Blade Runner 2049 (2017) Movie Review: A Sequel That Surpasses the Original?
As Paul and Samir revelled in the cyberpunk realm of the original Blade Runner (1982), their minds thirsted for more. Eagerly, they plunged into the neon-lit depths of its successor, Blade Runner 2049, a film that resonates with the masses 🤔
Blade Runner 2049, a neon-drenched, cerebral, and engulfing sequel to the seminal 1982 sci-fi noir masterpiece, Blade Runner, helmed by Ridley Scott, catapults viewers into a dystopian future. Three decades have passed, and now it is Denis Villeneuve, the visionary behind mind-bending films like Arrival (2016) and Sicario (2015), who takes the reins. The script, penned by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, pays tribute to its origin while masterfully expanding the Blade Runner cosmos.
Los Angeles, a sprawling cyberpunk metropolis, is enshrouded in a dystopian haze, ravaged by ecological collapse, relentless weather, and staggering inequality. This bleak, atmospheric world is vital in setting the stage for the film's unmistakable neo-noir essence, echoing the original's allure.
Ryan Gosling embodies Officer K, a new breed of "Blade Runner" patrolling the grim streets for the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Tasked with hunting and "retiring" rogue bioengineered beings, the replicants, Blade Runners navigate the murky boundaries of humanity. As Officer K peels back the layers of enigmatic secrets, he confronts not only his own existence but also the potential to reshape the course of human and replicant history.
Amidst the synthetic rain, a supporting cast of fresh faces and seasoned thespians bring this electric dreamscape to life. Harrison Ford reprises his role as Rick Deckard, while Ana de Armas captivates as Joi, a multifaceted character who infuses the narrative with emotional gravity. Other key players include Robin Wright, Sylvia Hoeks, and Jared Leto, each weaving intricate threads into the tapestry of subplots and themes.
The deliberate pace of Blade Runner 2049 lures the viewer into its thematic labyrinth, exploring identity, humanity, and the essence of existence. This slow-burning odyssey is amplified by its mesmerizing visual style, a synthesis of practical and digital wizardry. Villeneuve and his trusted collaborator, cinematographer Roger Deakins, craft a series of indelible, hauntingly beautiful images that etch themselves into the viewer's psyche. Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch's atmospheric score reverberates through the dystopian cityscape, conjuring the innovative spirit of Vangelis from the original film.

🎬 Caligula (1979) Movie Review - Shameful Trash, or Misunderstood? #eleventy8
Caligula. This week we're following on with our controversial 70s movies. Samir has never seen Caligula, despite thinking Malcolm McDowell is a talented actor. Bordering on hardcore pron, disavowed by the screenwriter and director, it's this the worse movie ever made?
Caligula is a 1979 erotic historical drama film focusing on the rise and fall of the Roman Emperor Caligula. The film stars Malcolm McDowell in the title role, alongside Teresa Ann Savoy, Helen Mirren, Peter O'Toole, John Steiner and John Gielgud. Producer Bob Guccione, the founder of Penthouse magazine, intended to produce an erotic feature film narrative with high production values and name actors.
Caligula's release was met with legal issues and controversies over its violent and sexual content; multiple cut versions were released worldwide, while its uncut form remains banned in several countries. Despite the generally negative reception, with some critics also citing it among the worst movies ever made, the film is considered to be a cult classic with significant merit for its political content and historical portrayal.

Young, well-intentioned Barry Kohler stumbles upon a secret organization of Third Reich war criminals and Neo-Nazis holding clandestine meetings in Asunción, Paraguay and finds that Dr. Josef Mengele, the infamous Auschwitz doctor, is with them. A highly sceptical Lieberman tries to brush Kohler's claims aside, telling him that it is well known that Mengele is living in Paraguay.

