Jack’s heart’s desire to explore the vast lands of Yellowstone National Park. He had made this special request to celebrate a big milestone in his life! What better way to remember such a momentous occasion as Jack’s 60th birthday exploring the beauty of God’s creation at Yellowstone. We lost count of how many bison we had seen as we drove in and out of the four corners of the Park. However, the anticipated 14-day trip admiring the picturesque scenery actually ended up as 4 long days, but more about that later! Having peace in the storm! When life takes a turn for the worse, you’d better be standing on a firm foundation, or your world will crumble all around. So grateful to Jesus who walked with us during Jack’s Covid health crisis. Having been diagnosed with viral pneumonia and testing positive with Covid meant 13 days of hospitalization! One thing you can be sure of even when faced with a dark raging storm DO NOT DOUBT…Jesus is still with you. That’s when your faith is tested …. you will have a choice to trust in His faithfulness or start to fear! Look for His fingerprints. God is always at work. He is sooo faithful!

When will we learn? It should be enough to enjoy the beautiful, paved roads of Montana, but not for Jack & Wendy. We need to make everything super hard for ourselves, that causes us to face some hair-raising situations! Thanks to my critical thinking hubby he always finds a way out!

Being prepared to tackle the unknown definitely keeps us on our toes that’s for sure! We were faced with yet another new challenge! This time it was in the form of a very tall tree that had fallen during the previous night’s storm and ended up blocking our path! Very grateful that Jack had spent many hours watching other RVers in preparation for this trip. During one of the many YouTube videos he had watched it was recommended to always travel with a saw in case of an emergency! With no other sign of human life or access to the internet we would have had no other choice but to sit, wait and hope that someone would eventually come to our rescue! Being on the road flexibility has become second nature! Due to the Montana fires our plans to visit Glacier National Park also went up in smoke! So instead, we went to Plan B and tried our hardest to visualize the beautiful mountainous horizon of Montana through the haze! It didn’t stop us making the best of a peaceful 5-day stay in Carbella. overlooking the Yellowstone River! Sure, is the longest River we have ever seen…692 miles of it to be precise! This was our first experience learning about the Indian culture firsthand. It was fascinating. Even with the weather trying to put a damper on our spirits we still came away wanting to learn more. Crazy Horse is a work in progress, but nothing can take away from the history it holds …incomplete or complete it’s still a sight to visit. Not many people can say that they have celebrated their birthday with four presidents of the United States in one day! What an honor and so proud of them for not being late to the special occasion. Mt. Rushmore is a sight to behold. The videos and photos do not do it justice; you need to go in person to get the full experience. Welcome to the family Bee-Boo! After seeing her big brown eyes staring at us in desperation to leave the shelf in Wall Drug Store we just had to come to her rescue! From here on out little black bear will be our traveling companion and will be making her appearance known to all. As for the Badlands, we would say the bison stole the show! If you want to take a step back in time, then the 1880 Town in South Dakota is the place you won’t want to miss on your travels. So many fun things to explore and experience. If you are a fan of the movie Dances with Wolves with Kevin Costner, you will fall in love with this place! It’s a taste of life during the Cowboy and Indian era…without the concern of being filled with bullet holes, stabbed with feathered arrows or scalped! Fun place. In search of adventure, we go exploring the Sioux Falls off the beaten track on a hot and humid day and took way too many chances. One slip could have brought an abrupt end to our trip. We survived to tell the tale without any scratches, but I did come away with a slightly bruised ego realizing I’m a bit of a scary cat! Hubby was fearless! Lake Superior truly lives up to its name! We were totally taken aback by its incredible color and vastness. It definitely brought back memories of our younger days in the Caribbean! Water temperature on the other hand not so inviting. It was freezing. Exploring the scenic Pictured Rocks along the Upper Peninsula coastline is a must, topped off with an abundance of luscious green foliage lining the many staircases leading to a myriad of waterfalls. Before heading out of St Ignace we got the chance to explore the town on our e-bikes stopping off to sample one of Michigan’s famous pasties. Of course nothing engraves the memory of a place than spending a few hours in a hot and sweaty laundromat! Grateful for clean underwear! Our journey continued to fly-infested Paradise! What NOT to do on Mackinaw Island! This will be an Independence Day we will never forget… mainly because of the scars left from the blisters on our feet! Lesson #1 Don’t be cheap and rent a bike for at least an hour and then take a horse and buggy ride and learn some history about the Island! Lesson #2 Avoid visiting the Island on a public holiday-unless you like being run over by a tidal-wave of bikes or be trampled under foot by sugar rushed pedestrian (avoid the Island fudge!) Lesson #3 Go in cooler months and take lots of water and snacks otherwise you’ll pay double on the Island and run out of money! Lesson #4 Don’t bother dragging your ebikes on board the ferry; you won’t be allowed to use them on the Island anyway! We were so impressed not only by the amount of lakes throughout the Michigan area, but just how crystal clear (and freezing) they were. Jack and Wendy arrived just in time to celebrate their grandson, Milan’s first birthday. A fun-filled 10 days with family and friends, not only in Burbank, Illinois but also a surprising trip to the Ogden Dunes in Indiana. Jack and Wendy finally reach Illinois after a grueling long journey through Iowa. They enjoyed a much needed rest which they found last minute at Illiniwek Campground on the border of Iowa and Illinois.
