The common denominator for them was money. Cuba (without Castro) was worth a lot of money to them. The anti-Castro Cuban refugees had more altruistic motives - among which included a return to their homeland and a free Cuba. Combine all these interests and you have a tempest in a teapot.

It also worked with the CIA to smuggle heroin and opium from the Golden Triangle, through France, Italy, and Sicily, into the final stopping-off point in Cuba before reaching the ultimate destination - the inner cities of the United States. In other words, Cuba became a key part of the French Connection, earning the CIA millions to finance its covert ops around the globe. Cuba was also lucrative to American big business - the legitimate kind - AND the organized crime syndicate - the illegitimate kind. In sum, Cuba was worth billions to the United States. As long as it controlled the government in Cuba, there was a lot of money to be made. If something (or someone) ever came along that threatened these money spigots, there would be hell to pay. In a clash between opposing worldviews, JFK represented the biggest threat to the American Empire that its gangsters of war had ever encountered. Not only was he an obstacle to the objectives of their national security apparatus (and their money spigots), he was an over-sexed, drugged-up paramour with treasonous intentions and cowardly tendencies. Somebody had to do the hard, but patriotic thing and remove this cancer from the Oval Office before his worldview prevailed. This was too important to leave to the American people. In a Cold War setting, he had to be dealt with like an enemy combatant would be dealt with, by force. Proof also that Eisenhower's warning was disingenuous at best. Pity the poor fool that ever tries to tame this tiger. There are about 50-60 people who care very much about profitability and very little about morality who are keeping score. These people used to be positioned exclusively in the private sector. However, these Power Elites now have some of their key people ensconced in the highest public offices in Washington. They are buttons waiting to be pushed.