🎬 The Founder (2016) Movie Review: Capitalism For The Win?
Ah, The Founder - because who wouldn't want to spend nearly two hours of their precious time watching a movie about the man who took credit for turning a humble, innovative burger joint into a global empire? Samir, you truly have a knack for picking cinematic masterpieces.
Prepare yourselves, Paul and Samir, for an enthralling journey into the world of fast food, featuring dazzling performances by Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc and the McDonald brothers played by Nick Offerman and John Carroll Lynch. This film is all about the American Dream, supersized and drenched in special sauce.
Fear not, for The Founder is not just a tale of ruthless ambition and corporate greed. No, no, it also provides a charming backdrop of the 1950s and 1960s, with vintage cars, retro diners, and a catchy soundtrack that'll have you tapping your feet and craving a cheeseburger. As you immerse yourselves in this bygone era, you'll marvel at the mind-blowing idea that fast food was once a novelty, not a worldwide plague.
So, Paul and Samir, brace yourselves for an unforgettable movie night, complete with a side of fries and a large helping of sarcasm. After all, who wouldn't want to learn the twisted origin story of the golden arches? And remember, if nothing else, at least you'll know who to blame next time you're stuck in a mile-long drive-thru queue.

Live and Let Die (1973) Movie Trailer
Live and Let Die is a 1973 spy film. It was the eighth film in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions, and the first to star Roger Moore as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. It was directed by Guy Hamilton and produced by Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, while Tom Mankiewicz wrote the script. Although the producers had approached Sean Connery to return after his role in the previous Bond film Diamonds Are Forever, he declined, sparking a search for a new actor to play Bond; Moore was signed for the lead role.
The film is based on Ian Fleming's 1954 novel of the same name. The storyline involves a Harlem drug lord known as Mr. Big who plans to distribute two tons of heroin for free to put rival drug barons out of business and then become a monopoly supplier. Mr. Big is revealed to be the alter ego of Dr. Kananga, a corrupt Caribbean dictator, who rules San Monique, a fictional island where opium poppies are secretly farmed. Bond is investigating the deaths of three British agents, leading him to Kananga, and he is soon trapped in a world of gangsters and voodoo as he fights to put a stop to the drug baron's scheme.
Live and Let Die was released during the height of the blaxploitation era, and many blaxploitation archetypes and clichés are depicted in the film, including derogatory racial epithets ("honky"), black gangsters, and pimpmobiles. It departs from the former plots of the James Bond films about megalomaniac super-villains, and instead focuses on drug trafficking, a common theme of blaxploitation films of the period. It is set in African-American cultural centres such as Harlem and New Orleans, as well as the Caribbean Islands. It was also the first James Bond film featuring an African-American Bond girl romantically involved with 007, Rosie Carver, who was played by Gloria Hendry. The film was a box-office success and received generally positive reviews from critics. Its title song, written by Paul and Linda McCartney and performed by their band Wings, was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Triple Cross (1967) Movie Review: Con Man Turned Spy
Do you love spy movies? Do you love watching people suffer? 😈 If you answered yes to both questions, then you will love this live stream movie review, where Paul and Samir will watch Triple Cross (1966), a spy movie that is apparently so bad, it’s good. 😂
Triple Cross (1966) is based on the true story of Eddie Chapman, a British criminal who became a double agent for the Nazis and the British during World War II. Sounds exciting, right? Wrong. 😒 Reportedly, this movie is a mess of clichés, plot holes, and bad acting. It’s so bad, it’s hilarious. 🤣
Paul has never seen this movie before, but both Paul and Samir are willing to sacrifice their time and sanity for your amusement. They will watch this movie and comment on everything that is wrong with it. And trust us, there is a lot. 😅
Paul likes to drink alcohol on stream, so he will probably get drunk and make fun of everything and everyone in this movie. 🍾 Samir is usually quite reserved, but he might lose it when his nostalgic, rose-tinted view of this film is shattered! 🤬
You don’t want to miss this epic live stream, where Paul and Samir will comment on Triple Cross (1966) and make observations like no one before them. 😎
You might hate this movie, you might love this movie, but you will definitely hate watching Paul & Samir talk about it. 😍

