Maker Tales

It was well overdue for me to make a simple bedside table no matter what type of wood I was using as I have been using a cardboard box for the past 6 months. So here it is version 1 of the bedside table. It’s made out of layed OSB with a thin little varnish. I’m planning on making a version 2 in a little while but for now i’m really happy with the out some. It fits its purpose nicely and beats the old cardboard box I had hands down. Well, here it is my first laser cut, rope chair. It’s great to have fun with new materials as I have never worked with cord and cloth before. I did have my doubts about the OBS but it pulled through yet again. On top of all that this whole build is held solely by tension and friction, not a screw, nail or drop of glue in sight. It turned out great for my first attempt. I definitely have a few improvements to make but in the future, the main difference I think will be the type of wood used. This week we got to make the first bit of furniture for the flat. It turned out great! It was a little tight but at the end, it all fitted in nicely and does not move one bit. I really do think I need to create that magnet system to hide it all away as it does make the bathroom look a little busy. I had to get the kitchen in order so I made this draw storage. It came out looking much better than I expected. It even has a chopstick section! I know it’s a short video but this is due to a huge project that is in the works currently. So here’s how to make so super fancy laser cut playing cards. This was definitely an interesting project as I had to not only learn a new material and a way of etching it but I needed to learn how to use the vision control system to make these double-sided cards. I’m really happy with the outcome! I could even see really wanting to get a hold of these if I saw them elsewhere. Next on the list is to build a lovely box for these. Now that the first pegboard is cut and up it's time to make the pegs that are going to be used with it. As this is not your average pegboard I'm having to make custom pegs to fit my needs. Super happy this week to get to start to improve the workshop!! I can't some 6mm MDF which I'm turning into custom-built laser cut peg board! Well, I thought this week we would use betty for she is intended for... A cut the biggest table I can fit on her laser cutting bed. In total just over 3010mm A PRETTY BIG! table. I also did a fancy de focused cut / etch in the centre of the table to give it some class... I'm sorry that I was not able to show it in situ but unfortunately the varnish is still curing... That's right... Today we had a 4 tonne laser delivered! So in a nut shell the beast is here! I have never seen boxes this size in my life. Plus I've never had a delivery that last's over 5 hours...
