While I am still waiting for a response from the office of Attorney General Merrick Garland, I am sending a personal message of our support and appreciation to Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri for his courageous stand this week in calling for Merrick Garland’s resignation. Amid the outrage of his attempts to silence free speech, AG Garland has yet to apologize to America for his attempts to weaponize the Department of Justice in calling upon the FBI to counteract against parents exhibiting their right of speech at school board meetings. Parents being labeled “domestic terrorists” for speaking out about the indoctrination of their children in American classrooms is a right the National School Board Association and the Attorney General cannot take away from us. Questions have arisen on how explicit materials get approved for inclusion in school district libraries in the first place. Laurie, in her position as a member of the Tennessee Textbook and Instructional Materials Quality Commission, was called upon this week by a concerned parent whose elementary school student had checked out a book, Me and Earl and The Dying Girl, from her school’s library. She had accessed the book from a section of the library that is "restricted," requiring parental permission. The child obtained parental approval and the parent reviewed the book and subsequently sent pictures of the egregious content. Laurie noted in her assessment: “This book is not only inappropriate for any grade, but it is also antisemitic in its portrayal of a Jewish teenager who is a sexual deviant and morally bankrupt. The language and the sexually explicit adult situations presented in the storyline are most assuredly not age-appropriate for elementary-age students. I have contacted the Assistant Director of Schools in Cumberland County and was advised that she had received no complaints about the book. She also stated that there is a process for parents to request books to be removed from the library. This week I want to bring to the PJTN family an example of what our campaign “Taking Back America’s Children” looks like in real life as it plays out at the grassroots level. I am applauding Hudson, Ohio Mayor Craig Shubert who made national headlines this week for delivering a bold ultimatum to the members of his city’s Board of Education, telling them to either resign or face potential criminal charges over what he described as “child pornography” in a high school textbook assignment. The high school seniors at Hudson High were given writing assignments from the controversial book 642 Things to Write About as part of a senior-level course for college credit. Among the choice to write about were recreating pornographic experiences, or graphically taking on the role of a brutal serial killer—and worse on the side of compromising adult scenarios. Noted Mayor Shubert in addressing the school board, "It has come to my attention that your educators are distributing what is essentially child porno in the classroom. I’ve spoken to the judge this evening and you can either resign or face criminal charges.” The local paper received complaints and excerpts from a mother whose daughter received the book and the assignment. Noted the principal, “We did not exercise due diligence when we reviewed this resource and as a result, we overlooked the content that was not appropriate for our high school audience. We will issue a sincere apology to parents. The school is now in the process of collecting the assigned book, assuring better oversight in the future." My point? The power of the pushback from parents and concerned patriots, such as this mayor who dared to speak out. We must demand transparency in the instructional materials being dispensed to our children—much of it reflecting information and values that are not reflective of our values. The importance of parents being connected, educated and aware at the grassroots level can’t be over-emphasized! We must speak up and speak out. This hatred for Jewish people around the globe has existed for many millennia, and differs from other forms of bigotry in its intensity and persistence. Throughout history, Antisemitism has changed its shape to dress Jews as the most detestable, inhuman group in society. Today there are record-high attacks on Jewish people around the world, and we have antisemitism to blame. It must be identified and CONDEMNED, in whatever form it takes. While all forms of racism and discrimination need to be dismantled and destroyed, Antisemitism has as of late been lumped in with these other forms of racism, or flat out denied all together.