Stalingrad (1993) Movie Review: Anti-war Movie, From a German Perspective
Step into the world of Stalingrad (1993), a film that will transport you to the heart of one of the most intense and devastating battles in human history. Brace yourself for an epic journey filled with explosive action, heart-wrenching drama, and... well, some interesting directorial choices.
In this cinematic gem, director Joseph Vilsmaier takes us back to the hellish battleground of Stalingrad during World War II. But be warned, this isn't your typical war film. Instead of focusing solely on the grim realities of war, Vilsmaier takes a more... shall we say, artistic approach.
And let's not forget about the characters! Stalingrad introduces us to a diverse group of soldiers, each with their own quirks and personality traits. Whether it's the stoic leader, the witty sidekick, or the hopeless romantic, you'll find yourself cheering for them... or chuckling at their sometimes questionable decision-making skills.
The film's dialogue is a delightful mix of poetic monologues and profound philosophical ponderings. You'll be treated to lines that will make you question the very nature of existence, all while bombs are exploding in the background. Who needs realism when you can have deep conversations in the midst of chaos?
Stalingrad (1993) is a film that will leave you pondering the deeper meanings of war, life, and the human condition. Or it might leave you scratching your head, wondering what just happened. Either way, it's an experience you won't soon forget.

Leon (1994) Movie Review: Depth, Drama & Disturbingly Moving
Join Paul and Samir, two film watchers, as they tackle the iconic 'Leon The Professional' from 1994 in this low energy movie review! These two veterans try to bring their witty banter and tipsy insights to the table, making this a forgettable viewing experience.
Surrounded by empty bottles, Paul and Samir's dedication to their craft is evident. Who needs water when there's booze? Prepare for candid opinions, hilarious tangents, and obscure references. Brace yourself for a review that's part self-flagellation, part critique, and 100% unfiltered nonsense!
Luc Besson's action-packed masterpiece tells the heartwarming story of an unlikely friendship between a hitman and a young girl. But Paul and Samir won't get sentimental. Instead, expect tales of their own misadventures, taking the spotlight alongside intense performances and stylish direction.
This isn't your ordinary review; it's a boring journey filled with awkward pauses and forgettable moments. So grab a drink, pull your pants up from around your ankles and buckle up for the attempted banter of Paul and Samir.

🎬 Where Eagles Dare (1968) Movie Review - Old School Action, or 3 Hours of Boredom?
Where Eagles Dare (1968). Guess who picked this movie? three hours long (it's alright, we had nothing else to do) and full of action... We'll see how it goes, with the odd casting of Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood as the least convincing pretend Germans in WWII.
Where Eagles Dare is a 1968 war film directed by Brian G. Hutton and starring Richard Burton, Clint Eastwood and Mary Ure. It follows a joint British-American Special Operations Executive team of paratroopers raiding a castle (shot on location in Austria and Bavaria). It was filmed in Panavision using the Metrocolor process, and was distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Alistair MacLean wrote the screenplay, his first, at the same time that he wrote the novel of the same name. Both became commercial successes.
In the winter of 1943–44, U.S. Army Brigadier General George Carnaby, a chief planner for the Western Front, is captured by the Germans. He is taken for interrogation to Schloß Adler, a mountaintop fortress accessible only by cable car. A team of seven Allied Special Operations Executive commandos, led by British Major John Smith of the Grenadier Guards and U.S. Army Ranger Lieutenant Morris Schaffer, is briefed by Colonel Turner and Vice Admiral Rolland of MI6. Disguised as Wehrmacht mountain troops, they are to parachute into the German Alps, enter the castle, and rescue Carnaby before the Germans can interrogate him. After their transport plane drops them off, Smith secretly meets with agent Mary Ellison, with whom he is in a relationship, and his contact Heidi Schmidt. Heidi has arranged for Mary, posing as her cousin Maria, to work temporarily at the castle so the commandos can gain access.
The film involved some of the top filmmakers of the day and is considered a classic. Hollywood stuntman Yakima Canutt was the second unit director and shot most of the action scenes; British stuntman Alf Joint doubled for Burton in many sequences, including the fight on top of the cable car; award-winning conductor and composer Ron Goodwin wrote the film score; and future Oscar-nominee Arthur Ibbetson worked on the cinematography.

