A Day at Fenway –
A Day at Fenway –
As a kid I remember watching the exciting World Series games between the Boston Red Sox and the Cincinnati Reds with my dad. He was a big Red Sox fan and when Carlton Fisk hit the homer off the left field foul pole in the 12th inning of game six, our entire house burst with excitement. As a kid and even as an adult I have had a chance to be to other famous ball parks but none so famous as Fenway. I must admit that to view the Monster Wall in person is a thrill that will not be soon forgotten. On our arrival two hours before game time on a sunny Wednesday afternoon we discovered a party atmosphere that started in the street and carried all through the park. And yes I had a Fenway Frank and yes it was as good as advertised.

Steamtown in Scranton PA
As we travel around the country meeting new and interesting people experiencing different cultures and trying new cuisine the biggest travesty, we see in our society today is the younger generations don’t get a chance to learn about the people who made America the greatest country on the planet. Or, learn how they did it. Laying hundreds of miles of railroad track was an incredible undertaking but the railroad and the people who designed, built and operated it knit this country together. The main tool they used to complete this endeavor was the steam locomotive. Do yourself, your children and grandchildren a great service and make a plan to visit as many real historic sites there are, before the real history is forgotten. To see real American ingenuity and grit in action a trip to Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton PA is a must.

Let us not Forget - Bristol Vermont
No matter what small town, we drive through as we travel the highways and byways of this Great Nation there is one constant theme we see. The community is proud of the young men and women who gave their lives defending our Country and our Constitution. And they never want to forget them so memorials, parks and monuments are erected to their memory. Never forget, heroes of America, America the beautiful, Great Nation of America, remember what they did!

Memorial to the Fallen-Bristol Memorial
In our crazy hectic fast passed world, Interstate travel is the norm. I had a friend tell me once that he used the interstate so he could get to his vacation faster. I pointed out that the travel to the vacation spot was part of the vacation why not take your time and enjoy it. The inscription at the Bristol Memorial Park reads;
This area has been set apart by the people of Bristol to honor those who served and perpetuate the memory of those who sacrificed their lives in World War 2 and the Korean Conflict. A living memorial dedicated to the use of future generations as a continuing symbol of the gratitude of a Free People. Erected 1966.

New River Gorge National Park - Places in West Virginia
Simply Amazing the views in and around New River Gorge. Many years ago, this area was full of coal mines, small mining towns and all the hard working people that tough life includes. Now it has been preserved by the National Park Service as a place for endless outdoor fun. Beautiful views, endless hiking and climbing trails and plenty of water activity. If you are the outdoor type hook up the RV and spend some time here. But book early because the place fills up fast.

What I learned on the Outer Banks - Things to do in North Carolina
This week’s adventure takes us to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Where we visit the Wright Brother Memorial and learn things about first flight we never know. We also enjoy a few of the lighthouses that protect ships from the treacherous water in this part of the Atlantic Ocean. The National parks and museums we visit have great stories of the history long forgotten. Like the countless ship wrecks that have occurred in these water. The pirate community that once inhabited the islands as they practiced their trade. And, let us not overlook where and how the first ever airplane ride ever occurred.
If you are ever in North Carolina with a weekend or even a week to spend or you are a history nut like me, or just enjoy peaceful beaches take some time to stop and see the Outer Banks.
