This is a documentary movie uncovering the difficult and time consuming process of making traditional expanded dugout canoe using mostly traditional hand tools and techniques.

Building stone/granite foundation for our wood workshop with the help of our friends. The ground/base layer was done by 7 men in one day from 9AM - 6PM. From digging out the trenches down to 1.5 meters deep (below freezing level). Then filling them with larger stones at the bottom and then layer with silica sand, and then another layer of stones, sand and water - to compress the sand and fill all the gaps between the stones until reaching the ground level. The top layer was masoned from split recycled stones (from an abandoned building) using traditional lime and rye flour mortar.

This is an instructional documentary about the traditional french timber framing. Carpentry class held in Estonia and organized by Vanaajamaja (vanaajamaja.ee/en) - focusing on the thousands of years old scribing technique using plumb bob. The main key before scribing irregular (hewn or twisted) timbers is to mark the vertical and horizontal centers by level on the both end of the log and snap the lines - as all the scribing is done using the center lines (axis) instead of the square rule when the sides of the timbers are being used as reference. This technique can be used also on planed or sawn timbers. All the frame was build in 5 days by the experienced carpenters and non experienced students using only hand tools. Hands not machines!