The Great Gatsby (2013) Movie Review: Eclectic Energy or a Busted Flush?
Roll out the red carpet and tighten your bow ties, ladies and gentlemen, because Paul and Samir are about to make cinematic history. Okay, not really, but they are planning to live stream their review of "The Great Gatsby," the 2013 version that may or may not be better than the 1974 film—which Paul has declared as the equivalent of stepping on a cold cat turd, in the dark, whilst having your home robbed.
Are you ready for the most anticipated evening of your week? A two-hour breakdown of a two-hour movie, complete with side rants and inside jokes that only Samir understands. But hey, that's what you signed up for, right? Intellectual commentary with just a hint of "Wait, what did he just say?".
Now, if you'll excuse us, we need to go prepare our livers and our funny bones for what promises to be an evening of cinematic discussion that will be unforgettable—for better or worse. Cheers!

🎬 The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) Movie Review
Join the Eleventy8 team as we enthusiastically discuss the 1977 James Bond movie… The Spy Who Loved Me.
Naaaaah, just kidding, we begrudgingly talk about this awful film. Samir has some amazingly interesting facts about the actors, so many in fact he couldn't help himself interrupting Paul doing the intro, and Justin's final score might make you rock, repeatedly, back and forth in your seat.
The Spy Who Loved Me is a 1977 spy film, the tenth in the James Bond series, produced by Eon Productions. It is the third to star Roger Moore as the fictional secret agent James Bond. The film co-stars Barbara Bach and Curt Jürgens and was directed by Lewis Gilbert. The screenplay was by Christopher Wood and Richard Maibaum, with an uncredited rewrite by Tom Mankiewicz.
The film takes its title from Ian Fleming's 1962 novel The Spy Who Loved Me, the tenth book in the James Bond series, though it does not contain any elements of the novel's plot. The storyline involves a reclusive megalomaniac named Karl Stromberg, who plans to destroy the world and create a new civilisation under the sea. Bond teams up with a Soviet agent, Anya Amasova, to stop the plans, all while being hunted by Stromberg’s powerful henchman, Jaws.
It was shot on location in Egypt (Cairo and Luxor) and Italy (Costa Smeralda, Sardinia), with underwater scenes filmed at the Bahamas (Nassau), and a new soundstage built at Pinewood Studios for a massive set which depicted the interior of a supertanker. The Spy Who Loved Me was well received by critics, who saw the film as a return to form for the franchise and praised Moore's performance. Moore himself called the film his personal favourite of his tenure as Bond. The soundtrack composed by Marvin Hamlisch also met with success. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards amid many other nominations and novelised in 1977 by Christopher Wood as James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me.

🎬 Willy's Wonderland (2021) Movie Review
Paul of Eleventy8 goes it alone on this movie review of Willy's Wonderland. A bold adventure into solo reviews, one that could end in either disaster or a future YouTube career!
Paul was experimenting with a different microphone and recording directly to an iPhone, so if the sound seems a little _muddy_, sorry about that.
Join Paul on his thoughts and score of Willy's Wonderland (2021).
Willy's Wonderland is a 2021 American action comedy horror film directed by Kevin Lewis from a screenplay by G. O. Parsons. The film stars Nicolas Cage, who also served as producer, along with Emily Tosta, Ric Reitz, Chris Warner, Kai Kadlec, Christian Del Grosso, Caylee Cowan, Terayle Hill, Jonathan Mercedes, David Sheftell and Beth Grant. It follows a quiet drifter who is tricked into cleaning up an abandoned family entertainment centre haunted by eight murderous animatronic characters.
The project was announced in October 2019, with screenwriter Parsons having conceived the idea based on his 2016 short film Wally's Wonderland, which was also the script's original name. It caught Cage's attention, who agreed to participate as both an actor and a producer. Lewis was hired as director in December 2019 while the cast joined in February 2020. Prior to its release, the film received a small cult following due to sharing its premise with the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise.
Willy's Wonderland was originally set for a worldwide theatrical release on October 30, 2020, but was postponed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, it was released through video on demand, with a simultaneous limited theatrical release in the United States, on February 12, 2021 by Screen Media Films. The film received mixed reviews from critics.

