A former Alberta surgeon blasted the Alberta government on its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Dennis Modry, who is the pioneer of open heart surgery in Alberta and who served on many hospital committees, explains to BCN's Hal Roberts in this exclusive interview.

Many companies and government agencies are requiring staff to receive the COVID vaccine as a condition of employment. While Alberta government agencies have given staff until the end of October to become compliant, one Edmonton organization has already begun releasing un-vaccinated staff with very little notice to receive both doses. Jeannette Rocher interviewed one of those employees, Lisa Noble who was informed on September 17 that she would have to be fully vaccinated by September 24 (one week later) or lose her job. We reached out to the non-profit organization she worked for to understand their side of the story, however they have not responded to our multiple requests. A recent report by the Alberta Nonprofit Network says that nonprofit groups have faced massive struggles due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The data was collected from 500 nonprofits around Alberta. The results revealed that mental health has been a huge problem in these organizations.

Kinetic Indoor Cycle and Fitness has been shut down since last year due to government restrictions on gyms. As Micah Quinn reports, the fitness centre has started renting out gym equipment to their clients in an effort to help encourage members to stay healthy and keep up with their mental health.

Manitobans are unhappy with a statement from Chief Medical Health Officer Brent Roussin who said that COVID-19 restrictions do not apply to any government employees. The City of Winnipeg has been allowing its employees to use gyms and fitness centres at its facilities amid code red restrictions due to an exemption for government health orders, while private gyms continue to struggle.