🎬 Kevin Smith's Clerks Trilogy - A Retrospective Chat #eleventy8
Kevin Smith had quite a unique path to film making. He co-produced, directed and wrote the first Clerks movie, which helped him come prominence.
Clerks is a 1994 American black-and-white buddy comedy film written and directed by Kevin Smith (in his feature directorial debut), produced and edited by Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier, and starring Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Marilyn Ghigliotti, Lisa Spoonhauer, Jason Mewes, Smith, and Mosier. It presents a day in the lives of store clerks Dante Hicks (O'Halloran) and Randal Graves (Anderson) as well as their acquaintances. It is the first of Smith's View Askewniverse films, and introduces several recurring characters, notably Jay and Silent Bob (Mewes and Smith respectively).
Clerks II is a 2006 American comedy film written and directed by Kevin Smith, the sequel to his 1994 film Clerks, and his sixth feature film to be set in the View Askewniverse. The film stars Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Rosario Dawson, Trevor Fehrman, Jennifer Schwalbach Smith, Jason Mewes, and Smith, and picks up with the original characters from Clerks: Dante Hicks, Randal Graves and Jay and Silent Bob ten years after the events of the first film. Unlike the first film, which was shot in black-and-white, this film was shot in color.
Clerks III is a 2022 American comedy-drama film written, produced, directed, and edited by Kevin Smith and stars Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Trevor Fehrman, Austin Zajur, Jason Mewes, Rosario Dawson, and Smith. It serves as a standalone sequel to the 1994 and 2006 Clerks films, and is the ninth overall feature film set in the View Askewniverse. In the film, Randal Graves, after surviving a massive heart attack, enlists his friends and fellow clerks Dante Hicks, Elias Grover, and Jay and Silent Bob to make a movie about their lives at the Quick Stop Convenience store that started it all.

Chaplin (1992) Movie Review: Downey Jr. Brillance or Standard Biopic?
Prepare yourself for a cinematic exploration like no other, as Paul and Samir dive headfirst into the world of "Chaplin" (1992), a film that has left one host completely clueless and the other with vague memories shrouded in the mists of time.
Now, as for their review of "Chaplin", what could be more appropriate for this iconic film than the tandem of Paul, the uninformed novice, and Samir, the forgetful veteran? Their perspectives on Robert Downey Jr.'s mesmerising portrayal of Charlie Chaplin promise to be as clear and focused as a Monet painting viewed through a foggy window.
Together, Paul and Samir's exploration of "Chaplin" will be a rollercoaster of intoxication and corny humour, a blend of dull insights and not-so-sharp punchlines. It's a live stream for those who appreciate a barrel full of chickens.
Their review might not make you see "Chaplin" in a new light, but it's sure to entertain, bemuse, and leave you questioning your taste in YouTube channels. Just remember, you've been warned, and the "like" and "subscribe" buttons are purely optional!

American Gangster (2007) Movie Review: Intelligent Gangster Movie or Flawed Hero Worship?
Join Paul and Samir... again, for their ponderings on Ridley Scott's American Gangster (2007).
Ridley Scott is one of the most acclaimed directors of our time. He's made some of the most iconic films of the past few decades, including Blade Runner, Alien, and Gladiator. But he's also made some flops, like Prometheus and Exodus: Gods and Kings.
So which Ridley Scott are we getting with American Gangster? The intelligent and visionary director who crafts complex and morally ambiguous characters? Or the hack who makes glossy but soulless blockbusters?
Join us to find out.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) Movie Trailer
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is a 1966 Italian epic spaghetti Western film directed by Sergio Leone and starring Clint Eastwood as "the Good", Lee Van Cleef as "the Bad", and Eli Wallach as "the Ugly". Its screenplay was written by Age & Scarpelli, Luciano Vincenzoni, and Leone (with additional screenplay material and dialogue provided by an uncredited Sergio Donati), based on a story by Vincenzoni and Leone. Director of photography Tonino Delli Colli was responsible for the film's sweeping widescreen cinematography, and Ennio Morricone composed the film's score, including its main theme. It is an Italian-led production with co-producers in Spain, West Germany, and the United States. Most of the filming took place in Spain.
The film is known for Leone's use of long shots and close-up cinematography, as well as his distinctive use of violence, tension, and highly stylised gunfights. The plot revolves around three gunslingers competing to find a fortune in a buried cache of Confederate gold amid the violent chaos of the American Civil War (specifically the New Mexico Campaign in 1862), while participating in many battles, confrontations, and duels along the way. The film was the third collaboration between Leone and Clint Eastwood, and the second with Lee Van Cleef.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly was marketed as the third and final installment in the Dollars Trilogy, following A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More. The film was a financial success, grossing over $25 million at the box office, and is credited with having catapulted Eastwood into stardom. Due to general disapproval of the spaghetti Western genre at the time, critical reception of the film following its release was mixed, but it gained critical acclaim in later years, becoming known as the "definitive spaghetti Western".

Cheers to "From Hell" and the questionable decisions Paul and Samir make in the name of film criticism! Who needs sober analysis when you can have drunken ramblings and cringe-worthy jokes?

The Green Knight (2021) Movie Review: Spellbindingly Beautiful or Overly Cryptic?
In the vast, unpredictable universe of YouTube livestreams, few stand out for their earnest charm and unapologetic ignorance as the sessions by Paul and Samir. This week, they're diving deep into the fantastical realms of 'The Green Knight', a 2021 cinematic experience they both have resolutely refused to watch. It's not every day you get a review from two individuals so fresh to the subject they have quite literally no idea what they're talking about.
If you're expecting a linear or logical progression of thoughts, abandon hope now. These two bounce off each other like pinballs in an arcade. It's not uncommon for them to veer wildly off-topic, diving into discussions about their personal lives, misadventures, or even debating the sustainability of chainmail. Samir might even pause the banter to drop another groan-worthy joke, perhaps inquiring if the Green Knight gets a discount at the local gardening store.

🎬 Die Hard (1988), Bruce Willis, Movie Review
It's Christmas, so what better reason to drag out Die Hard, a movie that everyone on the planet must have seen by now!
Watch, Paul, Justin & Samir talk about this action classic, starring up and coming actor (at the time), Bruce Willis.
Die Hard is a 1988 American action film directed by John McTiernan and written by Jeb Stuart and Steven E. de Souza. It is based on the 1979 novel Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp, and it stars Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman, Alexander Godunov, and Bonnie Bedelia. Die Hard follows New York City police detective John McClane (Willis) who is caught up in a terrorist takeover of a Los Angeles skyscraper while visiting his estranged wife. Reginald VelJohnson, William Atherton, Paul Gleason, and Hart Bochner feature in supporting roles.
Stuart was hired by 20th Century Fox to adapt Thorp's novel into a screenplay in 1987. His finished draft was greenlit immediately by Fox, who were eager for a summer blockbuster the following year. The role of McClane was turned down by a host of the decade's most popular actors, including Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. Known mainly for work on television, Willis was paid $5 million for his involvement, placing him among Hollywood's highest-paid actors. The deal was seen as a poor investment by industry professionals and attracted significant controversy before its release. Filming took place between November 1987 and March 1988, on a $25 million–$35 million budget and almost entirely on location in and around Fox Plaza in Los Angeles.
Expectations for Die Hard were low; some marketing efforts omitted Willis's image, ostensibly because the marketing team determined that the setting was as important as McClane. Upon its release in July 1988, initial reviews were mixed: criticism focused on its violence, plot, and Willis's performance, while McTiernan's direction and Rickman's charismatic portrayal of the villain Hans Gruber were praised. Defying predictions, Die Hard grossed approximately $140 million, becoming the year's tenth-highest-grossing film and the highest-grossing action film. Receiving four Academy Award nominations, it elevated Willis to leading-man status and made Rickman a celebrity.
Die Hard has been critically re-evaluated and is now considered one of the greatest action films, and is also often named one of the best Christmas films. It revitalized the action genre, largely due to its depiction of McClane as a vulnerable and fallible protagonist, in contrast to the muscle-bound and invincible heroes of other films of the period. Retrospective commentators also identified and analyzed its thematic concerns, including vengeance, masculinity, gender roles, and American anxieties over foreign influences. The film produced a host of imitators; the term "Die Hard" became a shorthand for plots featuring overwhelming odds in a restricted environment, such as "Die Hard on a bus". It created a franchise comprising the sequels Die Hard 2 (1990), Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995), Live Free or Die Hard (2007), and A Good Day to Die Hard (2013), plus video games, comics, and other merchandise. Deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress, Die Hard was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry in 2017.

The Night of the Generals (1967) Movie Review: Dull, & Slow, Tense & Thrilling?
In the annals of cinematic history, few films have dared to be as rivetingly monotonous as "The Night of the Generals." This epic saga, as seen through the eyes of our esteemed viewer, Samir, is a thrilling concoction of uniformed men, shadowy rooms, and conversations so mind-numbingly dull, even the most seasoned film aficionado will struggle to stay awake.
Paul should prepare himself to embark on a journey that could only be described as the lovechild of a military strategy session and a second-rate Agatha Christie novel. You'll be treated to a cast of characters so one-dimensional, they'd give a cardboard cutout a run for its money. The Generals, in all their stoic glory, spend their night locked in a power struggle that'll have you begging for a commercial break.
But wait, there's more! "The Night of the Generals" is a true masterclass in outdated gender roles and stereotypes, as the film's women are relegated to the sidelines, serving only as plot devices. Grab your popcorn and brace yourself for a hefty dose of 20th-century chauvinism.
So, Paul and Samir, prepare to embark on this cinematic adventure, which can best be described as a visual lullaby. A film so utterly uneventful, it'll leave you questioning the very nature of time and your place within it. If you ever thought watching paint dry was a dull affair, "The Night of the Generals" is here to prove you wrong.

🎬 A Fistful of Dollars (1964) Movie Review
Totally different genre this time around! Eleventy8 reviews a Fistful of Dollars, the Spaghetti Western that made Clint Eastwood a Hollywood heavyweight.
The audio quality on this recording is not great. Justin and Paul were on the road, and we did the best we could. Still learning, and Paul knows what went wrong, so it won't happen again.
A Fistful of Dollars (Italian: Per un pugno di dollari, lit. 'For a Fistful of Dollars' titled on-screen as Fistful of Dollars) is a 1964 Spaghetti Western film directed by Sergio Leone and starring Clint Eastwood in his first leading role, alongside John Wells, Marianne Koch, W. Lukschy, S. Rupp, Jose Calvo, Antonio Prieto, and Joe Egger. The film, an international co-production between Italy, West Germany, and Spain, was filmed on a low budget (reported to be $200,000), and Eastwood was paid $15,000 for his role.
Released in Italy in 1964 and then in the United States in 1967, it initiated the popularity of the Spaghetti Western genre. It was followed by For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, also starring Eastwood. Collectively, the films are known as the "Dollars Trilogy", or the "Man with No Name Trilogy" after the United Artists publicity campaign referred to Eastwood's character in all three films as the "Man with No Name". All three films were later released in sequence in the United States in 1967, catapulting Eastwood into stardom. The film has been identified as an unofficial remake of the Akira Kurosawa film Yojimbo (1961), which resulted in a successful lawsuit by Toho, Yojimbo's production company.
As few Spaghetti Westerns had yet been released in the United States, many of the European cast and crew took on American-sounding stage names. These included Leone himself ("Bob Robertson"), Gian Maria Volonté ("Johnny Wels"), and composer Ennio Morricone ("Dan Savio"). A Fistful of Dollars was shot in Spain, mostly near Hoyo de Manzanares close to Madrid, but also (like its two sequels) in the Tabernas Desert and in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, both in the province of Almería.
